View Full Version : Are they trying to 'Hassan' Khali?

SMACKDOWN SPOILERS?
On this past Friday Night SmackDown!, in the video package, they played this music that almost seemed "Hassan"-esque. Then later on, he spoke in his native tongue (still sounds garbled as crap. Does he have teeth?)...in a "Daivari"-esque move.
Strange... I'm not sure even going the "Hassan" route will make Khali tolerable.
What? He's supposedly Indian and he's been talking in Kahlish since he debuted.
I haven't seen SmackDown! yet, but I seriously doubt that he's going to go "the Hassan route" just because he has Daivari as a manager.

Not the whole "Post-9/11" angle with Hassan, but with a similar entrance theme (easy to be lampooned and YTMND-ed up by Net fans), and the whole Daivari, "Don't Speak English So That You Get Booed" angle, instead of just having Daivari talk for him.
Aside from the music, Kahli is just playing your standard foreign monster gimmick. There's nothing special about it.
Truthfully, there wasn't that much special about Hassan either, besides the fact that he could personally lay down the insults instead of spitting out random sounds.

I loved Hassan because he was talented as all hell on the mic. It didn't even matter the words he was saying, his whole body language screamed heel. Plus, his music was great "interruption" music. But thinking back, he was kinda average in the ring.
Sadly, Kahli can't even match Hassan's in-ring ability.
Overall, though, it was just another foreign gimmick capitalizing on current events. Just like The Iron Sheik, Nikolai Volkov, etc.

It would make sense. I've read and seen alot of how horrible Khali is in the ring. I already think the clock is ticking on this guy. And considering Undertaker has "killed" people the last 2 Great American Bash's, that could be Khali's fate as well this year.

If they are, expect him to do something really stereotypical that pisses off UPN and then get a Last Ride off the TitanTron....

Khali and Hassan have nothing in common besides being foreign stereotypes. Hassan's character was quite good.

Unlike Hassan, Khali can neither wrestle, nor talk.
Talking in his "native tongue" or not, it still sounded like a big ofe with a muzzle on.
I hope they pull a Hassan repeat and kill off Khali's character. It'd be doing the WWE fans a great service.

Maybe Khali can actually decapitate the Undertaker. Killing two birds with one stone.

Just saw the video, they are using (parts of) the same music they used for hassan in a video package when his "Terrorist unit" choked out Taker.
He was great on the mic. Also his Anti american angle worked unlike so many others.
I'm not taking into account the ability here. I'm just saying that it was just a modified version of the Anti-American angle.

It worked though.
I'm not denying that. I'm just saying the gimmick is the same, just with a different actor, for lack or a better word.

The same could be said for Stone Cold though, He was the same as Sandman and made Millions for the WWE.
You could say that about ever wrestler really.....Except Burchill :shifty:

Not that it really matters, as his angle is nothing like Khali's.

And a different approach...
That's kind of the crux. Hassan was not anti-America in the traditional sense. Especially since he was an estranged American. A guy from Detroit who didn't get his rights as an American respected. It wasn't just the actor, but the different tack they took.
