View Full Version : Join me in asking... Is ECW really that bad?

What Would Kevin Do?

Yes, Vince is PROBABLY going to run it into the shitter, but lets review ECW's first 4 weeks.

Week 1... Sucked.

Week 2.. Better. Good main event with Angle/RVD Vs Orton/Edge

Week 3. Probably the best show so far, with Sabu Vs Roadkill and a great main event between Angle and RVD.

Week 4... Not as good. Squashes of ECW guys galore.. BUT like it or not, Big Show Vs RVD was a good match, and it played out well.

Is Vince shitting on ECW?

No.

Sandman, while he's only being used right now beating comedy characters, is getting constant air time. Justic Credible got jobbed out to Angle, but it was to make Angle look badass.. JC was suppose to be a big player though in ECW... We'll see if that happens without Heyman.

Mike Knox. People seem to be forgetting that it was Paul Heyman who was big on the guy, and it's Heyman's reason he's there... Vince likes big men, but Heyman liked KNox. Let's give the guy a chance.

Fertig... I'm digging in. We'll see how it plays out.

Test.... I'm iffy on him. I wasn't happy he destroyed Snow, but Snow doesn't wrestle much anymore anyway, and is apparently happy being a trainer. While the ECW fans may not like it, it was logical booking to introduce Test.

Angle needs time off, that's not Vince's fault.... RVD and Sabu fucked up, that's not Vince's fault. Big Show is champ. Honestly, who else was going to get the belt? There isn't anyone on the roster yet established enough to do it.

But they're working on that. They're trying to establish Knox and Test, they're bringing in CM Punk. Fertig should start wrestlign soon. Rome wasn't built in a day, and the "new" ECW will not be built in 4 hours. It's going to take time to establish new guys, get angles going, build a roster, etc. If you look at things objectivly, they are pretty much starting from scratch, and the first 4 shows were built off of very little. People complained about the WWE infusion, but the fact is, the roster at the time only had 10 people. For the most part, the shows haven't been unenjoyable. Each show has had something I've enjoyed. Plus, we've gotten some damn good matches out of it so far. Mind you, these are matches that were given 15 minutes at least. How often on Raw or Smackdown do you ahve a GOOD 15 minute match?

Vince isn't going to purposely ruin ECW. If he can make money off of it, he'll try his damndest to.

Don't get me wrong. If ECW starts having 5 minute main events, 20 minute promos, no wrestling, and it's downright shitty, I'll say "Hey, this fuckign sucks." If the Diva search ends up on ECW, I'll stop watching. So far though, they haven't done anything that bad. THe worst thing so far is the Kelly thing. I can't imagine that will happen every week. Give them some more time. Wait for the roster to grow. Wait for a TV title, and maybe some tag titles. A tv title tourny could be a GREAT oppertunity to get the wrestlers over.

And if nothing else, we have CM Punk being straight edge.

Because after all, he is drug free, alcohol free, and better than you.

I saw a highlight video of RVD vs. Big Show on SmackDown!, and I must say, the match looked pretty intense, and the atmosphere seemed great. I'm actually going to admit I may have been wrong about this new ECW.

I'm expecting Heyman comes out and says that if ECW is going to survive, it needs to become sports entertainment. Vince McMahon once told Heyman that ECW couldn't exist in the big time with its extreme attitude, and Heyman wants to exist. Rob Van Dam, The Sandman, Justin Credible, Sabu, Kurt Angle and CM Punk will likely be the faces of the promotion; Big Show, Test, Mike Knox, Fertig and Gangrel the heels.

They really need two hours, though. Part of the reason the matches are short is due to time contraints, I think. Little Guido will only be able to wrestle without limits if there is time. Mike Knox and Test won't impress anyone unless there is time for them to show they are more talented big men. The WWE should really film bonus matches for ECW.com, or something.

I have yet to see any new ECW that isn't short video recpas on Raw or Smackdown. Stupid Canada sucking and not getting it. Hopefully when we finally get it, more people will be saying good things about it.

RVD/Big Show couldn't save that hour of suck. I'm really glad it was done in front of an ECW audience. It's an improvement from that steaming pile that was the debut, but it's nowhere near good.

Vince has done the impossible, in my eyes. He's made TNA look watchable.

I must say this again, though, right now I'm more interested in seeing the new ECW fold and the talent being re-introduced to WWE storylines. The FBI would be a nice edition to SmackDown!, Jazz and Shelly can help the Women's Division, Test would patch a few holes on SmackDown!, Mike Knox has more chance of being accepted and CM Punk vs. John Cena is a feud I would pay to see.

When I am more interested in seeing something fail than seeing it success, it is not out of the shitter yet.

I think ECW's new "sports entertainent extension" will help it in the long run. Sabu, Tommy Dreamer and The Sandman will hopefully keep the hardcore ECW fans interested, and if they basically let the talent do what they want wrestling-wise, it may work out. Of course they aren't going to let them go flat-out, but just be a little more relaxed. Specifically with guys like Sabu, Tony Mamaluke and Little Guido.

The new ECW is like Heat. But it's better than Smackdown (something with the exception of Tonight that I have barely seen all year).
