There was The Ring, then The Grudge, then Kairo, etc. Fine, random horror movies I can deal with...
Then they remake Infernal Affairs as "The Departed" and although they have a great cast, I've heard they're royally fucking up the script.
Not only that, but apparently Old Boy is going to be remade.
And Ikiru.
And the most recent boys and girls?
New Line Cinema has apparently made it possible for Hollywood to remake Battle Royale.
How the fuck are they going to do that and not make it really, really shitty?
Hmm?

Hollywood has run out of ideas. It's much easier to remake movies because you don't have to think and be creative.

I haven't heard of any of those so I don't really care

Hollywood does this every time something catches on. Why do you think we have reality shows, a parody of every movie every made, 15 forensic shows, Blair Witch ripoffs, etc.?

It's because these movies are good but the common American will not watch them because they'll be all like "I ain't reading no subtitles! Why they talk so funny?" or "WHAT? This is dubbed?! Ha ha ha ha ha!". So they take the movies and remake them in English. Usually screwing them over by changing it into what they think the American audience wants.
I'd actually like to see a remade Battle Royale. You know, just to see how they do it. Plus, it's a novel originally. There can be different films based on the same novel.
Oldboy I don't want to see adapted at all though. Should be left alone.

The problem is, both Oldboy and Battle Royale would have to be changed enough to actually have a release in America.
Oldboy deals with a BIG taboo subject.
Battle Royale has 9th graders killing each other.
Also, from what I've read, they've fucked up the Infernal Affairs script so basically the whole original point of the movie is lost, and it's going to have a generic 'gangster movie ending"
I don't have a problem with remakes. I have a problem when the remake ends up a bastardized version of the original. For example, I don't want to see Kiriyama in Battle Royale be some angsty goth kid who got made fun of. I gurantee that's what they'll do though.

There's another remake of Seven Samurai in the pipeline as well.

So did Lord Of The Flies. Although, those kids were younger. ...and they weren't supposed to be killing each other.
Yeah, the comparison seemed a lot more apt in my mind before I posted it.
Remaking Oldboy will probably be a disastrous failure, just, awful.
Sergio Leone was the only guy who ever successfully did it as far as i know when he made the Magnificent Seven
