View Full Version : Mike "Judas" Awesome Retires
credit Keelan Balderson
On a recent "In This Corner" audio show interview with Mike Awesome,
Awesome confirmed he has infact retired from Pro Wrestling. He will
now be spending more time with his family and selling real estate.
Its interesting to note that he is very bitter towards Vince McMahon
and the lack of pay and royalties he received from the "One Night
Stand" PPV. Many argue his match stole the show.
He would happily work another ECW PPV if the money was right.

That sucks, he was so underused in WWE and WCW... he should have been a multiple time champ.

I hope he is at One Night Stand 2 and shoots on Vince.
Mike was exactly what his ring name said Awesome
he was a huge part of the last couple years of ECW even though he did jump to WCW
i've always liked him and always thought he was one of the best big men in the business

Mike wasn't even in ECW a full year.

Mike Awesome vs Masato Tanaka stole ONS. That was the best match of the show, and one of the best of the year.
He'd be a good guy for TNA. He's not going to fully retire... does anyone? He'll be back in Japan, in a year or so, all fat.
Mike wasn't even in ECW a full year.
How exactly was he a Judas? Try actually finding out the reason he left ECW for WCW.

Mike Awesome is great... I never got why big guys who can fly and kick ass never were or are allowed to get over in the big feds. I mean, WCW really pulled a "WWE" with him when he jumped ship -- "Fat Chick Thrilla?" ... I liked "That 70's Guy", it worked with the mullet. But really, he's one of those guys who needs no gimmick to get over.

I bet he would have went a lot further in WCW had he not lost the ECW title, under a WCW contract to a WWF(E) wrestler.

You never know. Maybe he turns out to be an acrobatic pirate. ;)

LOL, I thought that said "acoustic pirate" for a second there. Imagine him playing a guitar on his way to the ring...

BAH, I wish I had the chance to see more of Awesome, but I really never go out of my way to get Japanese stuff, so apart from ECW One Night Stand, the last I saw of him was when he left the WWE.

If you have a Suncoast (or comparable) video store near you, they should still have some old ECW videos. Any of his matches with Tanaka were excellent, and the match when he came out of the crowd to beat Taz and Tanaka for the ECW Title was also very good. You shouldn't have much trouble finding either of those.

Yeah, I know his shit with Tanaka was, well, awesome, as I've seen a number of those bouts. Those fuckers didn't care if it was a PPV, a weekly TV show, or a house show; if they were in that ring, they would tear the motherfucking house down and lay it all on the line.

No they don't..
After WWF bought ECW they own the rights to ALL the old ECW PPVs and haven't rereleased them.. Places like RF Video would be the spots to look..
p.s. I have ECW Heatwave 98 and their match did steel the show..

Which is really saying somehting, 'cause HW98 had a killer card.
Justin Credible vs. Jerry Lynn
Chris Candido vs. Lance Storm
Mike Awesome vs. Masato Tanaka
Rob Van Dam and Sabu vs. Hayabusa and Jinsei Shinzaki
Taz vs. Bam Bam Bigelow
The Sandman, Tommy Dreamer, and Spike Dudley vs. The Dudley Boyz (Bubba, D-Von, and Big Dick)
Possibly my favorite ECW show.

Well, remember, Lance Storm was retired, but he worked ONS. Ditto Tommy Dreamer.

Yeah, because I'm sure no other promotion in the world would give Mike Awesome a match.

One of the top 3 ECW PPV's of all time, easily..
RVD/Sabu vs. Hayabusa/Shinzaki should have been the match but Hayabusa was sloppy as hell..
:'(
