View Full Version : Carlito as a face

I'm a fan of Carlito's work in general, but on Raw when he was having that little exchange with Chris Masters, I got this sinking feeling that I always get once a great heel turns face and he loses his appeal. It's not his fault or anything, and it's really nobody's fault that it happens to (besides the fans, I guess), but what do you think are the chances that this kind of thing will happen with Carlito? You know, the same thing that happened to Cena, basically.

It depends on how much they change his gimmick. They completely changed Cena's gimmick. They can still keep Carlito in his basic heel gimmick and not tone him down and keep him over.

He could be a great face, but I think he should stay heel.

Carlito's okay at the moment. As long as they keep him a face who still has heel characteristics like when he used the chair on Masters.

Cena was like that at first because he used his chain to win matches, but now he has no heel in him whatsoever.

He's gotta keep with the apple spitting. I totally think they botched his face turn. As predictable as it would've been, WHENEVER he turned face, it should've been via spitting in the face...of the "uncool" heel he was about to feud with. At least that's what I think.:o

Carlito doesn't seem like a true face.
It only looks that way because he's facing Mr. "X-Pac Heat 2006" Chris Masters.

Didn't they try that? It seemed like it was calling for an apple, but nobody gave him one, so he just spit regular in Masters' face.

Shoulda been more out of nowhere, though. (I know, I'm picky, and no one may share this thought.)

Carlito has done the apple spit so many times, that I really don't think any situation possible could have made it 'out of nowhere', if you know how I mean.

The problem is that whenever WWE turn a heel face, they suddenly change his character so hes more 'good' when they should just stick with what got him over.

saying that they did a good job with eddie when he was champ and the whole 'lie, cheat and steal thing'

The only wrestler I can remember that got over as a face with a 100% heel character was Austin. He acted like a heel should, but he was the biggest face in the company.

X-Pac heat 2006 goes to John Cena. Anyone with Testosterone in their system seems to want him off the screen.

Well, in or der to get a guy over as a total face, you still need to change them somewhat. The problem is people like Orton and Cena jumped immediately to a babyface.

I like Carlito being more the de facto face like Kane was. Back when he was fueding with Edge, he was the good guy more because he was less evil (Go figure).

Tammy Sytch's comments about Carlito on her RF Video shoot turned me completely against him. Which I never really cared much for him anyway now I like him even less. But like most people have said, if he keeps some of the heel characteristics such as the apple spitting and such then the face turn could work. Just depends on what kind of feuds they book him in after the Chris Masters thing.

What? Did Carlito not want to give her any drugs or booze in exchange for sexual favors?

Or did he eat the last doughnut?

She talks about her and Chris spending time working for Carlos Colon and some other promoter in Puerto Rico. She said that Carlito would always talk about how he didn't like the business and how he didn't want to be a wrestler and that he only did it because his father wanted him to do it. She said his younger brother Eddie Colon is the one with the passion and love for the business. Carlito just doesn't really give a shit about wrestling. No love, no passion, no real desire. Just does it to please his father. Personally, I can't respect a worker who doesn't love the business and have the passion to do it. It's ironic though, that he's the one in WWE yet Eddie is still in Puerto Rico. I've heard from many sources besides Tammy that Eddie is a much better worker than Carly.

IF that's true, I have two things to say.

A. How long ago was that? People, and their ideas, change.

B. I know a lot of people who aren't uberly thrilled with their job. It doesn't mean they aren't damn good at it.

Seriously, since Carly isn't really a super character, they should not make him a 'good guy'. Keep him exactly as is, but just have him pander to crowd, just like Eddie did. Not the same cheats as Eddie, of course. But...just have audience aware that Carlito is as Carlito does. Have him stop insulting the crowd so much, maybe, but don't let him start blowing the crowd like a regular face. We need to keep the personality going, or his character will lose it's definition.

Kane Knight

IT'd work. Carlito already gets over doing heelsih things. not on Eddie's level, but he does.

Exactly. Besides, we don't want to risk the appearance of 'replacing Eddie', because it might seem like they were trying to get us to forget him, and that's just another 18 months of Eddie-based storyline.

The good thing about Carlito is that he need not change his character around that much to be face. All he needs to do is keep saying/doing the same things he's been doing... except he should direct it at heels (i.e. Masters).

He's basically just a guy who will tell you that you suck, you're not cool, and spit in your face, and the crowd loved it. He doesn't have to stop doing any of those things: he only needs to change who he does it to.

And he's been improving leaps and bounds in the ring over the past few months, which is a huge plus in his favor.

I dunno...that "Cena Heat" is a little different than "X-Pac Heat"... because it's split so far down the middle. It's similar, but this phenomenon is closer to a form of "Rocky Maivia Heat" than "X-Pac"... and seemingly unique to Cena.

Then again, whatever heat Masters gets is in no way comparable to Cena... but if Masters gets heat, it's certainly not because of his in-ring antics (ala JBL after he was given free reign on the mic, Booker T presently, Randy Orton, etc)

I've heard a similar story to this, but it talked about how Carlito didn't originally want to become a wrestler or something. He was going after some other role, if I remember correctly, and he wrestled under the wishes of his father and found out he loved it. And if he doesn't love it, he still does it damn well.

Eddie Colon will eventually get signed to the WWE. I am sure of it. Whether or not we see 'Lito and Eddie team or feud really depends on how much success The Cool One has had since then.

Carlito has the best chance of getting over as a face if he plays the same role, but is allow to use more of his natural charisma. Great babyfaces like The Rock could say a lot of stupid things, yet make them seemingly the greatest thing ever by just pumping themselves into it. Carlito needs to be able to cut promos on his specific opponents, and be given free reign over what he says. Maybe something about how his opponent is not worthy of being spat in the face by the coolest superstar since Waylon Mercy?

Carlito's size makes his a great sympathetic babyface, but he needs to really develop a strong finishing move. I don't think the Reverse Swinging Neckbreaker will get it done. The Figure Four? It's what he used in Puerto Rico. That combined with the Figure Four would get things done.

I believe Carlito's character should play out like a mixture between The Rock and Eddie Guerrero. Carlito could be truly egotistical to assume the entire world is in love with him, and he has the ring prowess to win via nefarious means.

At Backlash, the best plan of action for the Carlito vs. Chris Masters match is for Carlito to be dominated due to Masters' power, then make a comeback and roll Masters up and grab the ropes for the win. Then after the match have him interviewed by Todd Grisham and have Carlito say that the only reason Masters got the upper-hand was because Carlito let him, so Chris Masters and both his fans wouldn't feel so bad.

Basicallly have Carlito land on both his feet, making every situation into one that favours him and makes him look even better than he did. Just really arrogant stuff. It would work.

The only way I'd want to see Carlito use the Figure 4 is if he ran a program w/ Flair where he sort of became the protege "Dirtiest Player in the Game." I don't want to see Carlito have a "I respect you" spiel with Flair, just something like them competing to see who fights dirtier, where Flair ultimately acknowledges Carlito as the future dirtiest player.

I'm fine with his Spinning reverse neckbreaker though, as it looks pretty slick.

That it is. I wouldn't mind that being his finisher, but I'd prefer they keep it as a signature move, as people seem to be lacking them these days.

Maybe they could use his elevated complete shot? (Once again, I'd say keep that a signature though.)
