View Full Version : Paul Burchill on Velocity...

Was I the only one who sensed something in terms of crowd reaction in his match with Nunzio. I know Burchill is from England, but there is something else there, I can feel it.

They showed two girls with signs after the match, one of them said "pirate guy rox my sox", or something of the like. I may be taking that sign out of context, but does anyone else feel a certain level of "mainstream" potential for Paul Burchill?

The poor guy just needs to stop killing himself with The C4. I love the move and all, but I don't know if its just he's nervous, or if it's because it's become an "out-of-nowhere" move, but it's looked a bit sloppy since he killed John Xavier with it the first time he busted it out in the WWE.

I really think the WWE may be onto something with Paul Burchill's gimmick after watching Velocity. Sure, I'm jumping the gun and it was probably just a homecountry reception, but I really hope Burchill the best, and if his crowd reactions keep up, I see him being a major player in the WWE with the pirate gimmick. I don't know, I just sensed something...extra. Hopefully this develops and "Surrey Scurvey" becomes a pandemic.

In America, people are holding up Birchill signs AND know his name.

They didn't even bill him from being from England. Shows how much they care.

I still claim he needs a crew of pirates, and he needs to go steal some booty.

They bill him as from the Virgin Islands because of his pirate gimmick. And I've said this before, and I'll say it again. I think Paul Burchill could become huge. Ignore my fanboyism for him in my avatar to the left. I honestly think he has the potential to be a main-eventer. The crowd is really into him.

He's got the moves. He's not huge, but he's a decent size (especially now that Mysterio's got the belt). He's not afraid of the mic. He has charisma.

He could be WHC.

I think Burchill is great, not just because his hometown is about 10 minutes from mine. But also because he is very talented, he has an impressive move-set, good charisma, a good look...and he's a pirate :D.

I agree with WWKD, he needs a pirate crew to run around causing havoc with him

If he is going to ever become WHC, he will have to drop this pirate gimmick and turn heel i reckon, for now though, the gimmick is working well so obviously they should keep him in it.

I've been impressed with Burchill. The guy's definitely a fine wrestler who can mix up styles, and I hope they give him a relatively free reign when he wrestles. I think he could be a main eventer eventually, tho not necessarily as a pirate.

The pirate gimmick is entertaining for a short-term deal, but if you use the pirate gimmick as a gateway to turning Burchill heel, then eventually phase out the pirate gimmick, THEN you'll have a main-event heel.

I love how they're approaching this. Unlike the Boogeyman, he's just a guy who likes pirates and is having fun. He gets a sword, a cool entrance, cool music, and people are enjoying it. I'm really enjoying it.

It would be awesome if Burchill made Regal dress as a pirate. Regal would go on and on about how much he hated it, and how stupid he looks. Then when no one is around, he looks in the mirror, smiles, and does a small pirate impression. He goes out to the ring, pretends to not have fun, but goes back to the locker room when no one is around to enjoy being a pirate.

Eventually Burchill would walk in on him, Regal would deny enjoying it... but eventually admits (maybe a couple of shows) he loves it and BAM! We have a sweet tag team for a couple of months.

I'm liking the idea. It could be the start of the much-talked-about pirate stable. :D

He could be an effective face while dropping the pirate gimmick too. It seems Smackdown has so many heels right now (Though obviously most are not ME-ing) that it seems a shame to turn another guy heel.

That's like saying that the WWE won't misuse ECW...
