Which wrestler do you think would make it in real fighting competion? Whether it would be UFC, PRIDE, or whatever.

My first choice obviously would be Kurt Angle.

Angle, if his neck weren't shot, could probably shoot with the best of them.

All of those dudes (minus MAYBE Angle depending on how he could take a punch) would get destroyed in MMA..

They are not trained how you have to be to make it in MMA..

Well, it's still a stupid topic because anyone with the proper training and determination could "make it" in MMA..

What Would Kevin Do?

Didn't Sean O'Haire try, but get owned in K-1? OR did he do okay? Akebono did it and was horrible.

Anyway.... MAYBE Angle, Shelton, or Brock... Mainly because they all have amateur wrestling experience. Steve Blackman could have a shot too. ( If ya want to be bloody obvious, Shamrock, Severn, etc.)

Maybe he did? I didn't look into it at all. I just haven't heard of many wrestlers making the transistion and doing well.

Sean O'Haire has lost more fights than he has won. Granted, he is losing K-1 (kickboxing) fights against the best in the world like Gary Goodridge but he is losing none the less.

The only guy I'd give any small hope to in the WWE would be Rob Van Dam. He is the only guy with enough martial arts background who is young enough and injury free to stand any chance. Angle is fucked and Daniel Puder showed what chances he'd really have.

I dunno. I don't know if Angle was expecting that type of shoot during that segment. I think there's more of a preparation. If Angle were to actually prepare for something like that, I think it'd be different.

Yeah I mean look at the Angle invitational, he was ready for those and he won every one! Well Except for against Eugene, but Eugene was mor prepared than Angle..............

Well if he didn't then he is a fucking dick. He should know better to shoot on professional fighters and not expect a comeback. And Angle also has stated many times he has very little feeling left in his arms and fingers. He is at a huge handicap before even getting into a competitive match. And he didn't go to Olympic Trials for wrestling because of his neck injury. He'd get absolutely murdered. He probably wouldn't even get medical clearanced by the Nevada Atheltic State Commission to even fight.

have you watched ufc or any mma? it doesn't matter what your "special" martial art consists of. 99% of the time the fight ends on the ground. unless you have a defense only specialty like joyce gracie, any martial artist would be destroied by a trained wrestler be it greco-roman or whatever.

Joyrider
02-27-2006, 07:20 PM
lol try telling Chuck Liddel, Andrea Arvolski, and Rich Franklin 99% of fights finish on the floor, very few people have a knockout punch, very few pro wrestlers do, and to make it BIG, you MUST have a knockout punch/Kick. Takedown defence and summision is a big help also, but shoot fighting alone won't cut it in MMA.

Shamrock in his prime would beat Angle in MMA, as Angle would beat Shamrock in an Amature wrstling match. Angles amature career he never had to worry about being kicked or punched in the face, wrestling defence is very minimal. I doubt very much any wrestler in the WWE could step into the octagon and beat any of the current UFC champions.

Two very different sports, UFC fighter could make it in MMA but I highly doubt any WWE superstar would cut in in MMA.

Crazy because he was so crafty at making people tap, the ref misses it most of the time..

p.s.there's a dude fighting in PRIDE now who calls himself the "Gracie Hunter" because he's beaten most of the Gracie family..

I've been following MMA, not just the UFC since UFC 1. I RELIGIOUSLY watch UFC and Pride more than I EVER did for wrestling.

Rob Van Dam has more variation in martial arts than you think he does. I'd also be interested to see where you got the "99% of the time the fight ends on the ground" arguement. You should be asking yourself if you have watched MMA before you think about asking others dude. Especially since you don't even know Royce Gracie. And funny enough, you mentioned fights don't end on the ground when you have a "specialty" like he does. How many Gracie fights have you seen end standing up anyway? How can you seriously say you know anything about MMA and not know how to spell Royce anyway? Sorry but it's not an easy mistake to make as you said. You could have even copied and pasted from another site just to save yourself the embarrassment.

And as for any martial artist being destroyed by a trained wrestler, you must still be living in 1995 or something. Up here in the real world in 2006, all the champions in the UFC don't not have world standard wrestling backgrounds. Only Chuck Liddell has any competitive wrestling background from all of them.

when ufc first became big..ala 1995, the fights were longer and more hardcore. nowadays if someone punches someone else two times the fight is called. its stupid now. so, going by old school ufc rules yes, a trained wrestler would destroy a martial artest. If you are going to attack my knowledge because of a typo then you are a sad little man. go rent all the early ufc dvds and I want you to tell me how many fights were won because of a spin kick!

Rob

It is worth noting just how seriously injured Angle is. The guy shouldn't be risking his ass as-is, let alone enter a real fight. A healthy angle might fare well, but modern-day Kurt is a dead man walking.
