This is just a thread where we can discuss ways to get misused talent in the WWE into the limelight. Try and ge them from their current place on the card into the main event, even as far as being World Champion.
This is only semi-serious, as ideas like these will probably never happen in the WWE, but it does allow ourselves to stretch ourselves creatively and sniff out possible storylines for the WWE to use instead of releasing guys because "creative has nothing for them".
First on my agenda is Val Venis:
On RAW, Vince McMahon is backstage when he is approached by Val Venis. Venis says he knows Vince McMahon gets off on manipulation and feeling in control. McMahon agrees with this. Venis says if that is the case, Venis wants to voluntarily join the Vince McMahon "Kiss My Ass" club next week on RAW. Vinnie Mac accepts, and we get little articles on WWE.com about it.
The next week on RAW, Vince McMahon is out and cuts a promo about respecting authority. He talks about how Venis chose the WWE over WCW even when WCW offered him more money. He mentions Venis being a member of his administration for a while early on in the brand split. He then introduces us to Val Venis, who comes out in a nice suit. McMahon drops his trousers and Val Venis gets on one knee before getting up to address the fans who are booing. Venis says that he has been beneath a glass ceiling for the last eight years of his career, and he has only seen the light at the end of the tunnel a few times. Venis says he is sick of being lost, and he wants Vince McMahon to take him out of the labyrinth he is currently in. Venis then kisses Vince McMahon's ass, and McMahon says that what Venis did wasn't embarrassing, it was monumental. McMahon then says that as a reward for realising who the higher power in the WWE is, Venis can expect some benefits coming his way.
We don't see Venis doing anything too special again until Saturday Night Main Event. During the Street Fight he runs out with a steel chair. Venis nails Shawn Michaels, allowing Shane McMahon to get the win. Venis then beats on Michaels and puts him in the Venis Flytrap.
As a reward for helping the McMahons get one over Michaels, Vince McMahon makes Val Venis the Special Guest Referee in his match against Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania. Vince McMahon also adds the stipulation that if Shawn Michaels loses this match, he will be forced to take a reduced schedule. Over the weeks it becomes apparent Vince McMahon will reward Val Venis with a WWE Title Shot if McMahon wins at WrestleMania. During that match, Venis helps Vince McMahon get control, and ends up working most of the match. Whenever Shawn looks to hit Venis back, Venis reminds Shawn he is the Special Guest Referee. McMahon ends up winning the match, which means HBK has to semi-retire, while Val Venis will receive a title shot in the near future.
That title shot comes the next night on RAW. At WrestleMania, John Cena defeated Triple H to retain the WWE Championship. Have that match end with an F-U off the top rope. The main event is your basic match, as we are reminded constantly that Venis didn't actually wrestle a match to earn his title shot, and he got it by kissing ass (literally) and beating on a man who couldn't fight back. John Cena looks to put Venis awya with a Top Rope F-U, but Triple H is out as the ref is distracted by something, and he hangs Cena up across the top rope. Cena is lying prone on the mat, as Venis adjusts himself on the top turnbuckle. Venis poses before unloading...The Money Shot! 1-2-3! Val Venis is your new WWE Champion.
John Cena goes on to face Triple H in a Street Fight, or something of the like, at Backlash. Also at Backlash, Val Venis defends the WWE Championship against Shawn Michaels, who finally gets the chance to get his hands on Venis.

I would like to see the whole cruiserweight division re packaged and pushed. Okay, it does get air time, but more often than not, it's at least six wrestlers in a ring and over the top battle royals and stuff like that.
I'd love to see a couple of decent cruiserweight feuds, ending with one on one matches.

That could actually work. Paul London & Brian Kendrick as followers of The Undertaker, especially. Here is an idea for another superstar, which basically recycles their gimmick from OVW:
On Velocity one week, a masked wrestler makes his debut, referred to only as "Machine". He wears black leather pants, and his mask is nothing fancy, just something to hide his identity. Machine squashes jobbers for a few weeks on Velocity, before taking on Funaki, Scotty 2 Hotty and the like.
One week on SmackDown!, Chris Benoit gives out an Open Challenge for the WWE United States Championship. Machine answers the call. Everyone thinks this is going to be a regular squash match, but Machine not only holds his own against Chris Benoit, but controls a lot of the match, going hold-for-hold with the Rabid Wolverine. After some shenanigans, Machine becomes the United States Champion. People are shocked as Michael Cole demands to know the identity of this masked man.
Machine defends the belt against Benoit in another MOTY candidate, then takes on other talented superstars, successfully retaining the belt each time, whether it be by hook or crook. Machine cuts a promo calling himself the greatest technical wrestler alive today, even going far as dubbing himself "The Wrestling Machine". This draws the attention of World Heavyweight Champion, Kurt Angle (who holds the belt post-WrestleMania). Angle says that seeing as the US Champion is #1 Contender for the World Heavyweight Championship by default, Angle wants to defend the World Title against Machine at the next event, which just so happens to be The Great American Bash.
Machine & Angle work an interesting storyline going into their match at The GAB. Angle tries to uncover the identity of Machine, which brings out some guys who claim to know who he is. Machine quickly shuts these guys up by introducing the Piledriver to his moveset. He puts these guys on the shelf, which keeps them from talking. Machine says he will cripple Angle at The GAB with the Piledriver, which adds a similar dynamic to the match that Stone Cold Steve Austin/Kurt Angle in 2001 had. Angle won't be pinned by the Piledriver at The Great American Bash, so Machine hits it on the steel steps, which the announce team sell as death. Machine pins Angle for the 1-2-3. Machine is now the undefeated WWE United States Champion and World Heavyweight Champion. He is forced to forfeit the US Title, which lets us have a tournament heading into Summerslam. Machine says now he is at the top, he will reveal his identity to us. He then changes his mind saying that we don't deserve to see who he is.
Enter Batista. The former World Heavyweight Champion is back, and he wants to reclaim his throne. He is locked in as Machine's opponent for Summerslam. Batista says that he will unmask Machine to satisfy his and his own curiosity. Batista & Machine have a good match, which results in Batista getting the Batista Bomb on Machine, after Angle makes his return from injury (give the guy a break for a month) costing Machine the match. After the match, Angle & Batista strip off the mask of Machine to reveal..................Doug Basham. In a WTF moment, the PPV goes off air with Batista holding the big, gold belt, standing next to Angle over an unconcious Doug Basham.
The logical thing to do after this is to have Kurt Angle continue his feud with Doug Basham heading into No Mercy.

Rene Dupree has been gone for awhile...
There is a big buildup on his return...
the raw before wrestlemania dupree says he is going to make a big impact at mania after a squash match against a jobber...
at wrestlemania the MITB match flair is laying down on a table and gets frog splashed from the top of the ladder...
rvd gets up and gets super kicked by benjamin, benjamin runs into the ring and climbs the ladder...
then out of no where dupree comes in the ring and climbs the ladder and dupree drviers shelton off the top of the ladder...
then climbs up the ladder and grabs the briefcase claiming it for his own.
half a year later dupree has been on top beating everyone...
going on from where venis won the title...
venis and micheals have a brutal match after micheals losing to the venis flytrap.
dupree runs in from behind dupree drivers venis then does the lil dance thing mc mahon comes from behind and asks him what the hell he is doing then dupree shouts i'm cashing in then picks up venis and dupree drivers him again then pins him for the win :D

This is the kind of thing I'm after. Crazy ideas that the WWE will never go through with, but would be awesome if they did.
Rene Dupree has all the talent in the world, but for some reason I think he will be repackaged when he returns anyway. Sylvan has taken on the stereotypical French role on SmackDown!. Not saying the WWE isn't stupid enough to have two seperate evil Frenchman characters.
What does everyone think about the Val Venis idea? Sure it's unlikely as Hell, but I can see it happening. The WWE is obviously high on Venis (much like they were Bradshaw), explaining why he still has a job. Venis has been loyal to the company, you never hear about issues with him in the back, etc. He's a great in-ring worker. He basically reminds me of a slightly smaller, slightly more technical version of Bradshaw. In two months Bradshaw went from his gimmick to WWE Championship contender.
The WWE has tried re-packaging Venis several times, giving him new music, giving him valets and managers, having him turn his back on his porn star "heritage", but what they haven't tried to do (although his heel turn with Trish Stratus was something close), is turn the Val Venis character, porn star and all, into a heel character.
Throughout this all, Venis keeps the "Hello Ladies" theme music. He wears the same attire, comes out in a towel, etc. He is just now tainted by the fact he got out form under the glass ceiling by literally kissing ass. Sort of like Jared from Subway, he becomes the spokesperson for kissing ass, saying how it changed his life for the better.
I don't know why, but pushing Val Venis, against what precedent tells us, is something I can see the WWE doing. Why not? He's got the background (Edge & JBL, men who at one stage were lower than Venis made the ride to the top with a few easy adjustments), the talent, and no one has any problems with him to my knowledge. Venis has said he wants to be a heel WWE Champion, I think, so why not let him get that wish, even if it is only for a short time. Before Venis retires and works his way into a backstage or non-wrestling role with the company (which I think is very likely), I think they should honour his on-screen contributions to the company.
Another interesting fact: If Val Venis wins the WWE Championship, he will be only the fourth man to win the Grand Slam Championship, if you don't include Kurt Angle & Eddie Guerrero (as they won the WWE Tag Team Championship, not the World Tag Team Championship), following Shawn Michaels, Triple H & Chris Jericho. It's interesting that with as little as one win, Val Venis could appear on a list exclusively with Shawn Michaels, Triple H & Chris Jericho.

One quick point: "Porn star" Val Venis has been a heel. He was a heel when he debuted for a few weeks and he was a heel when he returned at Royal Rumble 2002 (I think!) which was not long before the whole Chief Morley crap.
And I think he was supposed to be a heel when he was feuding with Dustin "He's Coming Back" Runnels too.

Yeah, you're right. Venis was meant to be a heel, but they didn't really push him hard enough with it (in 2002), and he was turned face when the fans loved his gimmick in 1998.
Since then, though, he has only been a heel with changes to his character (serious competitor, RTC, Chief of Staff, etc.).

Not true. The original inspiration for the Val Venis gimmick was, of course, the legendary Ravishing Rick Rude... a natural and brilliant heel. Just have Val Venis boast about his porn conquests and how the audience could only dream of having the kind of women he's had... and remember VENIS ENVY?
I think it would be real amusing if Venis were to extract heat from the guys in the audience by, much in the same way Rude would boast that he had a better body than the crowd, if Val rubbed it in that he had a BIGGER COCK than anyone in the crowd. PMSL. Awesome.
Val Venis, by the very nature of his gimmick, could be the greatest heel in the WWE if only he was utilised the right way. He can wrestle like a 2006 model Ted DiBiase, and he has a character that, if presented properly, it is only posssible to loathe. Even the women won't like him as he's a boastful, womanizing, cheating sleazeball. But he needs to grow his hair back first!!!

The only amendment he'd have to make is he'd have to cut out a lot of the tongue-in-cheek cheesiness that made him popular on his debut in 1998 otherwise he'll be in the dreaded too-entertaining-to-boo category, which means they'd turn him face and he'd just bomb again.

Here's an idea for Paul London & Brian Kendrick:
On RAW, Vince McMahon says he was going to book The Rockers against The Spirit Squad, but since Marty Jannetty couldn't hold a job, it's going to be four-on-one again. McMahon says he will allow any superstar in the WWE to team up with Michaels to even the odds, but it must be said that anyone who does that is asking for the wrong kind of attention from the higher-ups.
Shawn Michaels comes out to face Kenny, Johnny, Mikey & Nick alone. He goes to enter the ring when Paul London's theme hits, and two masked figures in shiny purple attire run out and charge the ring, clearing a path for Shawn Michaels. On commentary, Joey Styles reminds us that Shawn Michaels trained Paul London & Brian Kendrick. Jonathan Coachman protests that they are on SmackDown!, thus they shouldn't be there, to which Styles reminds us Vince said "any superstar in the WWE". Jerry Lawler says they're not going to be much help, anyway.
So we go through the motions, with some nice moves being pulled out, particularly by London, Kendrick, Kenny, Johnny & Mikey. London & Kendrick work the opening portion of the match with quick tags, picking apart Mikey. Eventually in comes Shawn Michaels who gets the fans into it. He eventually tags Brian Kendrick, who becomes isoloted by the heels. They do a faux tag spot, where London gets the much needed tag, but Mitch distracted the referee so London isn't allowed in officially.
Needless to say, Kendrick gets the real tag to HBK, who comes in on fire. Eventually The Spirit Squad get to him, though, so he tags in London, who with Kendrick puts out Mikey with the Get Well Soon for the win.
Afterwards, Vince McMahon comes out and says that since Paul London & Brian Kendrick love being hereos so much, they can be hereos at WrestleMania. They will "save" the tag team division when they face Kane & Big Show for the World Tag Team Championship.
At WrestleMania, I have confidence the four men would be able to pull out a great Davids vs. Goliaths contest, with London & Kendrick somehow getting the win.
It doesn't make either guy a World Champion, but it allows the fans to take notice of them. Eventually, London & Kendrick would work with guys like Triple H and Edge (much like The Hardyz did when the WWE was trying to expose them to the higher ranks). They can rack up IC Title wins, especially if they feud with Shelton Benjamin (IC Champion) and Charlie Haas over the World Tag Team Titles.
One of them eventually wins a Battle Royal to challenge the WWE Champion (let's say for argument's sake, Triple H is WWE Champion and Paul London is challenging) on RAW. London fights and fights, but it looks like Triple H has his number. Triple H takes his time setting London up for a Pedigree while the ref is down. Out of nowhere, Shawn Michaels is in the ring, and he gives Triple H a good chorus of Sweet Chin Music. Paul London covers...1...2...3! Upset of the century!
Whether or not you actually run with Paul London as WWE Champion, or whether you have Triple H get the title back the following week in a Steel Cage Match is anybody's guess, probably depending on how it all goes over. If they do keep the belt on London for a few weeks, a match with Brian Kendrick with Shawn Michaels as Special Guest Referee, a match against Shawn Michaels and a Ladder Match against Brian Kendrick are all in order.
