View Full Version : Salvaging John Cena

Rightio, John Cena's been getting booed. It has probably ruined him as a top face. A lot of people suggest turning him heel, which I agree with. What I have noticed about the WWE, though, is that they do little to change John Cena. They hear him getting booed, and they're way of trying to change that is by changing the heels.

This week on RAW, John Cena is facing Vince McMahon. This is obviously a ploy to try and get Cena heat for beating up the boss. You know what? I don't think it will work. Some fans LOVE Vince. If you look into the crowd, you can clearly see some people applaud McMahon. I don't think the crowd will be any less pro-heel. And it's not because they love the heel, it is because they hate the face. If Funaki were in the same position as Cena right now, he would be getting cheered like crazy.

Anyway, my suggestion is this. On RAW, Triple H cuts a promo on John Cena after Cena says Triple H is afraid of him. Triple H says he is afraid of Cena, because he shows all this potential. He beats the likes of Chris Jericho and Kurt Angle, he hoists a man almost as big as Andre the Giant over his head, walks around the ring and slams him on his back. Hogan could barely body slam a man that size. Then have Triple H shift directions and then say that Cena then shows a side which is pathetic. He walks like a retard, wrestles like a retard, talks like a retard, markets to retards, he's got perhaps more potential than anyone else to step foot in a WWE ring, EVER, but he doesn't live the lifestyle. He doesn't travel in the limos he should, or the helicopters he should. He doesn't abuse the women, money or power, he just keeps on going like there's still a mountain to climb. You're on top kid.

Anyway, at WrestleMania, Triple H comes out, and there is another of those big, long stalling until the entrance to make him seem more epic than he is. Cena's music never plays, though. John Cena walks down to the ring without and entrance, with the old green & white tights on that he wore when he faced Kurt Angle on SmackDown! in his debut in 2002.

Cena then WRESTLES Triple H. He shows us the talent we all expected him to have, and he takes Triple H to the limit psychologically. He doesn't play to the crowd, he doesn't do any of that Five Knuckle Shuffle shit, he just works Triple H to a pulp.

If John Cena did this, I don't think he would be as heavily booed. The fans hate the gimmick. They hate the rapper shit. I think if Cena wore wrestling attire, wrestled and wasn't so kid-based, the fans would have no reason to hate him.

If the WWE is so worried about losing John Cena as a top face, I think this is a scenario they should at least try. If John Cena still gets booed, THEN turn him heel. I think they need to feel out whether or not people hate Cena the performer or Cena the character. If they only hate the character, as soon as John Cena turns he is going to get cheered, anyway. If they hate the performer, well, this scenario doesn't make things any worse than they already are.

I like your idea Alienoid. It is true that Cena can be salvaged, but knowing Vince, won't happen. Sad, but true.

nah, they dont need to bring bact Spirit Squad Cena

All they need to do is try and get him back to his 2003 heel persona

Old school Cena

let's face it. if it wasn't for his merchandise sales, the big E would turn him heel in a second. he's better at it. if cena would have been a heel champ while playing up to a a face jericho, he'd be on top right now. then mania could either be heel v.s. heel (H and Cena.) which IMO only those two could pull off to a Tee. or be Hunter as a Strong-Yet Respected Face to Cena's heel. the whole Cena character dosn't work if he's supposed to be a Hardcore Thug who has the appeal of micky-fucking-mouse. we all know that.

the way we think: turn him heel, save his career.
the way E thinks: Milk him for all he's worth, bury him, do it again.

What they need to do is to have John Cena COMPLETELY explode. Not as a heel because I think he is a good face. They need to have him become MEAN. They need to have him become the kind of face that just doesn't care. Like Austin. He should become vicious as a face and then the trend to boo him will look stupid cause he will just be too awesome to be booed. Cena has what it takes.

Yeah Vermacelli, Cena has what it takes to be made or broken!

Cena as he is now doesn't appeal to anyone, a heel turn is needed even if it is to get him back to an anti-hero role. If he was to develop into it straight away it wouldn't work so well. It would in effect dull interest in Cena half a year too soon. Let's face it the way that he is put across has probably cost him about six months of momentum at least, well it would in anyone else but it seems Cena is the new Maivia.

Personally I can't stand Cena , not for his gimmick but because himself and Orton were hotshotted to the top too quickly. Perhaps that ist the answer to the problem at hand.

Weren't you against this in the Make or Break Thread? Cena going anti-hero would work, maybe. Some fans may still boo him. It's not just what Cena's doing outside the ring, it's what he's doing inside the ring.

I say the WWE needs to let Cena wrestle. You'd say Cena needs to stop being lazy.

Cena is lazy? Nonsense!

Well, I have an idea during Mania to save Cena as face, but it will never happen. Have Cena do a run in during the HBK/Vince match and absolutely destroy Vince. Then have Cena get on the mic and just lay into Vince and the WWE:

Cena promo- "I'm sick of this shit! You're gonna make millions off of me and this STUPID wigger gimmick, yet sell me out to your son in law in tonight's match? Fuck the writers, fuck the nepotism, fuck the politics and FUCK YOU VINCE! I'm gonna do things my way tonight and if you don't like it, fire me! Oh but that's right, you can't because my merchandise is a #1 seller. (Rips his shirt off and shoves it down Vince's throat.) HHH get your ass out here....RING THE FUCKING BELL!"

Cena would then put on the fight of his life in what would become an epic blood bath, but have him lose.

That, or just have him come out during Bret Hart's Hall of Fame induction and brutalize him on the mic for being a sell out. Then have him later retain the Title against HHH...thus sparking potentially one of the great heel turns/runs in WWE history.

Again, there's not a frozen cunt hair's chance in hell that either of these will happen....but a man can dream.

Naw. Cena is just terrible at his job. Very simple. He should've never been put in the position he's in. Not his fault though I guess...

I don't really like his character but he definitely should be main eventing.

Yeah, he did. I just noticed that when they showed the video on RAW. Funny, though, because I seem to associate the green & white with him more.

I would love to see Cena crash the Hall of Fame ceremony and just talk about how WrestleMania is his time, not the time of washed up "talent" like Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart & "The Freezer". Have Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart, The Fridge and everyone else get in the face of Cena, but they all back down. You could even have Cena get in Rey's face and say "Hey Rey, you're not Eddie!", it would be awesome, but the WWE would never do it.

You could have JR make excuses for Cena, saying this is a tough part of his career. Cena then does wha you suggested. That promo might be a little out there, but having Cena shoot all over the Vince/Triple H relationship would be good. Have him talk about how he toned it down to sell more merchandise for Vinnie, and now he's been sold out by Vince and presented to his son. No, not Shane.

Cena then beats Triple H cleanly with the F-U. Cena then gets on the mic and calls out Rey Mysterio, apologising for his actions at the Hall of Fame ceremony. Rey Mysterio comes out, and Cena says he is sorry, and he knows Rey tries as hard as he can to be Eddie Guerrero. Cena says that if Rey lost the mask and grew a mullet and actually won a few matches he might be able to pull it off. Cena then says that Rey lost his original title shot because he was "cheated" out of it by Randy Orton. Cena can point out the irony of someone riding Eddie Guerrero's legacy and complaining about being cheated.

Rey Mysterio & John Cena brawl, which eventually gets out of hand. Chris Benoit comes out with Chavo Guerrero to beat-down Cena. They all hit their signature maneuvers on Cena. We then go straight to the Triple Threat.

It would get Cena heat, which is what I think they need to do if they turn him heel. Just turning him's going to get him cheered.

This sounds pretty damn good Alienoid! :y:
In fact, it's so good that I can give a 100% guarantee that it'll never...EVER..happen (again). ;)

A fantasy of mine, that is impossible now...(damn you WWE) was to have 3MW come out during the HBK/Vince match and totally destroy HBK.
Vince-"Shawn, your career has lasted about 3 minutes too long."

Then during the Cena/HHH match, have Vince and 3MW crash the ring and take out the ref. Everyone would obviously think that Cena was going to get jumped. Vince would stare Cena down....and they would slowly smile at each other as 3MW proceed to fuck HHH up. Once HHH is laying on the canvas beaten to a bloody pulp, Cena does the "you can't see me" and FU's HHH. Vince gets the ref back in the ring and Cena pins HHH for the win.

Vince would then cut a promo about how Cena is the future of the WWE and HHH is a has been. He would then rip on the fans and thank them for making him even richer by buying Cena's merchandise. Vince then says "You were right John, they were stupid enough to believe your act was REAL!"
Mania would go off the air with Vince hugging Cena and raising his hand with the belt.

BUT.....obviously this will remain a fantasy.

They don't hate the "rapper" gimmick.
They hate that Cena has been made into the "Generic WWE Babyface".
Hell, I hate the "Generic WWE Babyface" mold.
The 5 move usin', damsel-in-distress savin', kick-punch-your-way-to-the-finisher "hero".

Cena has lost his edge.
That's why people BOO him.
Also, because the F-U kind of sucks as a finishing move in its current form, and Cena doesn't work the "brawler" style well. But mostly it's because of the lack of "fire" he used to have. The habitual line-stepping side to his character.

The Rock was losing his in 2001, and with Stone Cold back, that gave people more incentive to boo him. If you think that The Rock was booed at WMX7 because of the home crowd, you're only half right. Fans had been clamoring for The Rock to be less "nice" for months...and it never came. He was still funny, but he lost some of that edge. Rock should have gone heel when he came back during the Invasion... because a heel Rock >>>>>>> "heel" Stone Cold (if they really wanted Stone Cold's heel turn to work, they should have made him act like a "generic WWE babyface" ala Kurt Angle when he first came out).

Well, one of the things I first started to notice was way back when he first came to RAW and was feuding with Bischoff. He started to get boo's when he kept saying "Because REAL recognizes REAL." Being a wigger wannabe is not real and I think that's when he first started getting on my nerves too. WWE noticed this because they stopped having him say that. This proves that WWE knew there was a budding problem with their face champ, but did nothing to fix his character.

WWE Creative Genius: "Ok guys, the fans are starting to turn on Cena because he's not REAL. So let's make him more invincible, limit his move set, and take away his edge...that's gotta work!"

Makes sense right :?:
