Dave Meltzer reports that Mark Henry's WWE contract has been extended. Henry signed a 10 year contract with the WWE back in 1996 after he competed in the Olympics for $1 million dollars a year. Henry's new deal is not guarenteed and lasts through 2007. His money has been cut down from $1 million a year dollars to $300,000 a year.

He was making a million a year? Okay, I can understand Vince giving him a long contract, thinking he might possibly be big. But wtf..

Mark Henry hasn't been awful since he's returned. I almost feel sorry for the guy. I really hope they've thought this through, though. A decision closer to when his contract actually expires may have been better. Knowing the WWE's luck, Henry will be injured come Summerslam.

Meh.. I saw it coming.
But im still not happy about it.
Was I the only one who read "10 year contract" and thought that was for the re-signing?

If only the Ruse Report hadn't done a "Mark Henry had injured his 100th wrestler" joke.

You weren't. I couldn't believe it though, and immediately re-read it.

Meltzer hasn't reported this I'm certain. Plus he wasn't making one million a year, but rather $250,000

The contract included bonuses. If he injures more than 3 wrestlers a year, he gets an extra 100 grand. Five wrestlers and that doubles.
Fortunately, one of the restricted activities that could void the contract IS eating Cruiserweights. Vince wants to protect Rey Mysterio so he can milk him even more.

He's been sitting on his ass for like 2 thirds of his WWE contract, and he was on $1m a year.

If Vince was smart, he'd send him to TNA. Half the roster would be gone by September.

Oh and maybe it's my imagination, but Henry DID sign the 10 year/10 million contract back in 1996, but then in 1999 (or maybe it was 2000) he was forced to resign a different contract...and even if I am remembering something that never happened, he was released from his contract in 2001 or something...surley I am not the only one who remembers this stuff?
The "10 Million Dollar Contract" was actually a deal for $2.5 million over 10 years guaranteed, meaning $250,000 a year, which is why I doubted this being true - people presenting false info.
For the record, I just emailed Meltz, and his reply was - "hsmeltzer@juno.com - I don't know anything about it. It may be true, but people in WWE that I asked don't know about it."
And as this wasn't in an Observer or on the site, and it was reported as coming from him, this story is total bullshit.

Mark Henry has improved somewhat since his last WWE run. However, the human injury machine needs to be taught proper protection techniques before getting in another major feud......
--The latest fake news item credited to me is WWE signing Mark Henry to a new contract. I don't know that they haven't, but having checked around, nobody there seems to know anything about it and I haven't reported it.

No, I remember hearing that, too. The release, that is. That's why it surprised me when he showed up with Teddy Long and the Black Attack.

Mark Henry was making $1 million dollars a year? I don't remember him being anywhere near a WWF or WWE ring for the years of 1996, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, and with an exception of a couple of months in 2004 he was out all year. Not too mention he just returned very late in 2005. He was out of action for the better part of 7 years.
Yes, I do realize he may have been training and doing shit in OVW but he never did shit all for the MAIN ROSTER.
For crying out loud...NO, he was NOT making a million a year.
Kane Knight

Yes he was. I've read it somewhere before. Case. Closed.
So was Big Show.
I've heard that's why he was in so many shit angles. They wanted him to quit.
I'm afraid to know how much and how long Vince gave Kahli...
Kane Knight
05-10-2006, 10:44 PM
200,000,000 a year.
Unfortunately, that's in his native Rubles or whatever they're called.
Kahli: OOO PAHLA DOOLAH KALA FIVE MILON DOLERS!
Vince: Four...
Kahli: FIVE MILION UGH PUH LA!
Vince: FINE!
Kahli: UGAHA TANK U!
*Kahli walks out*
Vince: JESUS! Can't that idioit speak English?
Kahli: Okay Shawn, you'll get 25%...
Daivari:
Kane Knight

More like
Vince: Mark Henry had limited charisma and no wrestling skills, and he was worth a million a year. Khali has no wrestling skills, charisma, or English skills, that's three times the value! Three million a year!
Eric: Did somebody say...Three Minutes?
Vince: For the last time, shut up and finish cleaning the toilet!
Big Show is on a Ten Year, 1 Million a Year deal.
Henry is a Ten Year, $250,000 a year deal. The announced it as "the ten million dollar deal" when it really wasn't. It's $2.5 million over ten years. They put him in crappy angle because the money is guaranteed, meaning if they fire him they have to pay him anyway. If he quits, then they don't.

1996- They signed him that year and I dont remember seeing him.
1997- He was with the Nation in very late 97
2000- He wrestled for about a month at the beginning
2001- I didnt see him at all
2002-He actually did wrestle on SmackDown as a face.
2003- He returned in late 2003 with Teddy Long and Rodney Mack.
2004- He only wrestled for a month and a half.
So out of his ten year contract, he only wrestled 2 full years.
He was training in '96 I would assume.

Yeah..he was, I remember him along with Val Venis, Edge and others being shown all training in 96 in one of my old WWE magazines
Ah yes, their days before porn, cheating and injuring.
