In relation to last monday's Raw:

I hate JR.

That fucker ruined the finish to the main event. I watched with excitement and suspense as RVD was struggling to get to the ropes and wondering would he tap.
Then JR ruins it. "BAH GAWD RVD'S GONNA TAP. RVD CAN'T TAKE THIS. RVD IS GOING TO TAP. HE IS GOING TO TAP ANY SECOND. HE WILL TAP! HE WILL TAP!"

Thanks JR for letting us know that it wasn't going to end by submission. At that stage I was just waiting for someone to interfere and when Edge did, I just didn't care because JR ruined all the sense of realism.

Rarely do Heavy Weight Championships change hands on Raw or Smackdown, I do not even know why they bothered asking people who would win-EVERYONE should have known the belt was not changing hands.

What annoyed me more was when RVD did that corkscrew senton off the top to the outside. JRs like 'BAW GAWD WHAT A MOONSAULT! Some people call it a moonsault, others call it a corkscrew plancha..."

Ummmmm Jr... I'm pretty sure only you call that a moonsault. Dumbass.

Yeah, but that doesn't mean the announce team should sell it as such.

"BAH GAWD! THERES NOT GONNA BE A TITLE CHANGE TONIGHT!"

Honestly, it's classic wrestling announcing.

He's almost the same as he was before, It's just that his weaknesses are more apparent after Joey's style of commentating.

What you mean good commentating?

Sometimes you do get a feel that the title might change hands on Raw or Smackdown. If it's the main event and they have like 10-20 minutes to have the match, then there's a real possibility it'd change hands. I actually thought RVD was going to lose. But yeah, once JR started screaming about RVD tapping I knew it wouldn't happen.

Wasn't the last time the title changed hands on Raw when Austin beat Angle in 2001?

They did have the Vacant title after the HHH v Edge v Benoit match.
I hate JR.

No, his flaws have been apparent for years, as they've been Getting worse for years. Styles may have changed the font, but the writing's been on the wall for years.

JR has been losing it, there are just no more great commentary teams, JR was great with Monsoon- even Lord Alfred, without question Bobby and the Macho King is under-rated in regards to commentary talent. This thread is long overdue- commentary is awful on all WWE shows as far as I am concerned.."HOLY MACKEREL" "GIVE ME A BREAK!"

Well, that's why I've loved JBL so far. He's a breath of fresh air and a throwback to the days when there were actually full-on heel announcers.

Yeah, JR and King have been pissing me off lately. Seriously, King at Vengeance had a line which might have actually hurt D-Generation X:

"Hey JR, do you know that wherever DX goes women are flashing them."

The way he said it made seeing boobies equivalent to a total of fourteen Heavyweight Title reigns and three Royal Rumble wins. Seriously, the guy needs to go. JR needs to go, as well. He muddled up the Spanish commentators' names for crying out loud. That's going to offend some people.

Michael Cole and JBL are the best team in the WWE. Seriously, Layfield is the best colour commentator I have seen since Paul Heyman, and I think Mr Ratings has a chance to be even better than Heyman. The way he puts over talent is commendable.

Just listen to him talk about Gregory Helms and Matt Hardy this week on SmackDown!. He put Paul London & Brian Kendrick over huge last week. Also be listening for this exchange when SmackDown! airs in the U.S. tonight:

JBL: I'm going to the World Cup this weekend!

MICHAEL COLE: They're going to let you back into Germany?

The one thing I dislike about Cole/Layfield is MC's biased face commentary. I can understand why he does it, and he might not even be the one behind the concept, but it just makes me sick to hear him blowing Bobby Lashley and Rey Mysterio's shared corporate cock every week.

My ideal play-by-play commentary last week on SmackDown! would have had the PBP guy agreeing with JBL on the matter of Lashley's stupidity. Not as harshly as JBL did, but pointing out it is stupid to get into the ring with a five-time Heavyweight Champion if you have an injured leg. Then when Lashley won, it would have been a huge surprise and mark-out moment for the commentators. The PBP could talk about how Lashley proved them both wrong, and they really underestimated the amazing abilities of Lashley. The PBP guy could sell a one-legged man beating a former five-time Heavyweight Champion as something inconceivable, and how Lashley has made a name for himself right under their noses.

Joey Styles or Josh Mathews and JBL would make a fantastic commentary duo. Maybe a combination of Michael Cole (Face Storyteller), Josh Mathews (Tweener Match Caller), JBL (Heel Storyteller) would work?

Just another random note: Why do so many commentators, specifically in the WWE, have a name beginning with "J"? Jerry Lawler, Jim Ross, Joey Styles, John Bradshaw Layfield, Jonathan Coachman and Josh Mathews. 6/10 commentating positions (I'm still counting Velocity for some reason) are held by Js. Odd.

I heard JR gets excited like that when he's got heartburn or gas, cuz he can't wait for the show to be over so he can take his pepcid or pepto-bismol.:D

Honestly, it's classic wrestling announcing.

See, thats true, but the announcing style hasnt really adapted to the modern product. Back in the day, when it wasn't as widely known about beng predetemined, it didn't matter as much. But now since there are so many smart fans who know the old commentary trick, its obviously a good idea to drop it, and try to make the matches more unpredictable from the announcing side.

Like instead of JR saying 'Bah Gawd! RVD is gonna tap goddammit!' it would make hell of alot more sense just to say something about how much pain he would be in, or how its a dangerous place to be caught in this late in the match. This way, he's not blatently telling most viewers that its not actually over. It just sounds like he's analizing the situation.

LOL, JBL and Michael Cole continue to bring the commentating goodness this week:

LAYFIELD: Would you ever see Jack Briscoe wearing a dress?

COLE: ...Maybe Gerry.

I still think these guys have their formula down. Sure, MC is a little too biased towards the good guys, but JBL's heel bias is fantastic. He actually uses it to put guys over. Bobby Lashley, Paul London (who is apparently from Pluto), Brian Kendrick (also from Pluto), Matt Hardy and Gregory Helms (a heel, but still) have been put over by JBL's heel commentating. It really works well. Jim Ross, who I must also admit, is good at putting guys over, should move into the colour commentary role. Have Josh Mathews replace Jerry Lawler. Josh Mathews & Jim Ross/Michael Cole & John Bradshaw Layfield can own commentary in the WWE.

But you're asking for WWE to adapt, something they clearly can't do.
