I caught PTI for the 1st time in ages the other night and they mentioned Gretzky and Rick Tocchet in some betting scandal? Can someone tell me what this is all about? Is Gretzky guilty or what?

The basic story is that Rick Tocchet was a partner in a gambling ring that spread across states and involved a New Jersey sheriff. Wayne's wife was also involved, placing over a half million dollars in bets. According to wiretaps, Wayne had no idea what was going on until the investigation began, so he's in no real trouble. Tocchet's probably out of hockey though, and there's now no fucking way that Pittsburgh gets their arena funded by a casino.

There is another thread where you could have found all of this out.

Anyway, people involved in hockey did something illegal that is completely unrelated to hockey. Wayne's wife was on of them. That is basically the story.

Pretty funny how it's labelled the Gretzky Scandal when Gretzky had nothing to do with it. It's almost as if people have forgotton Tocchet was the one who actually did something illegal.

Then it must have been extremely midly or you're like 10 years old heh. (note I'm, not saying you are, I'm just saying that Tocchet was a pretty well known player in his day and only retired a few seasons ago)
