Wow.

Any bad thought about this movie has gone, this looks much better than X-Men 3 is turning out.

Like I needed a trailer to get me tattooing the release date on my ass. I'm so there it's sad. Superman T-Shirt and all.

Kevin Spacey rules, BTW.

Come on, that strikes me as an awesome casting job.

So, does this actually take place after the previous movies, or what?

It takes place after II, but ignores 3 and 4.

It picks up where Superman II left off, with Kal-El coming back to Earth after a 5 year absence. Thankfully, the movie pretends camp-o-rama atrocities Superman 3 and 4 never existed.

Also, Kevin Spacey looks and sounds incredible as Luthor. This movie is going to rock.

DC's movie plan > Marvel's movie plan, at the moment.

I have to agree. both on Spacey and on DC/Marvel.

I wasn't saying Spacey wouldn't be a good Lex, just that him being Lex was odd.

Surely, even you could admit that Spacey wouldn't be the logical first choice to play Lex Luthor.

Also, I'm wondering if the movie will follow more closely to the Smallville series or if they will go by the comics[Marvel]?

I'm not sure WHO I'd cast as Luther though.

Superman is DC, not Marvel.

It's following the comics to a certain extent. There are a number of scenes that are straight out of Superman comics, not least of which the one where he saves the crashing plane.

Hasn't Superman saved a plane explicitly in every incarnation of Superman? Or is it very specific?

To be honest, after 4 movies, a television show, and some video games. They have the guts to make ANOTHER Superman movie. I'd much rather see Kevin Spacey come back and kick ass as Kaiser Soze.

Yeah, it's more an homage to the fact he's done it so much than a specific scene. From Wizard Magazine:

With high-tech and high-end CGI and special effects, expect to see Superman take to the skies to save a plummeting space shuttle from certain doom in the new film. "I want someone to go and look into how many times Superman has rescued an airplane, how many times Superman has stopped a flood or something," adds [Dan] Harris. "Nothing is taken directly from the books, but everything gels with the comics."

-------------------

So, for example, there's a scene in which the Daily Planet globe is involved in a disaster, which appeared in an issue 8-10 months ago, but it wasn't deliberately based on that.

Kane Knight

Yeah, that's what I was wondering.

"Go ahead, say it..."

"You're insane."

"No, no; the other one. Go ahead say it..."

"Superman's never-"

"WROOOONG!!!!!"

Not an exact quote, but a funny line.
