View Full Version : The State of Raw: One man's opinion

I'm finding myself less and less interested in the raw product right now. That's not to say that its been terrible, but I find myself saying (especially after the last 6 or 7 weeks) that Raw seemed kinda phoned in. They all seem rather similar, your typical Hunter and Vince butting heads that desperately wishes it had the heat of SCSA and Vince. Cena being booked in some uninteresting match, though his run ins with RVD before One Night Stand were kinda interesting. Other than that its all pretty much seemingly the same, the usual 5 star Umaga match, the Spirit Squad's (whom I'm not finding terribly interesting since they became Vince's personal bitches) weekly 5 on 1 beatdown on someone, etc. I wish I could say that the whole Foley/Edge/Dreamer/Funk thing was interesting, except I didn't feel that Terry funk belonged anywhere near a ring at this point. And the Foley turn seemed so.. blah. And I don't know that anyone could cite DX being interesting or fresh, considering A) we've seen it done before repeatedly and B)more than likely, its only a temporary 'stable'.

One thing that has me slightly interested is the Kane versus 'Kane' angle. Though I can't say that would have me tune in on a week to week basis. At this point the future doesn't seem significantly better unless they reunite the brands, as has been rumored. There is just a lack of interesting angles and fresh talent on raw, in my opinion. I won't even mention Smackdown, its been done in other threads.

Thoughts on the Raw product right now?

I personally think Raw has been at its best since 2001.

I agree with both of you In that dablackguy has expressed my exact thoughts on raw atm. But at the same time we have had some of the best Raw shows since 01/02.

RAW has bored me since WrestleMania. I didn't order Backlash, and I'm certainly not going to order Vengeance. I'll download the matches I want to see from the internet. The WWE is not getting my money for the shit DX thing they've been doing.

Sure, bringing DX back will pop the ratings, and it will pop the crowd. I was thoroughly bored when they got back together on RAW. Don't give me that "it's fake, it doesn't need to make sense" shit, because that is the exact mentality which turns people off the WWE. How can Vince McMahon not have a fucking clue DX is coming back when his show opens with a big "X" pyro and the fans chant it on a regular basis. Now that DX are back together, it seems he is taking logical steps (trying to destroy them, etc.), but as soon as DX starts building momentum, one question must be asked: Why not send Triple H or Shawn Michaels to SmackDown!?

Vince McMahon bores me these days. I used the love the guy's character, but now he plays a crazy old man, and he comes off as rather pathetic. He seems the kind of guy that Triple H or Shawn Michaels could beat-up every night of the week and only have him come back talking about some "highway to Hell". What I used to love about Vince McMahon was that he seemed sane and methodical. You pissed him off, you would learn a lesson from it.

The handicap matches are rather repetitive these days.

RAW's saving grace for me is the mid-card. Shelton Benjamin, Charlie Haas, Johnny Nitro and Carlito are the only reason to watch RAW. That and to see The Spirit Squad when they're not being used as JTTS. Hopefully, they really let their mid-card on RAW turn up the heat. If they have Nick Dinsmore drop the "Eugene" gimmick, give Rob Conway his dignity back and let Umaga be Jamal, things could be awesome on RAW.

Unfortunately, I see the mid-card being used as nothing for filler between Vince McMahon's self-fellatio.

One question must be asked: Why not send Triple H or Shawn Michaels to SmackDown!?

Because it is, and will always be the "B" show. Having DX on smackdown is kinda like having the Rolling Stones open for a local bar band... it's just not gonna fucking happen. Smackdown is throughly in the crapper, and I sincerly doubt they're going to fix it. Let Johnny Ace book it to it's doom, merge the rosters, scrap Smackdown, get NBC to monopolize WWE Entertainment and fulltime SNME and call it a fucking day. Merge the WWE and WHC Titles, Merge the Tag Belts, Merge the IC and Cruiser Belt, and Keep the US belt. Full roster with enough belts and contenders, plus decent matches, plus you could just fill off the rest o f the ECW roster so we don't get stuck with shit like last night every tuesday.

well something that will make me more interested in Raw would be a John Cena heel turn, but yes RAW has been sucking lately, howeve, I enjoy watching the Spirit Squad every week. It's good to see some of what could be your future champions starting out and how the crowd is reacting to them.

I agree that the matches and stories are boring and old.
But take a look at smackdown, and see why alot of people prefer raw.
personally I prefer because HHH and Edge are there.
