This has to be like the hardest game ever to get a copy of. Nobody around here seems to have it. Fucking ridiculouus.

Anyway, any of you played it or what?

The game has exploded in popularity since word started to spread. I got it pretty soon after it came out when they had tons of copies, now all of my friends are also having trouble getting it.

But, to answer your question, it is an awesome game and should not be missed. The soundtrack is pretty decent, some good songs on there, but missing some obvious ones.

It's basically one of those rhythm games, like Dance Dance Revolution, but you play the guitar. It's got 5 buttons on the frets, and you basically play along. They have 30 licensed tracks (re-done by their music team,) and 30 tracks by lesser-known bands, mostly their friends or the bands of people on the game's team.

It seems kind of lame when you first look at it, but once you get good at the game and start playing the more difficult songs (especially on Expert mode) it really does feel pretty realistic to playing the guitar.

Pretty sweet game, worth a look at the very least. I think a lot of Best Buys have the game on display still.

Only limited stocks though or something because they can't make enough.

Bumposity.

So I've been playing this for a good 2 weeks now. FUCKING AWESOME.

I'm pretty much a guitar noob, but I think I'm getting the hang of it pretty quickly. For those of you who have played it (especially the harder levels), how close would you say this comes to the real thing?

Silent
03-26-2006, 01:53 PM
The "realism" only goes so far since the 5 buttons/chords you are hitting are in the same place on the guitar. But, when you play some of those last songs on Expert, like "Bark at the Moon" and "Cowboys from Hell", you basically have to hit every note.

I guess what I'm saying is you won't walk away from the game and be able to play the real guitar, but if you already do, it might improve your technique.

I didn't find much of a comparison at all, myself. Then again, when I played it, I was trying it from the perspective of DDR without all the exercise. ;)

My friend commented on how fast I was losing, even though I can play a passable geetar.

Dunno when the sequel hits.

They have a lot of good songs, but I remember reading on gamespot that a bunch of people they were to contact for song licensing thought they were being pranked, so they couldn't get songs like Stairway to Heaven or anything by Van Halen.

Frequency ruled. I think I managed to get up to the last lot of songs before I became fed up of sucking at it so much :'(

Never got round to getting Amplitude, was it any good?

Jonster
04-04-2006, 06:36 PM
I managed to do all of Frequency, it felt like such an achievement, those later levels really made you work. I think I punched the air after finishing it.

Amplitude is more polished, and I prefer it (more fair scoring wise for a start), but the fact the level doesn't loop round like in Frequency annoys me (as in it runs down a road, and to go from far right to far left you have to press left 5 times and you can't see what the note is. It's impossible in that situation).
All the songs are available from the Normal level up, and there's an easy mode for Grandma's.

Jonster
04-04-2006, 06:37 PM
Found out there's a secret track in the Insane difficulty. I'll never see it as the game is actually harder than Frequency.

Disturbed316
04-06-2006, 11:45 AM
Right, the game came today and I've had a go on the tracks playable at the start and I don't really know how to say this but....

IT'S FUCKING AWESOME!

Considering I haven't played my guitar for about 8 years now, I was suprised how good my fingering on this was. Yeah, it's nowhere near like it is on a real guitar, but I've had no problems stretching my pinky all the way to the end fret buttons.

Still trying to used to the hammer-ons and pull offs during really fast sections, no doubt I'll nail them after lots of plays through.

So far th best score I've got is 61,000-something, hitting 128 consecutive notes and with a 98% total notes played. Just can't remember what song it was, probably the uber easy I Love Rock and Roll.

Gonna start career mode in abit, get more song unlocked

I'm loving it.
Making up for a lack of guitar experience with raw music game experience, and it's doing the job well.
Suprisingly I found easy to be easy, and normal to be slightly too hard for me right now (well to do at 98-100%).

Think my highest score on one track is around 150,000 on normal and I remember thinking a much higher score was possible :$

Disturbed316
04-07-2006, 05:05 PM
My highest score is about 81,000 on normal, easy is about 100,000 or something. I've busted my hands at work so I can't play for the next few days :(

Disturbed316
04-09-2006, 09:19 AM
Argh, medium is kicking my arse on the harder songs, just scraped through Fat Lip with a horrible score of 38,000 or something. Got to improve

Jonster
04-09-2006, 03:18 PM
Have you 5 starred all the Easy songs yet? I found that was a big help on moving to medium.
I've got 5 stars for all the songs on Medium now apart from 4 for Bark At The Moon and 3 for Cowboys From Hell (not counting the bonus songs either). The first time I saw those two I barely scraped through, but practice is good. It's not taken more than 3 goes for one so far thankfully - else I could get very bored of a song.
I tried a song on hard, and the extra note is a pain, but am going back to hard later.

Do you play standing up or sitting down?

Disturbed316
04-09-2006, 03:36 PM
I'm on the fourth set of songs at the moment, No One Knows and that Cream song is still killing me, and this time on medium.

I've only gone back to doing the first lot of easy songs, but just need to 5 star Thunder Kiss 65, currently on 4 stars

On a slightly bonus note, I 100%-ed I Love Rock and Roll :$

I rest on my knee's when I play. Sometimes you can see into my window, so don't want anyone seeing me rock out untill I've mastered a stance \m/

Jonster
04-09-2006, 03:38 PM

I 100%-ed Ziggy Stardust before I put it down to rest my arm. Only song I've done it on because I usually get over confident or too relaxed or whatever and end up missing a note.

My arm hurts :$

Disturbed316
04-09-2006, 03:43 PM
I'm actually suprised how some of the songs are quite easy, when I thought they would be murder, and the other way round.

I thought Steller would be piss easy the first time I tried it, but only managed to scrape through it.

Yet, Ziggy Stardust and a number of others are pretty easy to get through. I think if it's a slower beat you can nail them sooner than the other songs.

I dispise Killer Queen, I always fuck up the solo bit, dunno how Brian May etc managed to do it in real life.

Jonster
04-10-2006, 08:40 AM
Still not 5 starred those two Medium tracks, but have gone onto Hard anyway. Done the first 15 tracks once each, and got 4 stars on them all apart from one I got 5 and Killer Queen which I got 3.

It's not too bad really, and going back to medium made it seem slow afterwards.

Having 5 notes often fucks me right up though.

Did Cowboys From Hell and Bark At The Moon with 5 stars on medium last night. It was a cause for celebration.

I did No One Knows on hard earlier too, not bothering trying to get 5 stars on Hard yet, more trying to survive. I've done up to and including Godzilla on hard.

Expert is scaring me and I've not tried it properly yet. I managed Iron Man in Quick Play though.

Disturbed316
04-12-2006, 12:59 PM
I've been insanely busy the last couple of days so I've had little time to get on with this game :(

I did manage to do No One Knows on medium though the other night, still fuck up Crossroads though.

Managed to pass Cowboys from Hell on medium but only to a 3 star rating or something lame.

I went back to trying to five star the tracks on easy and actually found it slightly awkward at first. It throws you abit as it's not as quick as medium which I have spent more time on recently.

Hitting all of the last solo on Bark At The Moon on medium is amazingly satisfying.

Disturbed316
04-13-2006, 04:36 PM
Finished off medium last night, although the last lot of songs were pretty awfull 3 star ratings. So I went back to easy and five starred all the songs, which was pretty satisfying.

Started hard earlier today and I've so far got onto the second lot of songs, with only two of them passed. That included Ironman, which I was doing standing up, with pins and needles running down my whole right leg.

I can cope with the speed of the hard setting, it's just the addition of the fifth fret button which screws me over at the moment. I'm starting to get the hang of it though, it's just gonna take awhile I think.

Also, I found the first pretty gay thing about this game. I thought when I brought the songs/characters/guitars on medium mode, they would be able to be used on the other difficulty levels in career mode, but no, they are not

I wanna play as Death whilst attempting to do the hard difficulty :(

Amazing site if you're stuck on certain songs. It has stuff so you can "study" the songs.

I've 5 starred all mediums and now I'm 2 songs away from clearing hard. Then I'll shoot to 5 star them eventually too.

Does Motley have any songs on it? Is it anything like Amplitude?
No. There's no Crue. But the sequel coming in November might.

They tend to choose songs with guitar all the way through, so stuff like Jump by Van Halen probably wouldn't make the list.

Maybe in the second one it could have you do the bass when there is no guitar in a song.

Yeah, they did say in that IGN interview that they were looking to actually have separate tracks for each guitar in the song, rather than an amalgam of all 3 guitars like in the first GH.

And on Hard, I have 4 starred: Texas Flood, Cowboys From Hell, Bark at the Moon, Decontrol, and Breaking the Wheel

On Expert: ...I've cleared everything and a lot still needs to be 5 starred.

For those that have it and have played it what is your fav. song to play?

Mine is Behind the Mask
Behind the Mask is the worst song in the history of the world. Figures you'd like it.

FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK

I just got a huge nasty looking scratch down the disc thanks to a figure of Marv from Sin City falling off my tele when I had the disc in my hand.

Managed to get the paint off it but there is still a bastard of a scratch on one side. I'm too frightened to put it in to see if it works or not :(

At least your whammy bar isn't broken :(

There are forums and stuff dedicated to GH so I will check them out sometime to see if they have a sloution.

How badly is it broken? Is it the actual bar or the spring stuff inside?

lol

Sounds like it could be the springs. I remember reading somewhere on the guitar hero forums that someone had the same problem and found it much better than when it was fixed.

Finally put it in last night and it still works

Still slowly working my way through hard, I hate having to go to work.
