PWInsider reported that it was in fact a real fight and wwe are going to elabrate on it and use it for a storyline.
The news report I read was that Bats rep behind the scenes is that he is a HHH suck up and can get a big head quickily. Since winning the title he has become more aloof and has been thinking he is more of a draw than what he is.
This hasnt sat well with alot of the vets such as Booker-T who is well respected amoung the younger guys and vets alike.
Read into that of what you will.

I have always read that Batista is very quiet, humble, and reserved.
He also has a massive ego the likes of which haven't been seen since Shawn Michaels lost his smile.

Booker T believes that when Batista was champion he took the attitude of "I carried this company on my back" and "I'm the one making this company make money". That rubbed some people the wrong way and it came to a halt on Monday when Booker T stood up and told him to chill out. The confrontation escalated into a fight and was later broken up by other WWE wrestlers. Sharmell came in at the end of the fight to trey to calm things down. Many talents backstage at the SmackDown! tapings were shown high-fiving Booker T for backing up his true feelings. For those wondering, his comments on WWE.com are exactly how he feels about the entire deal. It's interesting to note that WWE chose to 'report' something like this. It was likely done to throw off other 'news' sites like this one
