Transfering files to a new hard drive?

How hard is it ? Im getting low on space and probally gonna go get a new one. How hard is it to trasnfer all the info from the old one to the new one?

If it's properly formatted and what not, it should be as easy as cut and paste. I do it all the time.

Although don't copy and paste program files/folders. Usually that'll fuck shit up in the registry.

The Hard drive I bought (80 gigs mainly for recording TV) came with software to copy an entire drive over to the new one.

How big is your old one, are you going to be removing it completely?

Current is a 15 gig and Ill probally be going to a 80 gig or possibly bigger.

There's a program, alohabob PC Relocator that you can use to transfer the whole thing to a new HDD, system files, settings, programs and all that jazz.

First set up the new drive, format, partition etc. and install your OS. Inatall the PC Relocator. Then set the new drive as a slave.
Then run your spyware, antivirus, chkdsk, and defrag the old drive. Install PC Locator and run it.
after it's run swap the old drive to slave, the new one to master, boot it up and see if anything got missed.
It works better than XPs file and settings transfer wizard and cutting and pasting because as mentioned, your registry isn't scrambled.

don't waste your time going to an 80. 200gb+ or nothing. They are cheap as chips now, stop being a tightass :D

also, your computer will have space for two hard drives, so assuming you're not removing one completely you'll be fine. if you are, just whip out the dvds
