He's not even the worst champion TNA has had in 2006.

And if you want to pretend that Jarrett's better, I could name a half dozen worse World Champions just off the top of my head:

Chris Candido
David Arquette
Ron Killings
Ronnie Garvin
Vince McMahon
Vince Russo

Well this board has been talking about him in TNA and even had that "World Champion" post not too long back, so you're definately out of it.

As for Desiel, I won't argue with you...not on the fact that I agree but that you're opinion is your own. I honestly wasn't a big Christian fan in WWE, but I was starting to get into him near the end of his run, and really am getting a kick out of him now in the TNA (though I do believe the company should make their own World Championship and stop mooching off the history of the NWA Championship...the company isn't even apart of the alliance anymore).

Jarrett has made that title a complete joke.

It was a joke long before him...the title really hasn't ment much since a certain TNA interviewer threw it to the ground after winning it 13 years ago. Which btw makes an interesting question...does anyone else find it ironic that Shane Douglas has been kissing ass of the NWA Championship for the last 1 1/2?

When people say the title is a joke, because someone tossed it in the garbage, I have to laugh. It's not like they are are real shoot fighters that have changed allegiances and left their former company at a loss in true wrestling talent. It's scripted. It's not real. This isn't the UFC or Pro Boxing.

The TNA title is a joke because Jarrett went Triple H on it completly devalued it.

Seriously, what credibility did it have before Jarret or TNA since the fall of NWA in the late 80's. Come on...no one has really even been keeping track of the title since TNA came along. The only time I've heard about the title in-between that Shane Douglas held it and TNA was the reigns of Sabu and Steve Corino which I know little about.

Jarrett did go HHH on it...and it did help further tarnish the NWA legacy...but the title was a joke LONG before Jarrett.

Meh the thing that it does have in its favour is a history of legends carrying the belt. So when Christain comes out and mentions names like the funks, flair, race etc it does give the title alot of cred back. And dont bitch about the "casual fan" not knowing thier names there are alot smarter than you think. And besides more important than that alot of people high up rate the nwa title preety highily. Id take that over what a few marks say.

But they're not trying to get the "people high up" to watch their TV show or buy their PPVs. They're trying to get "a few marks" to do it. The "people high up" are already watching the program.

I will agree with you, though, that Christian dropping those names goes a fair distance to reminding casual fans what the belt is worth.

Meh, I'm not trying to bash the title...I'm calling it like I see it. Just I'm sick of anyone who bashes Jarrett for "detroying" the championship or "making it a joke". In honesty, as much as Jarrett shouldn't be pulling HHH's, it's not killing the title...just makes it more boring to watch a title match. Jarrett isn't a terrible world champion, he just not someone who should be playing the top heel for months on end, expecially when he should be running it to be a great company and not his personal stepping stone into wrestling legacy.

Now what's this about me ignoring the "casual fan" or what some high up people (well, that's what I'm gathering from what you're saying). I think the NWA Championship is personally a title with a great history and even after 15 years of really being out of the lime light, is still considered a great championship...but only on people who held the championship before 91. Notice in the great history speeches by the latest and greatest champion never mention someone in the last 15 years. No mention of Steve Corino, Sabu, Dan Severen. No, it's ALWAYS Flair, Rhodes, Steamboat, Race, or Funk mentioned. So the title may be big...but no champion to this point has live up to it's legacy in the past 15 years...only retold it.

Also, while on the subject of "retelling" the history of the NWA Championship...is that the only way to give it credibility. I mean, I won't bitch about retelling it's history for the sake of the casual fans or any fan for that matter. I will bitch about it though on the fact that you should have to always mention the past to make a title or company seem great. When is the last time you saw someone win the WWE Championship and have to go "my name is now forever linked with such names as Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart, Ric Flair, Randy Savage, Andre "The Giant", Shawn Micheals, Buddy Rogers". To my record, it's never had to happen. However, I beleive everytime the NWA Championship is mentioned, even the champion has to talk about past holders just to make the accomplishment look like something.

So to conclude this somewhat long rant, I'll state this. The NWA Championship is highly though of by just as many people who think it's a joke. The title is linked to some of the greatest wrestlers and even wrestling matches of all time. Yet the past decades have proven the belt to no longer live up to it's legacy. It is a joke, and will continue to be a joke till a great champion can bring it back. It's obviously proven not to be Jarrett, as he's the reason this arguement here started. Also, it's no one else who's held the title...AJ Styles, Raven, Rhino, and even Christian. However, I hope one day one of those men, or even another rises to the point where the championship is truely a "World" championship again, on par with what the WWE's main championships are now. Right now though....it's just something that to a wrestler onces ment everything, and today just barely means anything.

When some people call something a joke it usaully means they dont think much of it. You may be the exception.

Im aware that the NWA title hasnt looked that great for awhile now but when someone wins it it should be treated as a great achievement not be cast of as joke given its history.

And what I was getting at with the casual fans and the "higher ups" is that some smarks crap on about how something is only credible if a mark know what it is. Just because alot marks dont know what the fuck the nwa title is all about dosnt make it any less important. Whats more important is how the ones that know their shit in the industry rate the title.

What Would Kevin Do?
02-20-2006, 07:00 AM
Last big legit NWA champ IMO was Shin'ya Hashimoto (RIP). Corino and Shamrock don't look bad holding it (Corino has been doing alright for himself in Japan, so it's not like he was just hanging around after ECW went under and won it.)

After Hashimoto though, I will say the biggest, most legit champ after him was Jarrett. As a former WCW champion, it doesn't seem far fetched that he would hold it.

Christian has to be an underdog champion IMO. He has to be the cool guy people love, but doesn't quite measure up to the big guys images of an "ideal" champion. His entire reign should be him trying to prove he is good enough to hold the title. If they do that, I think he reign will mean a lot more, and will set him up for a second reign where he can be viewed as a real champion. (If this is making any sense, I don't know.)
