TNA WRESTLING MOVES TO PRIMETIME ON SPIKE TV
Moves To Thursdays at 9 PM Starting April 13

New York, NY, February 6, 2006 – Spike TV has announced that Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Wrestling will move to a weeknight primetime slot starting this April. Premieres of TNA: iMPACT! Wrestling will move to Thursdays at 9:00 PM, ET/PT, starting April 13, and will encore in its current Saturday night timeslot.

“TNA Wrestling has been delivering strong ratings for Spike and is continually growing its audience,” says Kevin Kay, General Manager of Spike TV. “Wrestling fans have been looking for an alternative and have found it in TNA’s brand of high-flying and action-packed entertainment.”

Since launching in October 2005, TNA: iMPACT! Saturday telecasts have averaged a .8 / 724,000 HH rating, with .8 / 397,000 in Men 18-49 and a .8 / 202,000 in M 18-34 with an average audience of 957,000. Compared to YAGO, TNA Wrestling is +56% in HH, +103% in M 18-49 and +72% in average audience. On Saturday, January 28 TNA scored some of its highest ratings with a 1.1/970,000 HH rating with a 1.0/518,000 in M 18-49 and 1.0/252,000 in M 18-34 and an average audience of 1.3 million viewers.

“The move to prime time on Spike is the most significant event in TNA Wrestling’s short history,” said Dixie Carter, president of TNA Wrestling. “I am very proud of our entire team and all their hard work in achieving this milestone. Spike has been a fantastic partner, and we have accomplished so much together in just four months. We look forward to continuing to work with them to grow the TNA brand during this exciting time.”

The new wrestling alternative, “TNA: iMPACT!” delivers a distinct brand of high-risk, athletic entertainment. TNA’s roster includes new, fresh talent like AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels, Samoa Joe, Monty Brown and recognizable stars such as Sting, Christian Cage, Jeff Jarrett, Team 3D, and others. TNA features the innovative six-sided ring and the high-flying “X Division,” as well as concept matches such as “Ultimate X,” “King of the Mountain,” and “Six Sides of Steel.”

Yup, even though TNA has it's fair share of errors, I havent been this excited about wrestling since WCW died. Having WWE as the only mainstream primetime company sucked ass.

I hope TNA continues to improve, and hopefully by next year they'll get a second hour.

YES!!!

With TNA finally becoming competition, WWE will start to improve their programmes to make sure TNA don't catch up.

No matter what night from M-Thurs they put Impact on, there will always be the problem of other shows. Especially Tues and Wednesdays with American Idol. The people who watch TNA will watch TNA I guess.

FUCK! They should consider at 8. My name is Earl and The O.C are on at 9. Two shows that are VERY highly rated. I only have 2 VCR's. Now I have to tape two things and watch one? Those are like the only three shows I watch on TV.

But Survivor, which is on at eight, draws higher ratings than either of them.

OC should be done by April. So now you can worry about one less show.

Earl, Office and the OC will be over for the season a few weeks after Impact starts. They'll at least have time to build a fanbase over the summer.

Even though I don't watch TNA (mainly because of UK's poor coverage), I sincerely hope they do well.

IMO, the peak of wrestling was when WWE and WCW were competing at a high level, and hopefully TNA can get close.

Not only good news for TNA, good news for wrestling as a whole.

Hopefully WWE will realise that competition is coming and Vince will get the motivation to start improving his product.

This is very good news for TNA. They don't need to go head-to-head with RAW or SmackDown just yet. Once the product improves to the level of WWE, put it on Monday Nights.....

It'll be interesting to see if/how WWE treats the whole situation. I'm sure more viewers will watch since it'll be on Thursdays and it'll mean competition in a primetime slot. I'm just wondering if it'll be an hour, hour and a half, or two hour show? Making Impact into a two-hour show would kick ass. Especially since they barely have time to promote alot of different angles with just an hour show.

A two-hour Impact would be a very good thing. The X Division workers would certainly benefit from longer-form matches, like the WCW cruisers.

Agreed. X-Division and tag division would both greatly benefit from a 2-hour show. That beats seeing X-Division guys having too many tag matches. That's one reason why Impact sucks. They don't get to showcase their X-Division properly. And the tag division would be better as well with more time allowed. They don't get to develop many new teams. A 2-hour Impact would definetely be a step in the right direction[along with getting the NWA belt off of Jarrett].

That's good to hear, now all we need is a 2 hour show, why are spike TV so reluctant to give TNA 2 hours?

They need to change the name of the show. Impact! sounds so generic. I have seriously seen 1000 promotions call their TV shows "Impact". IWA-PR and TWA are 2 that shoot to my mind (however, how many people watched IWA-PR or TWA when they were on TV?). I just hate generics (except on my prescriptions *rimshot*)

The exact same thing as I first thought. If this doesn't put the willies up Vince's ass then I don't know what else would....

No, but their steady progress in the last 18 months does make them potential competition. Anyone who has such a great marketshare in any industry is always aware of up-and-comers and no doubt Vince will be no different.

Just because TNA has a primetime slot doesn't mean they're competition yet.

They're competition by default. You see, they're a wrestling program.

Now, they're not major competition and probably won't be for a while. But anyone who says they should go up against WWE right now is retarded, and too much a TNA fanboy to understand why this is bad business until they are a more potent threat.

Before TNA gets a head-to-head spot against WWE and another hour, they're going to need to move out of the Impact Zone and start doing live big arena shows. They also need to take the NWA Title off of Jeff fucking Jarrett.

Xero

I don't think they'll start bi-weekly touring for at least 2-3 years. My guess would be that the first TNA PPV outside of the Impact Zone will be in the latter part of this year, though.
