Yeah, so late in November I got one of those smaller PS2s. Anyway, it's now February and it's already doing that "The disc could not be read" bullshit. This is especially annoying because I just got Guitar Hero.
Out of all my games, it only plays Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution and Burnout Revenge. The rest get errors. It still plays movies and CDs, though.
So, what is the standard procedure for this sort of thing?

Go to gamefaqs. They have a walkthru on how to call up Sony and get a free fixer-upper thingy. They even tell you how to place a telephone call. It's quite helpful. Lemme find you a link thing to click on.

Huh. It seems they got rid of it.

They have the FAQ to open up your PS2 and tweak with it, but I definitly don't reccomend that.

6.) My PS2 doesn't play blue discs, or I'm getting Disk Read Errors! Help!
Both problems are essentially the same: your PS2's laser is either worn out or has drifted out of alignment. Since I have no experience with opening the PS2 up and fiddling around inside, I won't try and explain the procedure myself - instead, I'll hand you over to the good folks at Ars Technica:
http://arstechnica.com/articles/paedia/hardware/ps2.ars
By the way, I will NOT be held responsible for anything that might happen to your PS2 once you've opened it up.
If you don't like the sound of poking around in your PS2's guts, your only other option is to have it repaired. Either find a reputable local dealer who'll do it for you, or send it off to Sony. If it's within warranty, you'll get it fixed for free - if not, the fee is $75 USD, £55 GBP, and most probably around the same elsewhere. You'll find the technical support line for Sony in the back of most game manuals.

75 bones if it's not covered by the warranty? Bullshit I say!
Anyway, gonna call them up. How long does this usually take?

I should think so. I bought it not even 4 months ago. And it's not second hand.

Yeah, it doesn't hurt to call them up. I don't know the number. Look around for it.

my original from like 2001ish broke when my dog walkked over the wires and made it come crashing down. The tray is broken on that, not knowing it could be repaired, I bought a new one late '02 early '03 and it still hauls ass.
