They deflect bullets with their unsold live albums.

I thought they were dead

Just their grunge spirit.

With the exception of "Last Kiss," I never listen to anything they have done post-"No Code."

I guess I should give the new stuff a chance because I haven't heard it yet, but I won't get my hopes too high. But given that they have produced some awesome shit in their lives, they can never be completely pushed aside.

Yield is a great album, Binaural and Riot Act is a hit or miss with a lot of people. Most people don't like those albums because it's different from what they "expect" from Pearl Jam.

This new album is being hyped as a Yield/Vitalogy type feel to it.

Worldwide Suicide?

"I'd like to dedicate this album to all my friends on Myspace."

I'll give it a listen when it comes out. But I wasn't that impressed with the last offering.

I thought their last two albums were meant for Worldwide Suicide.

Meant to induce it at least. Because I feel like killing myself from having to listen to their garbage.

Yeah I figured when this topic was made, not many people around here would give a shit.

Yeah because it's not emo, ear numbing thrash metal, or rap.

AKA music with substance.

LOL. So if it's not emo or metal, it's validated as having substance?

Come on, some of the best music has almost no substance to it whatsoever.

Not to mention I haven't found much substance in Pearl Jam, regardless.

I don't have one good friend I can confide my love of Pearl Jam in. Everyone likes Ten and nothing else.

I've gotten used to it. I love everything they have ever done. But that's just me.

I'm pretty sure I'm gonna have a ton of trouble finding someone to come with me to see them this time around. None of my friends want to pay over 20 bucks to see a show. Especially a band they don't care about.

FWIW, I have like 4 Pearl Jam Records and then like 9 of the live concert series they released.

Doesn't mean I think they're deep. In fact, it's easier to justify my fandom when people aren't trying tp dub them as "amazing" or "brilliant" or "substantial."

You think YOU have it bad? Try being a Queen fan.

I can understand why people don't think they are deep. But I don't think people can deny their energy.

I have been musically frustrated for years because of this. My friends ask me every day to listen to some band I've never heard of, and I do my best to give it a listen. I don't like it all, but at least I give it a shot. Then I give them an album like Yield and they won't touch it with a ten foot pole. I just don't think most people get the energy that I get when I listen to it. I mean Pearl Jam is definitely no Radiohead in terms of musical broadness, even if their sound has changed from the same 5 songs they play on the radio every day. But, to me, Pearl Jam's substance IS in the live performance. They can play their songs live like no one else, because you can tell that it wasn't just created from a bunch of takes in a studio. That is what is "amazing" about them (to me).

I think PJ are pretty deep as far as lyrics go, Eddie kinda twists an ordinary line to something really poetic.
