V for Vendetta is an Alan Moore comic book/Graphic Novel about a "hero" who strikes fear into the hearts of a government which more or less rules by fear. Apparently, the Wachowskis are really playing up theterror aspect, and people are whining that V is a terrorist.

V is a terrorist. One with a flair for theatrics.

Moore is most famous, perhaps, for Watchmen. Both are awesome books. He did League of Extraordinary Gentlemen too...I hope they do a better job than THAT.

I think it looks good, but this is what a user of IMDB had to say:

Gone is the comic's oppressive atmosphere- the film's Britain doesn't even seem to have spy cameras, while the comic seems to choke you on all sides. Gone are the social interactions between the main government agents that show corruption on the inside. Gone is the rising narrative tension as V's attacks pace along with the story, building up over time. The central villain of the story, initially, seems less like an oppressive government and more like a super-powered Fox News. Gone is the vicious cabaret. Gone is any mention of anarchy. This is a Kinder, Gentler V, and he fights a Kinder, Gentler Totalitarian Britain.

I was honestly surprised that the movie even dealt with Evey's imprisonment the same way that the comic did, by the time it got there. I was prepared for it to totally ruin her character's most important moment and take the last bits of V with it.

Politically, the story and atmosphere are loaded down with unsubtle knocks at the current American administration. This is not to say that such a message shouldn't be expressed- but it's not supposed to be "V for Vendetta"'s message. Here was a chance for a film to go after what should be the real target: A social system that would allow such poor representation and leadership in the first place. I just wonder why the filmmakers wanted to use ten-dollar cuss words all the way up to an R rating without bothering to give being actually subversive a try, given their source material. "Ideas are bulletproof," to be sure, but where are they?

Good acting and costuming, but otherwise a pretty sloppy film, and entirely unlike the original comic.

You probably have to be a subscriber to see it, but it looks at the scene that intros V and shows some of the storyboard work and shit. Pretty cool.

I've read the comic and have seen the film. For the first 1/3 of the movie I was unable to fully enjoy the film because I was comparing the two. Once I realized that the film was going a different way then the book I stopped comparing as much as possible. But knowing that Evey in the book was 15/16 years old and Portman is playing that part you have to know there would be some differences. Right from the start though you could tell they would change a lot, if you can get pass that you should be able to enjoy it somewhat.

Here's the thing:

V for Vendetta was a good movie. It covered the major points of the comic, though not always in the same fashion.

It's been a while since I read V, so stop me if I fuck something up.

The bitching about terrorism is bullshit. The Wachowskis made V more or less the same character he always was...Moore did nothing to hide the notion that V was a terrorist (Among other things). V does not justify terrorism any more than it used to--The major difference is that the Wachowskis are about as sutble as a brick to the head, and seem to think we won't get how deep they are unless they prodclaim it at every corner.

That being said, I liked most of what they added to the movie, and Itreated it as a separate entity. I was worried they'd really fuck it up, but only really cringed a couple of times.

the movie was well cast, largely well shot, and well thought out. I could do without the fucking heavyhanded "subtlety." Also, I would have liked to have seen (Minor spoilers, highlight to read) V actually ask for a Viking funeral as he dies...I thought that was a fucking cool bit that would have made the end make more sense.

Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter was not that bad. It still entertains me whenever I watch it. They did do a few obvious things wrong in the movie, like giving him a haircut/shaving the beard. It is one of those movies you just pop in for entertainment value.

I dunno, I loved the movie. It had its moments, definitely cringeworthy, but it also had some moments that were pretty fucking sweet. I iMaxed it up, so it basically bowled me over with the huge screen and massive bass during the explosions etc. I'm gonna have to watch it again to better get it I guess. But it was a massive mark-out film, especially the fact that they bring back a 25 year-old Mathilda for a modern-day Leon, I couldn't help but think about how much I loved "The Professional," and how it had a similar feel... Well derr uh erm, I'm too fried to sound anything near intelligent on the matter. I just know I marked out at the end. I love mob scenes in films, I guess. Strange Days used to be my favorite.

I don't normally like David Spade, but I loved the joke he made about guys going to the theaters to see NAtalie Portman shaved...However, the Fry rule of always ending his stories a sentence early was in effect.
