I know this is going to be overlooked in the E3 thread (http://www.tpww.net/forums/showthread.php?p=1289310) so I will post it here and direct your attention to that thread. I will be watching all the conferences and will be happy to do live updates of them as long as this forum doesn't get flooded with new topics.

These are lower then expected and still a steal for a Blu-Ray drive. While that probably won't be enough to push most of you over at first, once they start getting used it will most likely be the best thing for your money.

You've got to remember that they'll also selling this as an Entertainment system, so the bigger the hard drive, the more you can download (movies, games, etc).

I'm surprised no one is complaining about the price. Also, note the differences in the 20 GB PS3 for those people thinking about it. It doesn't come with built in Wifi and loses alot of the extra connections in the back.

I won't be getting one, but I have never owned a console within 3 years of it being released.

Considering rumoured price ranges were above 700 for this system, if it didn't already sound dirt chepa, I don't see why a 500 dollar price tag would seem to affect that.

I'm getting it a year after it's released, I always do with these consoles.

Not enough. Without a lineup of games that cups your balls while you you play, I'm not shelling out 500 for any system. It's just not worth it on blind faith.

2 million per "unit" (As in basic vs more expensive)? A mix of each? 1 million apiece?

The 360 had a lot of sales issues around a lot of placs because they kept selling out of the real system, and people didn't want that barebones shit.

Did just pick up on this at GamesRadar though:

Sony has today cleared up the confusion over the differences in specification between the two models of PlayStation 3 - and the cheaper version won't support wireless controllers.

As announced by the company on Monday, two versions of PS3 will be available at launch - one with a 60GB hard drive, and a less pricy model that features a 20GB hard drive. However, what the company didn't mention at the time is that the 20GB machine also lacks a number of key features that are included as standard in the more expensive model.

The 20GB console won't include an HDMI output, which means that it won't be able to deliver high definition pictures. But perhaps more disappointing is that wireless bluetooth controllers won't be supported; instead, gamers will have to make do with retro-style wired-up versions of the increasingly controversial PS3 pad.

No wireless pads in the cheaper model either :(

I can't cause my EB Games (and probably everyone across the U.S.) isn't taking orders, cause they are getting their shipping numbers early so they don't fuck up the ordering system like they did with the Xbox 360.
