View Full Version : Backstage heat on Tommy Dreamer
Impact!

Partial Source: WrestlingObserver.com
Tommy Dreamer told CM Punk that he could work ROH's date last Sat. with the conditions of he couldn't be advertised, he couldn't job, he couldn't wrestle or be involved with anyone from TNA, and it could only be a one time thing. From there Dreamer left to do an indie date in England. He didn't tell anyone else in WWE that he gave Punk permission including Johnny Ace.
The situation "exploded" at Raw on Monday. Vince and Steph went up to Ace and gave him a bunch of heat asking him why he let a member of WWE appear on a show with "so many TNA stars". Even though a lot of the wrestlers by this time knew that Punk did the ROH show (as well as it being on the net), Ace was said to be "blindsided" by the McMahon's approach. All the heat then went to Punk and he told them Dreamer approved of it, so then Dreamer got the final heat. According to sources, guys like HHH, HBK, Hayes, and even Arn Anderson have been all over Punk about his work rate. Anderson goes along with HHH and says that Punk "copies" a lot of popular moves from Japan. The feeling is Punk's relationship with Maria "doesn't help matters".

L L, it could be worse. Replace CM Punk, who is well meaning half the time, with... say... Teddy Hart?
As far as the situation... Stupid. Let me enumerate.
1. If Tommy said it was ok and didn't tell other people about it, it's his fault, plain and simple.
2. Johnny Ace is scum of the earth. He got to where he is for two reasons: Being the brother of a Road Warrior and being really close to Giant Baba's wife in All Japan. He and fellow Dynamic Dude Shane Douglas both make me sick, but in completely different ways. At least Shane was talented, he was just an idiot.
3. Stealing popular moves from Japan? Let me guess, there's heat on Gregory Helms for the same reason, right? (Shining Wizard, anyone?) Or do they mean the running Enziguri that Tenzan uses (and Jericho also used)? The reality is: it's all about the Pepsi Plunge. Hell if he modified it just a smidge, it'd be a different move altogether. Let me guess, he should use the Overdrive, right? Then again, he could use the Anaconda Vice for a finish.
3. Arn could have been bigger if he wanted to. He was in the position politically, he just never used the clout he had. A shame really.
4. Hayes, well, if anyone got screwed over by Flair more than Foley, it was Hayes. Maybe the problems with Hayes and Arn have more to do with Lifestyle related (Aren't both Alcoholics?) and the ringwork is more nit-pickery than anything else. I'm not trying to Swiftboat or anything like that, it's a simple observation.
5. Shawn and HHH? heh, it looks like they've gone beyond cutting the legs out from under talent while they are starting on their televised rise (Candido, Douglas, Owen, Test, Jericho, RVD, Booker) and are starting to cut the legs out from under talent PRE-EMPTIVELY.
6. Is Punk an ass? Yeah, sure. But he's also perhaps the best wrestler they have in their developmental program. I was looking at the Punk/Albright promos, and it was painfully obvious that Albright was playing Malenko to Punk's Jericho.
7. His relationship with Maria is negative? Yeah, god forbid he should get involved with someone who is in the business. It can only be bad for his career. Right Shawn? Right Hunter?
In essence, like I said: Stupid.

IMO, i dont really care how good you are. if your an ass and you havent made it to the big times and your showing disrespect, who cars how talented you are? THis situation is not in punks fault at all, but overall its just a known fact of life. You show disrespect to the pepole who are at were your tryin to be, they wont think to highly of you no matter what you do off that top turnbuckle or what move you can do that hasnt been seen in years. People know this as jealousy and unless your HHH, its not getting you any were.
IMO, we will see punk in TNA, and NEVER in wwe for these reasons.

Oh, so he should wait until AFTER he signs to WWE before being an ass? Also, half of the disrespect is considered disrespect if you WANT to be disrespected. If you don't like somebody, you will go out of your way to JUSTIFY not liking that person. Even if it IS grasping at straws. Of course, it works the other way, too. If you like somebody, you will go out of your way to JUSTIFY liking that person.
Also, there's the concept in WWE called "living your gimmick," which some folks are required to do (see: Eugene). CM Punk is a character BASED on disrespect (he doesn't drink, he doesn't do drugs, and he is better than you.). Perhaps, for idiocy reasons, he was told he has to live his gimmick, and he is being punished for doing that? Before you say "That's absurd," this IS WWE. They'll fire you for not cutting your hair and breaking a pot...
As far as your assertion that he'll be on TNA before he'll ever be in WWE television. I agree. It's a shame that it's the case, but I agree.

No he shouldnt wait till hes signed to be an ass, he shiouldnt be an ass is what im tryin to say all togehter. Eugene doesnt live his gimmick backstage, out in public yes, but i doubt backstage. I love to see how far "living his gimmick" by pissing off top names (rememeber beniot is one of those pepole hes annoyed in the past, and hes not HHH/Shawn type of guy) in the backstage by mockingly ask them if he can dress with them amousnst other manuvers gets him.

Uhm... He actually is straight edge. He's a punk, and punks tend to think that they're better than everyone else... Especially straight edge punks. Being an actual punk is a lifestyle.
I think there's some heat (or whatever), that he and Maria are dating, because she's a pretty girly girl and the WWE views it bad for her image. It may not be because of this. There may be some things that we don't know. I can only go on speculation.

Punk is incredibly talented and brings a bit of an old school style and he actually has a good command on how a match should pace, and what spots should be in it. His problem is that he is very headstrong which will only hurt him getting to the main roster.

In a fuller answer, the Pepsi Plunge is a Pedigree off the top turnbuckle.
Side note: would he have to change the name of that seen as how WWE are more mainstream than where he came from (TNA? ROH?) and they don't want to be sued for unlawful use of a trademark or anything. Hell, Punk may have to start wearing something to cover his tattoo.

He'll never cover the tat. The pepsi symbol is huge in the sxe culture (as it represents something that won't get you drunk or high).
He hasn't changed the name of the move in OVW yet, doubt they'll do it if he ever reaches the big time.
The great thing about Punk is that, unlike Nic Dinsmore, he already has a built-in "gimmick" because it's who he really is.

It's not that the WWE stars can't give decent promos; it's because the fucking writers don't know how to make each character individual and give them individual lines and speech patterns.
RVD's promos have recently gotten much better because he's not using writers. Hopefully Punk will be given the same treatment, as he knows how to cut a promo, but anything can happen in the WWE.
