Do you think King of the ring should have been aborted?

I THINK THERE SHOULD BE A K.O.T.R TOURNY ON EACH BRAND AND THE TWO WINNERS FACE EACH OTHER AT SUMMERSLAM.......

The only problem with a KOTR style tournament is that often times it gets overlooked, and there is no long term plan with the person who wins. Plus, what woudl the winner of the tourny get? A title shot? Well thats what the Rumble is for.

What would be interesting is if they had a tourny say just on Smackdown (at a PPV, or maybe over two shows), where the champ is also in it. So, you'd actually have the top 8 guys or whatever in a tourny. The champ puts his belt on the line, and whoever wins the tourny is the champ. Only problem with that is that if you have the top 8 guys in there, that means 7 guys have to do JOBs, which isn't necessarily the best idea.

I just dont like when they do the KOTR, and half the guys in the tourny are lower end mid carders, makes the thing look weak and pointless.

Personally, it should have been Survivor Series that was dropped.

After all, until last year, they hadn't had a true SS matchup in years. Also, they had built up KotR to be like the Rumble in that the winner faced the champ. Therefore, you'd get RR winner facing champ at WM and KotR winner facing champ at Summerslam.

Woulda worked for me.

To be honest, though, I'm not incredibly bummed out that they took the PPV away.

Maybe they could use the Tournament as kind of another title that can be defended? What did they do back in the day with the orignal King. Remember King Hacksaw, Macho, Haku? What was the King back then?

With the brand split it'd be too much trouble to have a tournament for both brands, or a single tournament between both brands. Plus like you mentioned, superstars that are actually over would end up jobbing.

KOTR was overrated anyway. It didn't have much of a purpose besides credibility until Brock Lesnar won the 2002 KOTR and defeated The Rock at Summerslam for the Undisputed title, but at that time Brock took away a lot of appreciation for the tournament because he squashed all of his opponents.

As I mentioned in another thread, I read in a WWE Magazine that the WWE's reasoning for discontinuing the KOTR Tourney is because the bookers apparentl;y felt that Brock dominated it so largely in 2002 that they just figured they might as well not even both with it anymore.

Personally I'd like to see the tournament return but that's just me.

Personally I say keep the KOTR PPV out of the picture, but bring back the tournament. At the two PPV's before SummerSlam, each brand should have a mini-tournament to determine their contenders, and at SummerSlam, have three matches, one apiece to determine the finalists, and then the final. Winner gets a title shot at their brand's next PPV. It's a good way to put someone over, as long as it's not Lesnarishly obvious from the getgo who's going to win.

I liked it. It would be cool maybe if they had the losing brand on the Rumble have the KOTR tourny. Like this year RAW lost out but since Benoit jumped, SD would have the tourny. And the winner would face the champ at the next PPV. I still think there's ways it could work, but the bookers lack creativity nowadays I guess it's impossible or something.

I thought KOTR was one of the better PPVs

KOTR was the stuff back in the day but now with this roster split the winner would just be...

brainstorm: 4 stars form Raw vs. 4 stars form SD!. the winner does not get a title shot at SummerSlam but the #30 slot at Rumble to keep the prestiege of winnin the Rumble and gettin a title shot at WM intact as well as keepin a legendary PPV in place cause so many stars were born at that PPV.

I am a tournament mark. I'll take any excuse for a tournament. King of the Ring, vacated title, #1 contender, no matter. A well-booked tournament =

KotR is an awesome idea.

It was a shame to see it go away, I wouldn't mind seeing it back. Keep the interpromotional angle...
