I got this from Rajah.com, who credited PWInsider, so take it for what it's worth, but I think this is really rather good news:
<!--StartFragment -->WWE did not intend to give Rey Mysterio a title shot when he won the Royal Rumble. The plan from the beginning was for Mysterio to lose his shot at the title in a match with Randy Orton, so that the original plans for the WrestleMania 22 main-events would remain intact: Triple H vs. John Cena and Kurt Angle vs. Randy Orton.
Randy Orton is expected to win his match against Mysterio this Sunday at No Way Out, but there are reports going around that there is some push for Mysterio to win backstage. Many wrestlers disagreed with WWE's decision to let Mysterio win the Royal Rumble, and taking away his title shot would be an even worse decision.
One idea being thrown around backstage is that Mysterio should win so that there would be a triple-threat match at WrestleMania, and it would assure the Rumble winner gets his title shot.

If Rey Mysterio doesn't get his shot at Mania, then it completely ruins the whole point of the Rumble and makes it meaningless in the future imo. They should never of done this whole fucking storyline in the first place.

WWE have dug themselves in a hole.
If WWE are so high on Orton, what were they thinking letting Mysterio win?
The simple solution would be a triple threat and WWE can still give Orton the win (which still makes the Rumble win meaningless)

They're trying to have it both ways.
1) They want to capitalize on Eddie's death by pushing Rey.
2) They want to push Orton back into the top tier.
The only problem is, they only have one title for those guys to compete over. They had to choose one eventually, and they're picking the wrong time to do it. If they wanted Orton to go over at Mania, Orton should have won the Rumble. If they wanted to push Rey, he should beat Orton to continue his momentum (see: Shawn Michaels vs. Owen Hart @ NWO 1996).

WWE deserves this for trying to make money out of Eddie's death as far as I'm concerned. They will see the backlash from it now.

We're fucked both ways.
Scenario 1: Rey wins, main events Mania (Probably not the ME, since that'll be Hunter/Cena knowing the way they do shit). Suck city.
Scenario 2: Orton wins, and they've blown this whole "Rey dedicated the Rumble to his friend" thing, period.
Either way, they've fucked up, and put themselves in a position to reap no real gain.

Man alive did the WWE fuck themselves over backwards with this. But hey...this is their results when they try to capitilize on a death that happened a mere handful of months ago.

Rey is far more popular than Orton ever was.
I'd be willing to bet that Mysterio merchandise sells a lot more than orton's.

why doesnt orton or rey win and da winner goes to raw so the loser gets his title shot at smackdown and the other on raw in a triple threat match?

As much as I like Orton, I don't think he is main event level at the moment. He has no momentum coming off of a loss at Armageddon to The Undertaker, and a loss in a Street Fight to Chris Beniot. I don't think that Mysterio or Orton are the best choices for the main event at Wrestlemania. In fact, I can't think of anyone on Smackdown that is a worthy opponet for Angle's title. After Batista got injured they should have either pushed JBL or Beniot to the moon, but only to job to Angle. Until either Orton gains credibility, or Batista comes back to Smackdown, Angle is the best choice for Champion

This isn't the fist time a rumble winner hasn't ME mania. Has everyone forgotten about '97? Any way Rey dedicate the rumble victory to Eddie not Mania, so him loosing the title shot doesn't hurt the dedication at all. Stop spazzing out, the rumbles credibility will not be destroyed.

Making money out of Eddies death? That's perhaps one of the sickest ideas I've ever heard if that is WWE's intention.

It'd hold more water if he hadn't done the whole "My spot at Mania is on the line in Eddie's name!" Thing.

Said it once, will say it again.
Even though I know Rey is one of the biggest draws, I can absolutely not stand him. Never have been able to. Not sure why, but I always thought the guy was really overrated. Although in all fairness, he can do some amazing stuff in the ring. I guess the whole "Mexican in the Mask" thing doesn't get my personal attention.
So I'm really hoping that Orton beats Mysterio at NWO, for two reasons.
1) I like Orton, obviously.
and 2) Maybe it'll stop the "I won the rumble because I spoke the name of Guerrero!" thing (even though it is shitty to try and make money off of his death).

I'm not even sure Rey's a draw in this scenario.

I've said it once, and I'll say it again.
Mania is looking pretty damn lackluster right now.
Given a decent enough card w/ Rey Vs ANgle on it, I'd watch it, as they can go.
Angle and Orton, not so much. I like Orton, but I'm not a huge fan of his in ring style. Plus, Kurt and Rey already have GREAT chemistry together.
Not that my purchase really makes a difference, but that's just my view.

This is a scenario I was thinking about. Have Rey Mysterio win with help from Chavo Guerrero, so everyone goes home happy. The next night on RAW, Edge complains he's pissed off that Foley cost him the WWE Title last week, and he wants in the Road to WrestleMania Tournament Finals. So our main event is going to be Triple H vs. Big Show vs. Rob Van Dam vs. Edge with the winner main eventing RAW's side of WrestleMania.
Make it an elimination match just for fun. Big Show goes first when everyone teams up against him. Have Edge get the pin. Edge is then eliminated when Mick Foley gets involved and knocks Edge down so RVD can hit the Five Star Frog Splash for the pin. That leaves Triple H & RVD. After some shenanigans, Triple H hits a Pedigree on RVD for the 1-2-3 (that rhymed), and Triple H then cuts a promo about how he is set to main event his sixth WrestleMania, and the King of Kings is back on his throne, etc. when Rey Mysterio's music hits.
Mysterio says he never specified which title he would challenge for, and he has decided to go for the World Title which Eddie Guerrero held, the WWE Championship. So at WrestleMania we get John Cena vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Triple H for the WWE Championship.
On SmackDown! you can do what they did on SmackDown! in 2004, and have another Royal Rumble to decide who gets to main event on SmackDown!'s side. You'd have The Undertaker, JBL, Bobby Lashley, Chris Benoit, Booker T & Randy Orton in the match, so you'd have some unpredictability there.

I couldnt help but notice, even in made up storylines, RVD gets buried in a main event to WM match

Wwe using Eddie's death as a way to make money sucks.
Rey maybe pushed just to increase the number of mexicans wrestlers in the wrestling industry or just for Eddie's sake. I strongly feel that we might have a triple threat at WrestleMania 22.

By your logic, that means Undertaker isn't a draw either. He hasn't held a title in almost 4 years.

Rey Main Eventing is bad bussiness.
Orton Main Eventing is bad Politics/Karma.
WWE: Politics < Bussiness.
Atleast knowing WWE, the Junior Division will get a belt.
Rey's a Shoe-In for that one.
