Didn't the original sheik die just a few years ago? I get why he does it now, but why did he do it in the 90's?

Shadow

Because it's Sabu.

Do you need any other reason?

Tribute to the Shiek, and because he's Sabu, the man.

It's didn't have anything to do with his uncle.

The reason the Sabu character pointed upwards was because the idea was when he was in an arena he'd be enamored with the lights and would point to them mid-match because being in such a setting was alien to him.

When was this?

Joey Slugs

I doubt it was Kane. I just think ol' boy is taking out of his ass.

The explanation of Sabu's pointing is coming straight from Joey Styles during broadcasts when he would say "As Sabu points to the skys... in tribute to his uncle, the Original Shiek"

Had nothing to do with his uncle dying, it was a tribute to the character.

Sabu, before becoming a wrestling did artexting on ceilings, once when he was coming down the ring in the ECW arena he saw a crack, stopped, pointed up to it and said those famous words 'ooOOO that's going to cost ya' and the thing just stuck with him.

True story

Ironically, the question was in the Q&A on PWInsider.com

http://www.pwinsider.com/ViewArticle.asp?id=18770&p=1

"Now that ECW is back, I'm wondering why Sabu points to the sky every few minutes. Please let me know what this signifies.

At this point, it's simply a trademark gesture by Sabu. The storyline idea when he started doing it on the independent scene in the early 1990s was that being such a savage, he had never seem lights before and was pointing at them in awe."

In short, I was right :shifty:

it said at one night stand it was a tribute to his uncle the original sheik
but it could be that there was a crack in the ceiling :)

hb2k
06-25-2006, 02:08 PM
That was because it was after the camel clutch, and response to that move, the fans were chanting "Sheik". Sabu then pointed to the ceiling to acknowledge the chants and his now deceased uncle. But the original concept behind it was much different.

He's pointing to Eddie Guerrero. Sabu hopes to become Heavyweight Champion soon

(Sabu and Randy Orton stand face to face in the ECW Ring.)

RANDY ORTON: "Eddie Guerrero is in hell, Sabu! And he's not coming back!"

SABU: "Eddie's not in hell, Randy! Eddie is... up there!"

NEW JACK: "New Jack away, motha fuckas! YEEE HAW!"

(New Jack smashes Sabu and Randy Orton from the rafters.)

Actually he points to the upwards to say let everyone know, Sean O'Haire is still up there, and sadly, his cage is beginning to fall with the excess weight.
