I was watching a ESPN Sports Century bit on him, and i just think that it was a shame that he retired at such an early stage in his career. He was, according to his average rushing yards per year, a SEASON away from breaking Walter Peyton's rushing record. I remember watching the man play on sunday's and would just think to myself, "This guy plays like a kid on the playground playing tag...can't nobody get him!"

But of course, no disrespect RDD, but he played with the Lions when the lions weren't that team to brag about. He basically got tired of losing and, i think, wanted to be traded but was told he was "untradeable".

What are your feelings about Barry? Do you think that he did the right thing when retiring? Should he have stayed in college for his 4 full years? You never know. I mean one thing different could have altered his career.

being from the D area, Barry isn't beloved by all. He's a weird guy. Tremendous player. Barry got upset when his friends started to get dealt to other teams. plus he hated bobby ross

Yea, i knew the guys wasn't going to be invited to everyone's birthday party. I just think that this is a good example of an athlete having control over his future, as opposed to athletes being "slaves" to owners.

Too bad he played for a shit team. He is the GOAT in my opinion.

the Lions weren't THAT bad. It's not like they weren't a playoff team when he played

6 out of the 10 seasons he played they made the playoffs. They were 1-6 in the playoffs. They really only had one REAL good season and one or two decent ones.

So, yeah, they weren't THAT bad, but they were not good.

6 out of 10 years isn't terrible odds when it comes to making the playoffs

Not to knock on Sanders, but the Texans GM had a great quote when asked why they there where picking Williams over Bush; "How many playoff games did Barry Sanders ever win?"

While it wasn't Barry's fault, it is still true. Defense is big when it comes to winning Superbowls, still don't agree with the Texans pick tho because Williams isn't a game changer like a Freeney at defensive end - but that's a whole another topic haha
