If you've just seen a movie on DVD or TV or whatever and liked it and want to talk about it or recommend it, post it here. Tell what it's about and why it's so good.

Don't use this thread as a "catch all" thread for every single movie that you want to post about. Like if it is a relatively big movie, it should have its own thread, BUT YOU KNOW. Common sense it.

This thread is basically for people to find movies based on all your recommendations.

Suicide Kings...it's a lesser known Christopher Walken movie from 1997. It's about a bunch of guys, one of whom's sister has been kidnapped. To pay her ransom, the guys decide to kidnap a mob boss and force him to pay it. Stars Walken, Jay Mohr, Jeremy Sisto, and Denis Leary.

Sleepers...Adapted from my prolly my favourite book of all time, it's about 4 kids who accidentally injure a guy, and are sent to juvenile hall. While there, a group of 4 guards continually beat and rape them. Years later when they are all adults, they have an opportunity for payback. Stars Jason Patric, Brad Pitt, Robert De Niro, Kevin Bacon.

I just saw this movie on a local channel, but they never said what it was called. It insanely corny, but for some reason I couldn't stop watching.

It was thiis boxing movie. This kid moves to Chicago and gets knocked around. When he fights back, he kicks the crap out of these guys. This trainer at a gym sees him and recruits him. He makes friends with some black guy (I think Cuba Gooding Jr) and he winds up having to fight him. The guy who runs the whole gym is a real dickhead too. The main charachter fights him in the end and wins.

I'm going to go check IMDB for the name.

I Just Saw American Beauty and I can't believe how much I enjoyed that movie. All those times of seeing it at the rental place and not picking it up. I know all you people here said how great it is and whatnot, but I did not listen like I should have. Damn that was great.

Sleepers I watched when I was younger and got bored, but on a second watch I really enjoyed it as bizzare as it was in parts.

Of course American History X gets a plug here, I remember watching that at age 13 and being blown away, still am today.

And lastly Shawshank redemption, I hate it now due to repeated overwatching for English class but a truly great movie IMO.

Life is Beautiful is one of the greatest movie. It is such a powerful movie the characters generate alot of sympathy towards themselves. I greatly recommend it.

Fulltime Killer ( Foreign. Basically a movie obessed hitman tries to become Asia's #1 hitman by killing the current #1. It may sound cliche, but the movie is done REALLY well. Stars Andy Lau.... Speaking of which.

Infernal Affairs (also foreign.): It's the story about a yakuza member who goes undercover in the police for, while a cop goes undercover in the Yakuza. It's a race to discover the other mole first. Being remade for America by Scorsese. It's going to be called "The Departed." Huge cast, Leo Decaprio, Jack Nicholsan, Matt Damon, Dustin Hoffman, Mark Whalberg, Anthony Anderson, etc.

Oldboy (foreign): Words can't really do this movie justice. Just watch it.

Videodrome - James Woods is a cable operator who discovers a snuff television station. After watching it he begins to have hallucinations that blur the line of reality. I really liked it. Typical Cronenberg, so lots of gore and confusion... but also some substance behind it as well. The special effects hold up nicely to today's standards.

i just watched "Jarhead". it was great. also it gave a very accurate portrayal of the military.

and also, if you havn't seen these:

Deep Impact - 1998 - Asteroid movie that went largely un-noticed because it came out around the same time as Armageddon. this movie is way better than Armageddon.

Thunderheart - 1992 - written & produced by John Fusco, the same guy that wrote & produced both "Young Guns" flicks - stars Val Kilmer as an FBI agent sent to South Dakota to solve a murder on an Indian reservation. really good movie.

also, "Blood, Guts, Bullets, and Octane" IS better than "The Usual Suspects", and "The Stoned Age" IS better than "Dazed and Confused".

To Live & Die In L.A. - Action movie with William Petersen (dude from CSI) and Willem Dafoe as the bad guy. Revenge story, bloody, and a sweet car chase. Same director as The French Connection.

Akira - popular anime film probably most popular, really twisted confusing plot wit a lot of blood n whatnot. slightly humourus if you have the later version because the voices are dubbed in a very comical way, however in the original version they are more serious and generally is better. Really whack ending, have to figure out a few things for yourself, also one of the most disturbing anime scenes ever

Battle Royale - probably been reviewed here a bunch but i dunno, became one of my favorites. a bunch of japanese kids get sent to an island and have to kill each other off, ala last man standing type of thing, kind of lord of the flies-esque. Hilarious with english subtitles because like half of them are unfinished or translated wrong but it doesn't take away anything from the movie, just makes it more fun to watch.

Le Jetee - The basis of what the movie "12 Monkeys" is based on so if you liked that movie then you would like this. it is 20 minutes long, all in french, all still screen shots with english subtitles. It such a ridiculous mind warp. WW3 and disease above ground, so people are forced underground, really really good, dunno, cant describe well
