If I buy an imported DS Lite, it has absolutely no drawbacks right? They are region free and still uses AC power. Just making sure...please...someone confirm me on this.

I know they're region free but I'm not sure if the adapters would have different feeds into the system itself or not. If they're the same size, you can buy one or use a GBA AC adapter (as they're the same).

Xero

That, of course, assumes that they don't change the adapter size from the first DS.

I just don't have any idea why I should wait. It would only cost me the extra shipping cost, which isn't all that bad. Like an extra 25 bucks.

Yeah, from what I've been told from people who've got it, the plug is the same to jack into a US wall.

Plus, they're only gonna put out white in the states. I'm tempted to order one myself.

Aside from being 1/3 smaller and the backlight settings, what is the extra benefit over the regular DS?

Mike the Metal Ed

Smaller, brighter backlight with 3 settings, longer stylus with a longer nib, longer battery life even on maximum brightness.

So it's pretty non-essential if you already have a DS, but it does feature some nice improvements.

Aside from being 1/3 smaller and the backlight settings, what is the extra benefit over the regular DS?

increased durability (Including the screen, evidently), Stylus which doesn't require my man-ape hands to cover the screen in order to use it (And place to store it), and enhanced battery life (Which is esspecially good for wifi and games that are battery-intensive even when offline, like Advance Wars).

Well nevermind about importing. It comes out in the US in a month for 129.99, but only in white.

That is so worth it though. I'd pay 230 to import it right now.

What colors are coming out elsewhere?

Boomer
05-04-2006, 12:56 PM
You have two other shades of blue in Japan, which came out a week after original release.

One one hand, I love how Nintendo gives you choices with colours. On the other hand, I hate it because I always want a different colour than the one I got. They should just make a black DS.

Kane Knight
05-04-2006, 04:47 PM
They'll make a black oen in like a year.

Funky Fly
05-04-2006, 05:49 PM
They should do a paint store dealy where you create the color you want, they blend paints till they get it, you order it and they send it to you.

Funky Fly

Also, added battery life and durability = ratings, although I've never had a problem with that so far. I spent an entire day flying last Christmas and spent a good chunk of time playing my DS (inbetween the running from gate to gate and bag checking and whatnot) and it was still in the green when I arrived.

What game were you playing? Advance Wars lasts 4-6 hours, and I shudder to think what playing wireless does to that. Nanostray and a few of the newer games also do this. I think AC:WW is actually battery intensive with or without the WFC, but games like Super Mario 64 and such last for like 14 hours.

Mario & Luigi: Partners In Time. Also played a little Mario Power Tennis.

I can't stop playing Animal Crossing: Wild World. It uses the battery up more quickly than any other game I've played for my DS.

I was reading about the DS Lite. Apparently the average playing time on the brightest setting is 5-8 hours.

The things looking mighty awesome though. They have a dark navy blue, but why not a black? Come on.

Stupid only white in North America. I want one when it comes out, but don't want the white one.

Just make a freaking black one right now. Either that or one that looks like the old school NES controller. Black d-pad, red buttons, grey colour. I'd buy it.

As nice as a DSL would be, I'm at least waiting for a price drop and a better color. This is also the last time I buy a Nintendo handheld first gen.

I think 130 is terribly reasonable compared to the PSP. But I can understand the color.

Well, first off, I'm not comparing it to the PSP. I have no interest in the PSP. I will likely never own one, and it's the first time I've never felt like I was missing out on something good.

More importantly, I already own an NDS.

I lost my DS 3 days ago in a movie theatre so I need to buy a new one. The original DS was awesome, but the DS Lite sounds awesomer. I'd rather not get a white one, but I don't really have a choice. If I still had my original DS I could wait until the coloured DSes make their way into North America.

Does anyone have any idea or know when the coloured DSes should be in North America?

Well if you already own one...lol...that completely changes my argument. I had no idea you already were a proud owner of an NDS. Even for the things they have changed...there is NO reason to buy a DSLite if you already have a NDS.

Boomer

I would imagine they may wait a little while. I'm not even sure what colors they are going to bring...considering they are saying that certain countries get exclusive colors.

It should be released on June 11th in Canada. I think it might be the same date in the states too.

The white isn't that bad. I saw a picture of it for an upcoming flyer, and it looks pretty nice. I would just prefer a black one.

Most places are saying 12 hours on brightest.

The instuction booklet for it says it averages 5-8 hours on the brightest setting. Some games might last up to 12 though, but I'm not too sure on that. There are four brightness settings. The default setting is only the second brightness and I was wowed with it's brightness and colourfulness (I didn't know it wasn't the brightest setting until a few hours after I played around with some games). You don't really need to use the brightest setting. The second highest is already brghter and cripser than the original DS (And there's nothing wrong with the original DS' sceen).

Boomer

I don't think I could possibly stare at the DS Lite on the highest brightness setting.

PapaGeorgio

Got me one. I turned mine bright setting level to 2nd lowest. Although when I went upstairs with it in a sunny/glarry room it was difficult to see. Same with when I was outside with it. But was in the middle of a game so didn't feel like restarting to change level.

If anyone wants to play online I have Animal Crossing and Tetris DS. Just let me know, don't have my friend codes off hand.

ARG and YAY! Black and pink DS Lites are available today or tomorrow. The official date is tomorrow, I think. I already have a white, but an buying a black becuase it looks really awesome. I had to exchange my original Lite for a new one so it's only about a month a half old so I can sell it for some good money.

Arg.

Why's the black only just come out over there? It's been out in the UK for a while.

It's also a nightmarish fingerprint magnet. But at least it looks cool.

It's a way to boost sales. Release new version of system, DS sales go back up. Release new colours later, and the stupid fucks who bought a white but wanted a black will buy it.

I just traded in my launch DS for a black. Normally, I don't trade systems, but this is really leaps and bounds over the original in terms of playability.

Brighter screen works in daylight and such
More vivid colours
More comfortable feel (Even to my huge Wendigo-hands)
I don't know if this is normal, but my touch screen seems more responsive.I find the DSL to have a significant advantage, though mostly just because my hands feel better playing it and I like being able to turn up the brightness.

Until you actually play a DS Lite for a while you'll be completely happy with your regular DS.

My girlfriend had a regular DS for a while and didn't want a DS Lite. She was perfectly happy with her original and had no need for a DS Lite. I bought a black one, so I gave my girlfriend my white DS Lite (Free for the price of $110). Now she's in love with her new DS Lite and the improvements Nintendo made with it.

It's similar to going black and never going back. If you've never gone black, you have no idea how freaking sweet it is... therefore you have no interest in it. But once you do you'll never want to go back.

If you play your DS a lot, I'd reccommend a DS Lite. The battery life is longer and takes less time to charge. Plus pretty much everything about it is an improvement from the original DS. I had no problems at all when I had an original DS. If you have the extra $$$ I'd say to really look into one.

* Buttons feel better
* power switch is located in a better spot
* Same with start and select
* screens are way brigther and you don't need to look at them at one specific angle to see well (The only complaint I had when I had an original DS was how you had to have the screens at a certain angle to see well)
* stylus is thicker and longer and makes a big difference. Feels like a small pen rather than a thick toothpick.
* touch screen is more respnsive and takes a lot to scratch.
* stylus is easier move around and stop on the touch screen

Funky Fly
09-16-2006, 04:31 PM
I see how it's better, BUT the problem is that I can't justif spending another $110 on something that's still just as good.

Kane Knight
09-17-2006, 10:46 AM
Select, Start and Power are in horrible places. They should never have moved the power switch outside in such a fashion that you can accidentally turn it off while the DS is in sleep move.

Funky Fly

I see. So it's not all greatness. Anyway, I'm not gonna bother upgrading unless

a. The DS Lite fairy takes pity on me and I get one free.

b. Mine breaks and I happen to have some extra cash laying about.

c. I come into a shitload of money at random.
