Angle is, well, Angle. Orton is a rising heel, will probably be the company's biggest heel sometime in the future. He's a good wrestler and always does good against guys with extremely good skills (Angle, Benoit). He had an awesome match with Taker at last year's Mania, and we all know Angle is better in ring wise than Taker by a considerable amount.
To me, this is 10x better than JBL/Cena and will be better than Trips/Batista.
And I'm not accusing anyone specifically, but (putting the whole Eddie thing aside), why does everyone seem to hate Orton at TPWW? He was one of my favorite's throughout his whole WWE career except for his face days...

That's a very sad statement, when he can't make it though a promo without stuttering a thousand times...

Randy Orton is hated because he has been shoved down our throats like a a supermodel's fingers while she is on her knees heaving into a toilet.
Randy Orton has never had a good match on his own in WWE. He was only a "great heel" because he was in (and carried by) a HEEL stable with Triple H and Ric Flair (2 of the greatest heels of all time). Randy Orton did get screwed out of his first World Title run, but he wasn't ready for it. When they finally put him in a sink or swim situation his ass sank. The man is also well documented for being a immature prick backstage. I have yet to see one thing about Randy Orton that makes me want to actually care about his character. Yes, you can use the "WWE Writers" Card but he still holds some of the blame as to why he SUCKS. His promos are inconsistent, his matches are inconsistent, and his reactions are inconsistent. I don't know how anybody can say Randy Orton is charismatic, talented in the ring, or anything of that sort. Anybody can have an obnoxious smirk, look good in the ring when facing Mick Foley's, Chris Benoits, Triple Hs, and now Rey Mysterios, and Kurt Angles. The only reasons Randy Orton has been pushed is because he is a 3rd generation superstar and Vince has been looking for a quick fix to fill in the holes left by The Rock, Stone Cold, etc. The only thing "great" about Randy Orton is his ability to make me wanna annhilate my television with a sledgehammer and pity all the wrestlers who have been forced to carry that overrated piece of shit over the past few years.
Kane Knight
02-12-2006, 12:25 AM
To an extent I disagree. I think Orton could be big if they let him evolve as a natural heel, instead of forcefeeding us the bullshit.
He's got quite the level of natural charisma, but people are legitimately against him for being boring and overdone. IT's another case of the WWE pushing someone regardless of hwo the fans feel.
James Steele

Kane Knight, since when does a smirk = natural charisma?

James Steele

That is all Randy Orton has, in my opinion. His promos and such are utter shit. The only thing Randy Orton can do effectively on a consistent basis is smirk.
McLegend
02-12-2006, 12:43 AM
Also Randy is what 24 or 25 do you expect him to be carrying the guys he has been in the ring with? Especillay since most of them are good... very good actaully.
Even the great wrestlers were carried at one time. Orton has held his own and even had a decent match against Orlando Jordan. So to hate a young wrestler just because he been helped or some cases carried by great wrestlers doesn't make sense to me really.
James Steele
02-12-2006, 12:44 AM
It has nothing to do with his age. He is doesn't have the talent needed to be in the main event. He doesn't have the talent to be the second coming of Christ some people make him out to be. I just feel that overall he is overrated to the point of hatred.
McLegend
02-12-2006, 12:49 AM
I am saying he will get better with age. You are saying he gets carried by people which is true, but he is 24 or 25 so of course he is going to get carried when he goes up against guys who have been wrestling in the big time for years.
Orton does have enough talent to be in the main event, and could be in the main event right now. Sucks that he has to this Guerreo angle, but thats the way it goes I suppose.
James Steele
02-12-2006, 12:54 AM
There are people younger and around the same age as Randy Orton who are far superior to Randy Orton, but they are stuck in midcard hell.

Carlito (who I also think is overrated, but has improved a lot), Paul Burchill, Rene Dupree, Brian Kendrick, Sylvan Grenier, Chris Masters (Yes, I think he is better than Randy Orton), Paul London, Johnny Nitro, and Joey Mercury just to name a few.

Everytime I turn on Smackdown, Orton has a great match. His promos has greatly improved. He's one of the best bumpers that company has got right now. Which I think is going to hurt his career down the line. He can wrestle any style and mixes in a lot of different moves. However, they are doing a terrible job with booking him. He can't seem to gain any momentum.

SmackDown!'s main event scene is in turmoil at the moment. I was just about to make a new topic about it, but I'll just post it here.
Does Kurt Angle vs. Randy Orton excite anyone to the point where they MUST see that match? Does Angle vs. Mysterio even do that? WrestleMania is traditonally crowded to the point where main eventers don't even get matches some years. It seems to be the WWE's thing to crowd some of their top guys into multi-man matches to get them on the card (the Money in the Bank Ladder Match for example). I think the WWE should just admit to themselves that they don't have a pairing on SmackDown! (or RAW for that matter) that is really a hot program at the moment.
Traditionally Specialty Matches are used as the main events of smaller PPVs, but I think they should just swallow their pride, and this year have WrestleMania Headlined by some kind of gimmick match.
One match which has never been produced by SmackDown! is the Elimination Chamber. Sure, RAW had one a few months ago, but SmackDown! can use the billing it is a SD! first. The WWE has used the Hell in a Cell multiple times a year, and while some claim that match has been whored out, I think its devalued image in the fans' eyes is more attributed to the generic structure of the matches, and the fact that the feuds leading into them have been run dry prior to the HIAC.
So at No Way Out, you just have Booker T get himself disqualified against Chris Benoit, have Booker T help Randy Orton beat Mysterio and have Angle retain against The Undertaker when Orton costs the Dead Man the match.
Angle vs. Orton is contested by The Undertaker, who claims he didn't lose cleanly. Mysterio also says that the WM Main Event is tainted, and sticks his name into it. Booker T is brought in because he's WWE United States Champion (even though John Cena won a tournament last year, you could argue that the US Champion challenged) and Benoit beat Booker T, albeit by disqualification at No Way Out.
Kurt Angle vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Chris Benoit vs. The Undertaker vs. Randy Orton vs. Booker T looks much better to me than Kurt Angle vs. Randy Orton, and even better than Kurt Angle vs. Rey Mysterio.

Renne Dupree, Sylvan Grenier, and Chris Master WTF?
Well first off I love MNM but there a tag team so they are not supposed to be in the main event. Burchill haven't seen nearly enough of him to say how good he is. Just seen cilps from him on the internet and times he jobbed to Lashley. Spanky and London are good I love them also, but I could never see them in the main event due to their size. Sure if WWE was ROH London and Spanky would be main eventing Wrestlemania.
Orton has had the good matches against everyone. Orton also has a look. Yes of course a reason he has gotten pushed is because he is good looking, but see its professional wrestling you need to have more then skill. Orton just might be the total package wheather you like it or not.
Also about Master he will be a World Champion probably in the distant future, and I would hardly say he is stuck in the midcard.

I think Orton is good, but I don't think he should headline WrestleMania this year. One of the biggest problems with the WWE is that they seem to push a guy, give him the belt, then next year he's back in the mid-card.
The last time WrestleMania was headlined by people that had previously been in a WrestleMania main event was 2001. The WWE has been trying to re-capture the elements of Austin vs. The Rock for a long time now, and one common arguement has been made that there will never be another Austin or another Rock. That's true, but I also think the consistency of their main event roles played a part in how fans perceived them. Nowadays, every year you have a guy living his dream by challenging for the World Title at WrestleMania. It's not too late for the WWE to give the shot to a guy who has been center-stage before.

Here's a scenerio:
Orton beats Rey at NWO and feuds with Angle up till Mania.
Rey goes in the Smackdown MITB match (or it could be interpromotional) and wins it.
Rey uses it on Orton or Angle and wins it that night.
