View Full Version : Your chance to rule my TV schedule...

Since I got broadband, I have discovered many TV shows (via torrents) I had never seen before: Arrested Development, Scrubs, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Critic, American Dad! and Peep Show being among them.
Trouble is, I have now watched all of these shows in their entirety and I have nothing else to watch and no ideas as to what I should acquire next. And I am a raving insomniac (as you can probably tell, seeing as I am posting this at 5.40am) so I always like to watch something for a couple of hours before I get to sleep (The background noise helps, for some strange reason). So what do you guys recommend I should watch?
As you can tell from the above shows, I'm a comedy lover. The only non-comedy shows I ever watch are 24 and EastEnders. So don't recommend drama shows, because I don't really get into them.
And if anyone knows where I can get torrents of the Larry Sanders show, that would be amazing.

King of Queens is pretty good. So is According to Jim. If you find old school Cosby Show stuff I would much appreciate linkage.

Randomly, I heard good reviews for King Of Queens so I started downloading it. Plus the awesome Jerry Stiller is in it.
But then I started hearing bad reviews and cancelled the download. I should give it a try, I guess. Maybe download one episode and if I like it, then get the rest.
I think I'm going to try the US version of the Office too, see if that is any good. I know it won't measure up to the UK version, but it might still be worth a watch.
I also downloaded NewsRadio episode one, after hearing rave reviews of the show, but I wasn't too impressed.

Yeah, definitly go with the US version of The Office. It is hilarious on a different level than the UK version, but both own. Might also want to try My Name is Earl for another comedy.
I know you said drama isn't your thing, but just give Lost a try. DL the whole 1st season. If you're having doubts, just watch the first 4 episodes and you should be hooked.

Just trust me on this download Brass Eye.
King of Queens is notrhing sepcial the kind of thing you'd watch with your breakfast as you killed time before work but not something to activly seek out.

No need... I have them all already. Watched it when it was first shown in the mid 90s.
AWESOME show. And Chris Morris is equal parts insane and hilarious.

Sports Night. They only made 45 episodes before ABC cancelled it, so it won't take you long. But it's totally worth it. The best comedy series ever, imo, even if it isn't a sitcom in the traditional sense.

Robot Chicken is the best show currently on TV. Quick 15 minutes of greatness.

I agree with SportsNight comment. Thinking of other comedy related ones you could go into more sketch comedy based shows such as: Whose Line is it Anyways?, SNL, SCTV, Mr. Show. Another sitcom that I found hilarious was Strangers with Candy, and if you can find TV Funhouse get that. Finally I'll suggest Tales from the Crypt
For some not so much comedy shows I'd suggest House, The Shield, OZ, Rescue Me.

Cheers guys, I'll check some of them out.
Any other suggestions?

I forgot to mention Little Britain, judging by you watching Eastenders and Peep Shows I'll assume you are british and have heard of it. On a side note, does anybody know where I can find Eastenders to download?

Eastenders can be found on http://www.uknova.com/
I don't know if they're allowing signups at the moment, but keep checking back as they kick out inactive members everyday.
Anyway, I'd recommend The Tick, cartoon and live action if you can find them. League against Tedium is pretty good too if very odd. QI is good to stick on for 30 minutes too.

Since when did I say it was the greatest show ever?
That clearly is Seinfeld.

Seinfeld is the best U.S. show ever, IMO.
Cheers was a great suggestion, I have season 1 on DVD but never followed up with the rest. Think I'm gonna check out Cheers plus seasons 1 and 2 of the American Office are now downloaded, so I'm gonna give that a bash. Nice one.

I have them all. Takes some time to get into, but when you "get it", it's a great show. Pretty subtle.

By the way, the US version of The Office is much better than I had anticipated. Steve Carrell makes it.
The only downside is the guy playing Dwight (aka Gareth in the UK version). He's awful.

If you haven't seen it yet, go with 24 season 1. Drama is 24, trust me
NeanderCarl

I've seen all the 24 seasons. It's the best drama on TV, the only drama I make a point to watch every week.
My problem with Rainn Wilson is that he is too OTT in his portrayal of Dwight. The key to the Office is subtlety and realism. It's supposed to have a documentary feel to it. Dwight is a character removed from your traditional sitcom, performed on stage in front of a live studio audience. Maybe in that setting, he would be more amusing. But he doesn't fit into the feel of The Office, in my opinion.

But did you d/l Lost yet?
Not yet. I would have to clear space on my hard drive to do so, plus I'm not sure if I'd enjoy it. It seems to me as though it is a show with no clear direction, with no conclusion in mind. (You could make a similar argument for 24, I guess, to be fair.)
It just seems as though they will stretch out the concept for as long as they can before they are forced to come up with answers to all the questions they pose each week. Maybe I'm wrong.
What is so great about this show then?

You cant watch the US office expecting the same thing as the UK one. The first couple episodes they are trying to copy them but then they start to get their own tone and it gets really good.
They are trying to be more in your face with the comedy as opposed to super dry and realistic

Having seen them all now, I have to say I've really enjoyed the U.S. Office, especially the latter part of season 2. The U2 video ("A Michael Scott Joint") was one of the funniest things I've seen this year. Quality recommendation, kudos to those who suggested it.

I'd definately disagree with Da Ali G Show. That's probably the most annoying unfunny piece of of crap for a television show that I've ever seen.

When did you watch it though? At the time Ali G first came out he was a great parody of the emerging "wigger" geenration in the UK, and coupled with his befuddled interviewees, it really was an awesome show. I haven't watched them recently, but I imagine they may not have aged that well. But back in the day, blud, that show was fucking awesome.
