Ok, so I just beat MGS 3, and the ending was incredibly powerful. Absolutly fantastic, and the story as a whole was better than MGS2. (Which is vastly underrated, IMO.) I am rarely, if ever moved, by a videogame's story, but it just stuck with me days after I beat it.
So, discuss the greatness that is MGS 3, or the metal gear series as a whole.

It's strange, I never really bothered with MGS1, but loved MGS2 and I couldn't really get into MGS3 :-\
The ending of MSG 3 also moved me. Days later I was still replaying it in my head. It was the most powerful moment in a game I ever seen. But the ladder climb (if you played the game you know the one I am talking about) is still my favorite part of the game.

The whole MGS series is the goods, but yeah, 3's the best.
That boss battle with The End? Awesome.

I just started playing this. Have had it for a while now. Friggin hard. I loved MGS 1, never played 2.
This first mission in the jungle is hard shit.
Really great game, one of the best ever. If they do ever do a MGS movie, I would hope that they'd base at least the first one on MGS 3 (as that's the earliest in the series timeline-wise anyway).

MGS is indeed the goods.
I haven't played 3 in a while now, because it's at my parents home.
But from what i have seen and played, it's far better then part 1 and 2.
I really liked 1 and enjoyed 2, but i liked 3 much better then both parts combined from what i have played and i can't wait untill part 4
MGS4 is one of the major factors of me getting the PS3.

I know exactly what you mean.
The transition of the first two to 3 is tough. I wasn't into it at first either.
STICK WITH IT
It gets amazing.
At first I wasn't too keen on MSG 3 mainly cause I prefer using the D-pad instead of the analogue stick but after a while you realise that the game is greatness. The whole scene when you are in the bike, getting chased by the big tank thing (can't think of the name) is just awesome.
PS Ocelot rules. Ever since I played that game I have found myself doing the Ocelot pose.

I haven't been able to get into it for a few reasons. Dunno why.
One big thing though, is that I know there's a lot of snakes in that game (aside from THE Snake, of course. :p). Don't ask why, but that gives me the creeps. I've considered buying MGS 3 SO many times, since I know it'll undoubtably be great, but seeing the snakes in the strategy guide gave me the creeps somewhat. Same thing in RE 4. I got so freaking creeped out every time I went up to a barrel, since the first time I saw a snake, I was REALLY surprised, to say the least.
But I know undoubtably that this game is great. Just have to get over my little creeped out spell before I get into it. But someone tell me, and this will certainly sound weird: How exactly do the snakes behave on there? Jumping out at you, hiding from you and striking, what? Never really been bothered by "jump" scares in games (although RE 4 freaked me out quite a bit in parts), but I'm really weary of this.

I haven't played MGS3 in a while so don't quote me on this, but I don't recall any snakes attacking me in the game, certainly nothing that shocked me.
The Oven Man in RE4, tho...That's another story. :nono:
UmbrellaCorporation

Oven Man...God, I remember that. Freaked me out a bit, but the Regenerators freaked me out a bit worse.
But as for the snake thing, really? You don't recall any at all?
I know that sounds horribly stupid on my part, but it's just a little tick. Kind of freaked out about it. After reading about this though, I think I'm gonna go pick up MGS 3 on Monday, and pick up Substenence next month when it comes out, since it has all three of the MGS games.
But if anyone can clear up how those damned snakes act in this game (hissing, jumping, etc? What can I expect?), I'd appreciate it. I could've sworn I saw several different kinds in the strategy guide. Some were poisonous, some were bright colors, etc, etc., if I remember right.

I had mgs3 for a while, and sorta played it a bit, got stuck half way through, anyways i was bored one tuesday on my day off work, played it 7hrs straight and got to the end, and after i saw the ending it was like woah. The ending was brilliant like previously stated above, it really stuck with me for a few days afterwards.
But if anyone can clear up how those damned snakes act in this game (hissing, jumping, etc? What can I expect?), Basically no. If you hang around them too long they will, but you'll have plenty of time to kill them before they act up.

Okay, so like, after hearing about the snake behavior (and yeah, I DO feel stupid asking about something so insignificant, but I was creeped. What can I say? :p), and hearing that they only lay on the ground, I'm gonna go get this tomorrow. I know it has a kickass story, and amazing characters.
So on the note of characters, I want to share this with you all.

I couldn't stand the gameplay of MGS3, but I downloaded a save with the invisible cammo and ran through the parts I didn't like. I played all of the boss (not just The Boss) fights though. Anyway, that's not the point. This game has one of the best stories I've ever seen in a game. Like you guys said, the ending stuck with me for a few days. I wish I could piece together all the movies/cutscenes and the significant fights into something I could sit and watch again.

I've been playing MGS3 for the first time lately, and I'm stuck in the part of Groznyj Grad where Snake has to disguise himself as a scientist to mug Raikenov (I love all the shots they take at Raiden for that scene, by the way). For some reason, even when I'm disguised and don't have face-paint on, the guards still instantly recognize me as an enemy. It sucks that I got bogged down in a part so frustrating, because up till that point I was having a blast.
Given that I won't be able to beat the game any time soon (I borrowed it from a friend who's moving away tomorrow), would anyone care to tell me how it ends?

Snake: Nope.
Para-Medic: Yes you are.
Snake: It's not a cigarette, it's a cigar.
Para-Medic: Same thing.
Snake: Not at all. In fact, there's a world of difference. There's nothing
quite like the rich smell and mellow flavor of a cigar. And that thick,
luxurious smoke is almost sensual when it...

I'm at The Pain/Bee dude,. WHat's the easiest way to take him out? Whatshisface said to huck nades at him to get rid of the bees and then shoot, but that seems really tedious, especially with having to go in the water to dodge the bees.
I just fought Ocelot and now another boss. You don't have a boss battle for like 45 min then 2 in a row. I need time to mentally prepare for another one!
Blitz
02-22-2006, 04:16 PM
Easiest way to get rid of the bees around The Pain is a couple of shotgun blasts.
You're going to have to dive into the water a few times during the fight no matter what.

Yeah I took of him. Now I'm right in front of the compound where Sokolov is I think. I believe I'm supposed to bust out my scientist outfit soon. Just passed through a forest with a bunch of traps but didn't set any off.

I just fought The End for the first time, but I read about that little easy way out before.
I wanted to get his camo, but I could not sneak up on him for anything.
Seemed really difficult to sneak up on, and difficult to find, but actually KILLING him was simple.
I'm curious though. How much more of the game is there? I'm loving it, but I keep getting the feeling that it's not totally intense yet (although I LOVED the part where you dress as the scientist).
McDoogle
02-23-2006, 09:58 AM
To sneak up on the end is VERY difficult and you can only do it at certain areas with the tall grass but you have to maintain looking at him because if he looks at your direction while you're crawling you're screwed.

IS there a reason why these guys blow up? Are they robots or something?
Taken from a Plot Analysis FAQ at gamefaqs.com:
Q u e s t i o n & A n s w e r # 2
* Why do the Cobras explode when you kill them?
I originally thought that the answer wasn't explained in the game and had two
theories as to why they exploded. However, this isn't the case and I was
e-mailed by three people on how to find out the truth. After facing The Fury,
call Major Zero enough times and Snake will ask why the Cobras keep exploding. The major mentions something about "the legend of the Cobra Unit" and puts on Sigint to supply you with the answer.
The cause of the explosions are microbombs; each Cobra member carried one on them. The reason for this comes from their missions back during World War II. As Sigint puts it, "their missions were so top secret that not only were they forbidden to be taken prisoner, they couldn't even leave their corpse behind. Because of this, or so the legend goes, they carried a microbomb with them on their missions in case they needed to commit suicide." But why do they still carry the microbombs on them? Snake takes this question with the explanation that "maybe they're ready to die. They've got no unit to go back to. Not even a country." So, the Cobras know it's do or die-- if they can't accomplish their mission then they've got nothing to live for.

completed the game like 3 and a half times i think..
first time was amazing but i missed alot out...
got stuck on the end so i just fast forwarded my clock to make him catch me...
*kinda spoilers*
i missed snake pissin himself on the part where his eye comes out... my friend told me and i was shocked and didn't want to believe it... then 2nd time through i think he was with me... i noticed it...
2nd time through took me 5 hours to complete..
got everything unlocked apart from the sniper rifle the end has...
got moss camo thou
Can't wait to get subsistance... who here will be playing it online with me?
is it just me or is fighting the end and you got a sniper rifle aiming and looking around you keep thinking he is gonna sneak up on you...
I really get eary when fighting the end alone...
my heart goes jumping...
anyway to find out where he is so you can snipe him easier...
get a torch put it on and run around in circles till he shoots you... immediatly go on cure and get the bulltet out...
then on the map it will show you where he is...
then just snipe him..
and here is a clip of subsistance it looks amazing.

So I beat this game a couple of days ago, and...wow. That's all I can say.
The ending practically brought me to tears, and the last confrontation with *HIGHLIGHT*:
Ocelot was amazing. Just pressing R1 and watching him juggle the revolvers was insane, but actually going against him in a standoff was great. Probably one of the most memorable things that I've seen in a video game ever.
So I bought MGS 2 today (despite the weirdness I've heard about it), and I'm looking for MGS 1. I intend to pick up Subsistence too, when it comes out.
Oh, and I managed to get The End's camo after getting the Spirit camouflage from The Sorrow. No sound while moving = Instant Win.
Now only to either A) Go through the game with no alerts (not happening for me, as I suck with stealth), or B) Catch a Tschukinoko (far more likely) to get the Infinity Face Paint.

MGS is awesome, I'm really bad at the though, I'm good at stealth, but the whole stamina in MGS3 pisses me off, every minuite I have to eat a crap or something, then I have to stock up on crabs. :-\ I can only do it on Very Easy, and even that was hard.
I never fought The End, if you set the PS2 clock forward a week, he dies of old age before you fight. This time though I'm all up for taking him on, and I have the spirit Camo, so it should be easy.
Where do you get the choc chip camo? And also, I loved the sorrow, thing is though, only about 2 people walked down, this time around though, I killed everyone I met (stealthily btw)
Oh yeah, how do you interrigate guards? I can never do it right, I try to grab him, but it just slashes at him.
