View Full Version : When did they "change" the Smackdown theme?

I know it's still Rise Up by DP and all, but the vocs and some of the arrangement are different than the previous version. Is this brand new? i normally don't watch the intro.

It's brand new. Last night was the first time they used it, and it pissed me off. I absolutely hated this version. I quite liked the previous one.
I think SmackDown!'s set needs a change. Sure, it was the RAW set with a bit of SmackDown! mixed in, but I think they need to lose the fist and the glass, get something more "classy" if you will.
I used to like the "oval" design they used to have for SmackDown!, and although completely moving the show back a few years may not be a wise move, I think channelling the earlier days of SmackDown! would be.
Have the set be a black version of the original SmackDown! set, and have a rectangular screen in the background, and have a titantron above it. Have lights built into the set, much like they were this week.
Have SmackDown!'s colour theme change from blue & silver/white to dark blue & black. SmackDown! needs to re-invent itself, in my opinion.

Just a slight tweak of the basic theme, but sounded a little less grungy, a little cleaner.

Except the vocals at the beginning (right until "I will rise up") which were much dirtier..

I miss the old rap version circa 2003-early 2004, with the video showing the wrestlers backstage.

I want it all...
That, and TBP were my fave themes.
I'm guessing this "remix" will be available on the new CD. I think it's called "fucked up entrances."

Smackdown is crap.
Just heard the theme after I re-watched it on tape, seems like a live kind of version, not too bad compared to the other one.

Yeah, I like Drowning Pool, so I don't much care for the new version. I almost wish they would go back to that real fast paced theme that was used in the early days of SmackDown before the Marilyn Manson version.

I liked the original SmackDown! theme. It was kind of generic, but it fit in with the WWE and the action on SmackDown!. Their newer themes from SmackDown! try to hard to make SmackDown! fit into them instead of the other way round.
I think they would be much better off paying some band to write a song which fits in with the SmackDown! style. Even call it "Laying the SmackDown!" or something.
I don't know why, but I really want to see SmackDown! get dark purple ropes. Have them lose the blue lights in the crowd as well. I hate that. It makes SmackDown! seem calm. I love the feel Velocity has. It feels darker, and it is pretty much the same set-up as SmackDown!. How would RAW look if it had red lights on in the crowd?

SmackDown has been a heap of crap ever since the brand split, with the exception of the period when Paul Heyman was booking, and even then the roster wasn't up to much. Even Heyman can't polish a turd. A total re-invention, and dare I say, name change, would not go amiss.

I love how people can turn the slight alteration of a theme into a rant about how shitty Smackdown is.

well it all ties in really, the theme/intro and stageset all set the tone for the rest of the show, it's the first impression to any new viewer. if the style of the show is stale then the rot sets in to the show as a whole, so.... having a crappy theme song just sets the standards for the shitty show that it precedes

its too bad, because they slowly change the set little by little every year
with the fist. They did that in 2001, and had the banners on the left hand side. They also had a ramp
in 2002, I dont know why, but they had black ring aprons and black ropes which looked really bad.
in 2003-2004, they added those lights on the ramp and went with the silver ring aprons and blue ropes. Looked better. And they also changed the theme song
in 2005-2006, they dont use a ramp anymore
but yeah, they need a drastic change. They dont change that drastically. Witht heRAW set, I remember they changed it in 2002 and gave a whole new theme and all that. Now it's changed a bit, since the Homecoming

I think SmackDown! also suffers from being labelled with the colour blue. It may not seem like much, but I honestly believe it.
RAW has red, which is passionate, violent, hot. SmackDown! has blue which is much calmer, placid and cold. Give SmackDown! a black & white layout.
A name change wouldn't be so bad, either. Nothing crap like "Shutdown" either. Even if they just dip into the past and call it Nitro.

you forget that SD! was hott in 2003
It has nothing to do with colours, moods, or bowls of potpourri

I do think the blue setup is kind of boring though. SD may have been hot back in 2003, but look at the talent they had then.

I hate the blue lights in the crowd. It hides the crowd. It's basically saying "Well the Smackdown crowds have been pretty calm compared to the Raw crowds. Let's cover them with blue lights."
I noticed the theme too. It's just a re-mix. I find the theme doesn't fit with the rest of Smackdown. Back in 2002 it would have fit, but Smackdown doesn't have a metal/hard rock feel to it. I'd like to think that something like the Foo Fighters could work. I don't know though. It seems like a good idea right before I go to bed.
i know this isn't a thred about smackdown sucking, but since that's what it has turned into, i agree that the blue-ness kills it, but imo, what kills smackdown more than anything else is that it isn't Live... for so many reasons that i can't be bothered to list

Smackdown needs a new theme. Something Hip Hop since they had all rock themes except one.

I know how you feel.
But are you ready for this? I actually LIKE the new spin on the theme. I liked the very beginning of the intro, where it shows the intro in Speedy Gonzalas style or something. I also like the guitar riff in it. And the singer sounds less gay now.
Now I just wish they would keep using Orton's Killswitch Engage theme instead of going back to his Mercy Drive one. Why did they do THAT to him?
