JBL is GREAT as an announcer. A little repetitive at times, but tonight was fantastic. I loved the banter between him and Cole. It finally sounded like the old announcing teams. You know, where one of them was totally pro-face and the other was totally pro-heel?
Heck, JBL is the closest thing to Heenan since Lawler in his prime (which was like... a decade ago, frankly). When he was totally rooting for Regal and Finlay, I was laughing my ass off, especially when the leprauchaun came out.
I dunno if he's retired, but he definitely needs to be SD! announcer for a while, and come back to announcing after he retires (if he returns to wrestling after his injury).
JBL was gold this week.
"I'm Michael Jordan and you're Will Purdue."
"I've got an AMEX card. I'm gonna buy that little bastard."
"Booker T's following his plan, it's just taking him a little longer than usual."
And if I'm raving over what some of you call mediocre announcing, then maybe it's because compared to the announcing over the years, which has seemed uninspired, JBL is a breath of fresh air.

Same thoughts exactly. His commentating skills was fucking awesome.

I watched Smackdown! tonight for the first time since early January, and JBL is making me considering watching it next week (or at least recording it).

Its kinda refreshing that when your watching wrestling and you can clearly understand which commentator is meant to be a heel or a face.
Sometimes in the past few years if I didnt know better I dont think I wouldnt have known who the was the heel out of Lawler and JR and Tazz and Cole.
Call me a traditionalist if you will but I think there should always be a clear face and a clear heel. Its adds so much to the storyline aspect and JBL makes a fantastic heel commentator.

Ditto that. Tazz wasn't bad, but he was a little too tweener, often times. He was great for providing wrestling information, but JBL was just utterly entertaining. The "King Booker" got a little annoying at the end, but only because he was being redundant.
I still think he's a jackass, but I definitely enjoy his kayfabe character.

Jackasses always make awesome characters...Russell Crowe, JBL, and God was a total douche bag, and yet look how awesome his character has played out over the years...

I enjoyed Tazz's commentry but I didnt think he played a good heel. Most of the time his heel work would just consist of saying "I like "insert heels name" or constantilly repeating the heels catchphrases ("Look Cole its Brock Lesnar. Here comes the pain baby" or "Heres the wrestling god JBL" ).

I just watched Smackdown, and I have to say I absolutly loved JBL on commentary. He's a good heel announcer, who also says some comical things. He is going to help make the shows all the more enjoyable just by his commentary alone.

I didn't not enjoy JBL, but I think he should commentate on the wrestling in the ring just a little more.
Overall it's pretty refreshing for Smackdown. I loved everything he said when King Booker was coming out. I also loved his tone of voice for that.
Give JBL a couple of months and he'll probably be a great commentator.

It's also nice to have a complete heel announcer again.

For some reason, the thing JBL said that cracked me up the most was when he said, "You know what, Michael Cole, I'm the greatest wrestler of all time and even I couldn't defeat The Great Khali". It was just so hilarious to me because he's constantly putting himself over.
Psh, so what if JBL is a good announcer? I still wouldn't watch Smackdown.

If they slap a "two machismo" limit on JBL during all Rey matches, he would be even better.
Maybe it was the beer...but I really enjoyed Friday's show. :y:
