If you read about the very last match, it states that beniot hurt his neck badly and we be gone for a year. but before that it states something about the finish supposed to have been diffrent if beniot didnt hurt his neck. i actually went to this event and Sumerslam 97, so im officaly the jynx of neck injuries to wrestlers any time i go to a PPV now. Was the finish supposed to be beniot winning the title?
I always thought that Benoit had injured his neck BEFORE the actual match at KOTR. I thought that the injury in the match was for storyline and match psychology purposes. So Benoit was out of the match allowing Austin to retain.
If this is true then you're not a jinx. If I'm wrong then maybe you go to any more live shows!
Benoit hurt his neck in the 4 team TLC on Smackdown. As far as I know, there was a 50-50 chance he was getting the world title had he not hurt his neck but the minute he did, they changed all plans.
Didn't Benoit hurt his neck worse in the match? Or was that Austin? I seem to remember someone coming out of it injured from the match, although I could be wrong.
(I was at both of those as well, maybe we're both jinxes. :'()

He was injured before the match, and s second superplex at KOTR made it worse.

01 was a rough time for injuries.
Benoit was not set to win the title. When the tag match happened on Raw, The plan was to go with Austin Vs. Jericho and HHH Vs. Benoit for King of the Ring.
Benoit was first hurt in the TLC Match the following Smackdown. They changed it to a three way, and apparently the idea, which was Paul Heyman's for the record, to elevate Benoit and Jericho was scrapped, as Vince got cold feet about going through with it. The post Mania X7 period of haberdash booking is what started the decline.
Benoit said that he started feeling pain in his neck at WM 17.

Oh well... I think the moment of sheer awesomeness of Benoit winning the title at WM20 was worth him not winning the title at KOTR.
It was just a shame it took him 4 years.
