okay my computer runs on DRam and i've found some going cheap, only it says it's from a HP machine, though mine is dell. I can't really see why it wouldn't work but i just want to make sure.

Make sure it's EXACTLY right. Same amount of pins and numbers (MB doesn't really matter except in some machines) and everything. And check to make sure what your PC can handle. Otherwise you could short circuit/fry your board, or it just flat out won't work.

Pin count and speed are the important points.

If you bought a prepacked computer, go to the manufacturer and they almost always have RAM lookup methods to give you the information you need.

If you custom built it (which I doubt since you asked this question), then you would have to go to the motherboard manufacturer's website.
