They need to make some sense here, they didn't DQ Edge/Dreamer, but they DQ Cena/Sabu?!

ECW on SCI-FI PLUS WWE's annoucing a 1 hour classic match program. I hope it all works out great.

"classic match program"? I haven't heard this. Please, go on.

Well, other then the obvious brawl at the end, damn fine show.. Announcers during Edge/Dreamer, Show turning, and Foley Promo made this a great show for me.

The DQ ending had me confused to, just adds to the shit night really. That can be the 4th thing on my list.

I agree. This show sucked, plain and simple. It reminded me of the InVasion in many ways.

The only part that looked to save the whole show was the main event. Sabu - the man is a freaking legend and all around badass. Cena is also bad ass because of the heel heat he gets now hahaha its so funny. When things were looking great, it ended in interference.

What a disappointment. I'm not ordering ONS because I never order any PPVs. I'll just wait for the debut show on Sci Fi to prove me wrong and show that this ECW will be good.

I think the problem is...it doesn't feel like a promotion...this is all owned by Vince. The days of the old ECW are gone.

Besides the shit ending, I thought it was a great show.

Not bad (what I saw of it... thanks, SS3!) but the crowd was dead throughout. Not a good sign, considering ECW will be taped in front of WWE crowds.

Get out the old sound sweetening machine, Vince!

"classic match program"? I haven't heard this. Please, go on.

WWE had a press release yesterday annoucing new additions to WWE 24/7 and expanding it. Officaliy annoucing the purchase of Florida, Stampede and World Class video libaries and for a one hour classic match program.

:O at Cena entering first.

I laughed at Lawler's "dance recital" line too.Cena said it first.

I'm gonna open a can of worns here but ya know...You guys bitch and whine way too much dang just enjoy the show for what it was, I thought was a decent show, true the ending sucked, but you had a suprising turn, a Foley Prom that was great, and an opening match that was above average. Geez.

I thought it was pretty good tbh, had some really good stuff, had a few problems but the show did it's job. What was up with Lawler tonight? He came off as such a bitch tonight. Although I'd say they've got more fans to support ECW because of tonight.

This show was awful, totally made me lose interest in the "new" ECW. Gonna be nothing like the old shit

The announcers going back and forth for 2 hours was gay, sounded like such little bitches fighting back and forth. They were just saying the stupidest shit, I can't believe people on here thought that part of the show was "cool."

So much for watching wrestling again

Well isn't this going to the be exact settings for the new ECW? In WWF arenas, in WWF rings. I can just see it being the same exact shit but now instead of one guy taking all the extreme bumps, both guys will be doing it. Like a lot of others, I think the small arenas really added to the whole atmosphere of the show. Being able to dive into the crowd from the ring and shit like that, I just can't see stuff like that happening with its current set up. If they were move it back into the ECW rings, and ECW style arenas then I think my feelings would probably be different.

They are doing house shows in the smaller arenas, but I can understand your point as far as the televised product. But I don't think we can expect Vince to do any shows in 2000 people arenas.

Stima, didn't you notice that they did do a crowd dive tonight? It looked to me like they brought one side of the barricade in closer to the ring just for that kind of spot. Works for me. Long as I get RVD's jacknife plancha, I'm happy.

All in all, I really enjoyed the show tonight. I missed the entire Angle/Orton promo because I was on the phone, but the show as a whole was solid. Obviously it didn't feel 100% ECW, but that's because it was 50% WWE, seeing as how it was WWE vs. ECW and all.

ONS is probably going to be closer to 75/25 (smaller arena, more returning ECW guys, but also two WWE title matches). I don't think we're going to get a real gauge on the "feel" of the new ECW until the Sci Fi show starts.

But, obviously, they can't give us a 100% ECW show yet, since they only have about a 15-man roster. That's going to expand, sure, but if they tried to book tonight as a full ECW show, it would have been pretty weak.

Showing the ECW guys as threats (WWE "won" the battle royal because Edge cheated for the whole thing, then wound up losing anyway) against the guys that are already established in the fans' eyes will make it easier to watch the guys like Tony Mamaluke and Danny Doring. If Sandman looks like a threat against Mark Henry and Randy Orton, he'll be a lot more appealing to the WWE fans at the post-SmackDown shows.

All that being said, this show had Heyman's fingerprints all over it. It was as though Paul Heyman was booking a WWE show (which is something some of us have been clamoring for for years), and he was allowed to do it under ECW rules.

Gives me hope for when he gets to book ECW under ECW rules.

Crimson
06-08-2006, 01:50 AM
Im curious to see how they make the new ECW. I think as long as Vince gives Heyman all the power, it has promise..even if it has the Invasion feel to it right now..it's only for this week , after this they'll be on their own anyways and they had to promote it somehow.

As for the show it had it's highs and lows, the battle royal was shit with the commercials. I'll give it a 3/5

I just saw the tape of the special and I must say, WWE is doing pretty good with ECW. Of course it will NOT be the old ECW, but the least they can do is give us some good entertainment and that's what I felt tonight.

The Show's turn to ECW was surprising since he didn't do SHIT recently, RVD/Rey Rey was great, Foley Promo = Classic, Styles shooting off the entire time, Funk almost punching Justin, and Edge nearly killing himself... these were some great moments. But what's up with Orton on Raw and on the ONS PPV? Less WWE and more ECW at the PPV, ok, please? The PPV I am now actually looking forward to, but the Tuesday night show, even more so.

One last thing...

No matter the shit talk or praise, you WILL end up watching the PPV, the Sci Fi channel show, and Raw. So it's funny reading all this because yeah, it WILL happen and I should know because that's me and WWE right there. You just have to find something to hate about it, even if you can't help but watch it.

K, just got back from Ohio. Had tremendous seats, opposite the titantron, 10 rows up.

Some thoughts:
-The show was not good. Sure, the wrestling was decent, but the only actual ECW guy put over was RVD, and that was by a world champion whose already been squashed by everyone else in the company.

-Big Show going to ECW was suprising, but lame.Send him over to Smackdown for some star power (especially after sending Orton to Raw :wtf: ), and use the battle royal to put over someone ACTUALLY FROM ECW.

-Dunno how it came across on TV, but Ohio is definitely not Cena country.

-I loved Cena's promo when he referred to having the belt Bruno Sammartino, Hulk Hogan and Steve Austin wore. Yep, definitely remeber Bruno with the Spinner belt. Good times.

-The Nutter arena has the absolute worst security force I've ever seen.

-Foley's promo was pretty hot.

note about the preshow: Poor, poor Jimmy Yang. They could send him to ECW and feud him with Super Crazy or Tony Mamaluke or someone, but no. He had a dark match tonight, and debuted his new gimmick. I believe someone on the creative team has been watching a lot of Shanghai Noon, because Jimmy Yang came out in a leather cowboy outfit, complete with confederate flag on his back. He beat Tatanka (Cowboy Vs Indian, you see) with a rollup and his feet on the ropes. There were alternating chants of "Brokeback Mountain" and "YMCA". :nono:

I don't get why people are saying the show was terrible. It was what it was - a show to build toward ECW One Night Stand. And for a build show, I'd say it was very well done. The finish that everyone's complaining about had to have been expected. If the WWE went over, we'd have at least 3 pages of people complaining that Vince is screwing ECW. Allow yourselves to be entertained and don't be so eager to tout the show as horrible.

This show was terrible.

Sky Sports ruined it for me. I'm sure RVD vs. Rey and everything else that happened in the 1st hour were great but I didn't get to see it so I can't take those aspects into account when judging the show.

The battle royal was just shit. Typical boring battle royal totally void of excitement.
The Big Show to ECW moment was great however and my favourite part of the show.

Edge vs. Dreamer was on of the worst matches in a long time. It was NOTHING like an ECW match should be. It was just slow-paced, hard to watch "wrestling".

Foley's Promo was good.

Sabu vs. Cena was also a let down. The match didn't suggest to me that Sabu is "homicidal, suicidle and genocidle" crazy fucker that he is.

I'm disappointed.

I meant that in an "an All-Kevin Nash Wrestling special would be better than WWE of late" kind of way.

Also, it bothered me that in the Dreamer/Edge match they actually brought weapons to the ring. They should have called it a weapons match, not an ECW/EXTREMEEEEE rules match.

Also, Rey/RVD, while their timing was a bit off and were a bit sloppy (probably due to not being in the ECW-style groove) it was a pretty good match. I really loved the nod to the ECW RVD when he bowed.

Rey diving into the crowd was one of my biggest mark-out moments this year. That opening match should have been the main event.

Xero
06-08-2006, 11:38 AM
The dive was another thing. It's almost impossible to do the dives to the crowd in huge arenas like that, because there are so many fans and kids around that don't know enough to move, so the wrestlers probably have to tell them multiple times to get the fuck out of the way.

Big arenas for spots like that won't fly very well.

Kane Knight
06-08-2006, 12:02 PM
Sabu is fucking crap. He cannot live up to his "Homicidal, Genocidal, yadda yadda" reputation anymore than Cena can live up to his "street Thug" reputation.

That's what I was implying with the "requoting you" bit.

Also, it bothered me that in the Dreamer/Edge match they actually brought weapons to the ring. They should have called it a weapons match, not an ECW/EXTREMEEEEE rules match.

Uhhh...Every time they've done something ECW in the last 2 years, it's involved weapons. They're selling it as EXTREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEME (Which means weapons, hardcore, bleeding, barbed wire), not on all the grounds that everyone points out. People keep saying that old ECW wasn't just about hardcore garbage spots, so new ECW won't be like that either. But what do they show in the promos? What do they talk about? What do they hype? Oh yeah.

Also, Rey/RVD, while their timing was a bit off and were a bit sloppy (probably due to not being in the ECW-style groove) it was a pretty good match. I really loved the nod to the ECW RVD when he bowed.

That was an awesome match, timing or no. I noticed a few Fuckups, but meh.

Great show! The commentary was great. A perfect example of what you get when there is some competition in wrestling.

I'm interesting in finding out the ratings though. And I was hoping for more from the Sandman and Justin Credible.

I kind of expected the crowd to be silent because they are unfamiliar with the ECW guys. Give the WWE fans some time to get to know and familiarize themselves with the ECW guys and that will change.
