ECW PPV Main Event Revealed?

04/05/2006 - An advertisement in the pay per view preview guide I received today lists ECW One Night Stand and it mentions "...watch as Rob van Dam challenges Triple H for the WWE Championship Belt." Also it lists a pay per view for Q4 known as Cyber Sunday. I guess they renovated the Taboo Tuesday pay per view. (Thanks to NY Sports Red)

Sounds gay ass. Triple H ain't no ECW wrestler. Plus, Triple H has all the stroke in the world to lay down the match to how he wants it to go down. (NOT RVD in ECW style match format).

Gay. No WWE title should be on the line at the ECW event, especially the world title defended by a wrestler who wasn't an ECW alumni.

Why not? I could get the non ECW worker, but I would think ECW fans would love if RVD won another company's World title at an ECW event.

ECW fans may be happy with the event, true ECW fans (like myself) would be really irritated, insulted and annoyed that a ECW reunion show (which should have only happened once, not been a once a year thing anyway) will revolve around a Triple H match.

That doesn't mean we have to like it. Hopefully the "WWE presents "ECW"" stint will fall flat on its ass. The only World Title I'd like to see RVD win at One Night Stand is the ECW World Heavyweight Championship. I dunno, have him challenge Sandman or something for the vacant title. Then he can bring the ECW Title to WWE and get top billing, leading to a unification match, where RVD beats Triple H for the WWE Championship, unifying the two belts.

If they do it right, this could be one of the greatest nights in not only WWE history, but post-ECW history as well.

Triple H is viewed by ECW and internet fans as the anti-Christ of professional wrestling. He's married to Vince McMahon's daughter, he's been a 10-time World Champion, he's buried legions of talented superstars (Kane, Jericho, RVD, Booker T, etc, etc), and his character is tired.

Rob Van Dam IS ECW. He's the epitome of what the company stood for, and he's arguable the most over star in the company's history. Yet, he never won the big one in ECW, and he's never won the big one in WWE.

For RVD to come out on RAW and say he's inacting his Money in the Bank clause at ECW One Night Stand 2 because he wants to win the big one in front of his hardcore fans, and he wants to dethrone the "king of kings" in front of his hardcore fans, and I think people will get behind him.

It's RVD (representing ECW) vs. Triple H (representing WWE) and if they do it right it could go over huge and put RVD in the main event tier forevermore.

As much as id love to see RVD as World Champion I just dont see it....I dont see it happening because RVD is a liability...He's more likely to get injured by the risks he takes in every match...And with him having the World Title around his waist he wouldnt be able to risk himself as much...

Remember, when Mike Awesome was ECW Champion and was leaving the company for WCW, it was decided upon to bring in Tazz to take the belt off of him. The problem with this is that Tazz was currently a WWE wrestler.

This wouldn't be tarnishing the ECW legacy by including a WWE Championship match on an ECW PPV. If anything, having a WWE wrestler who was formerly an ECW wrestler win the ECW Title should have been seen as more damaging and insulting to the ECW name, but it wasn't. It was done because it was entertaining. And a HHH/RVD match inside the ECW Arena in which RVD actually defeats The Game would certainly fall under the category of entertaining.

Nah, there's a difference there. Taz had still done quite a bit for ECW, and was still hugely over, and he had no problem coming back the next week or whenever it was and putting Dreamer over.

Doesn't change the fact that he was an active WWE wrestler beating a soon-to-be WCW wrestler for the ECW Title in the ECW arena.

Triple H has never touched ECW (he wasn't even at the arena for last years show) so the though process is what purpose does he have at a reunion show? That's like going to your rival high school's 20th reunion. The Tazz/Awesome situation was VERY different then this one. Both Tazz and Awesome were former ECW Main Eventers, Triple H is the poster child for the very thing ECW spent years rebeling against. Now I personally think if done right this could work out, I don't have a lot of faith in them doing it right, but it could be done...oh and it's not comparable to Tazz/Awesome.

The End for The One.

An active former ECW wrestler, who had done so much for the company and had beaten all of the company's greats already.

Doesn't change the fact that Triple H never competed in ECW a day in his life.

RVD has one of the best injury free careers in the business despite his 'style'. He's been wrestling for almost 15 years and been injured two times where he had to take significant time off. Once in 2000 and then last year.

You can't not push someone because they might get injured because they do certain moves. Triple H planted his foot and was out for ten months. 6 Months or so after Stone Cold broke his neck and was temporarily paralyzed in the middle of the ring, the WWF put THE title on him.

Plus, this is the WWE. They hardly give RVD enough time in the ring to do a rolling thunder before the ref whispers for him to 'come home' and go for the pin.

RVD needs to come out before hand and make a long heartfelt promo about how much ecw meant to him, what a great time in his life it was when he was in ecw and how much he would have like to win the ecw world title. And he should say if he won the ecw world title it would have been the highlight of his career but winning the world heavyweight title would be the next best thing.

I think it might be hard for the ecw crowd to boo RVD after doing something like that.

I think that the ECW should only have happened once, but because of last year's shit invasion angle, that there should be one more ECW PPV w/ no WWE involvment at all. Just the ECW guys, sending it off the right way. And then maybe everyone can move on.

I think the best environment for RVD to use his MITB is at the ECW pay per view. This gives him the automatic advantage of "hardcore" rules, vs. the handcuffed version of RVD we currently see on RAW. I like him facing HHH, but I like the idea of Cena even more. I think Cena can go balls out athletically in an ECW style match more than HHH, thus making a better match. Plus, I know ECW fans probably despise HHH for what he represents a whole hell of alot...BUT...how great would it be for Super-Cena's (the most hated man in wrestling) reign come to an end in the house of ECW to it's own most legendary performer, RVD. ECW fans have been screaming for "respect" for RVD forever and what better way to do it than this? Even better, have him come out to his old ECW intro (Pantera's "Walk") to hammer this point home. And imagine the heat on Cena when he comes to the ring with a group of Security guards/entourage. The atomsphere would possibly be unlike anything we've ever seen.

As an RVD/ECW fan, this would be the best way personally for me to see RVD win his first WWE Title. Beating Rey doesn't mean shit. That would just prove that WWE still doesn't view RVD as being to the level of HHH/Cena, so it would accomplish nothing. Besides, RVD beating Rey would mean him moving to Smackdown then right? How is that better for RVD then?

I think as long as the match is a good ECW match it doesn't matter who is in it. If ECW would have survived and beat WCW and WWE (I know how impossible this is) then maybe Tripple H would have gone there and wrestled. Anyone could be part of any Group, it's not about the people as much as the wrestling. Of course the people make the wrestling and the people should be glorified as ECW is no longer around. But that doesn't mean that a good wrestler (triple H) and the man who had arguably the greatest match of all time (RVD V. Jerry Lynn Living Dangerously 99) can't put on a good ECW style match.
