I was at a Virgin Megastore last week and found this fantastic book titled Here, There and Everywhere - The 100 Best Beatles Songs by Stephen J. Spignesi and Michael Lewis. I know I'm not the only Fab Four mark on these boards, so I thought I'd post their list to see if it might spark some interesting discussion. The back of the book has an index of all 206 original Beatles recordings, and looking at it, I realized I wasn't as close to having the whole collection as I thought I was. I have all twelve of the original Beatles albums plus the red and blue albums, but there's a ton of stuff that I still don't have. So, now I'm trying to find friends of mine who have the Anthology or the soundtrack to Yellow Submarine (I already "borrowed" Past Masters from my parents last time I was at their place).

I'm still probably about 15-20 songs shy. Stupid prolific geniuses...

So, let the debate begin!

206 recordings eh? I have...157. No idea where to even find the rest of those tbh.

I could never make a top Beatles songs list in order, let alone a top 100 list.

Sorry for another post, but no Got To Get You Into My Life or I Want To Tell You or Run For Your Life? Come on.

Pretty respectable list.

Let It Be definitely should not be #3 though. I'd switch it with Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds.

Didn't notice Fool On The Hill wasn't on it. Definitely better than a lot of those songs.

I just counted, and I have 180 of the 206 songs. I'm just lacking:

All Things Must Pass, All Together Now, Cayenne, Come And Get It, Cry For A Shadow, Free As A Bird, Hello Little Girl, Hey Bulldog, If You've Got Trouble, I'll Be On My Way, In Spite Of All The Danger, It's All Too Much, Junk, Like Dreamers Do, Los Paranoias, Love Of The Loved, Not Guilty, Only A Northern Song, Real Love, Step Inside Love, Teddy Boy, That Means A Lot, 12-Bar Original, What's The New Mary Jane, You Know What To Do, and You'll Be Mine.

And I have no idea where to find most of those. I know a few are on Anthology, and a few more are on the Yellow Submarine soundtrack, but a bunch of the rest I'd never even heard of before I got the book. Guess I get to do some digging.

I have all of them I am pretty sure. I would check but I'm at work.

There's no way I could make this list or even argue with it. Way to many good songs. I mean everyone's got there personal fav's. Mine that are a little lower on that list are

With a Little Help from your friends and We Can Work it Out. Elenor Rigby would be in my top 3.

As much as I love "With A Little Help From My Friends" I still have to say I like Joe Cocker's version (aka the Wonder Years theme) more.

yea, it's better. I could be biased because Wonder Years is my fav show ever, but still an awesome cover.

Eleanor Rigby and Paperback writer are their best songs.

Boooooooo

No Mr. Moonlight.

Mr. Moonlight isn't a Beatles song. It's a cover. That's why there's also no "Twist & Shout," "Please Mister Postman," or "Money (That's What I Want)."

They only used songs that were Beatles originals.

Eleanor Rigby and Paperback writer are their best songs.

Both are in my top five. Without putting too much thought into it, my top five would probably be:

1) Eleanor Rigby
2) In My Life
3) All My Loving
4) While My Guitar Gently Weeps
5) Paperback Writer

Once I get those last 26 songs, I'll do something more in-depth, but those are my five faves atm.

Still, it's an awesome cover then.

It is. You could put together a killer compilation CD of just their covers.

Okay, just borrowed a copy of Anthology and ripped a bunch more songs. So, now I only need five songs to have the complete collection:

All Together Now
Hey Bulldog
I'll Be On My Way
It's All Too Much
Love Of The Loved

Some of those are on the Yellow Submarine "songtrack." Not sure about the others. Although, I think I have enough now where I can start to work on my list. If I can track those songs down and it turns out they warrant a ranking, I'll work them in later.

Yeah Eleanor Rigby deserves to be higher, and switch Let it Be and In My Life. Other than that it's a pretty sweet list.

Yeah just tried to do my own top 10 but it is impossible. Like 92375 songs I want to put in it.

A Day in the Life was my fav song forever though, but I also was in love with Eleanor Rigby too for a while. I would prolly put those top 2. Either I am the Walrus or Strawberry Fields Forever @ #3 I guess.

God, A Day In The Life is so ridiculously good I can't even believe it. It is like one of those times again, when something fits so perfectly with my taste that it just makes me mad happy that things like it actually exist. Like finding your soul mate or something, but with a song.

Eleanor Rigby is my favorite Beatles song by far. I don't see how you can make a list of the best Beatles songs in order though. It's pretty much opinion.

Pretty solid list. Obviously everyone has their own personal taste and mine is different but Day in the Life is amazing. In conclusion the Beatles are fantastic.
