View Full Version : Is MMA more popular then Boxing?

I'm thinking it might be, I mean, everyone is talking about it lately even on sports radio and I have'nt heard any Boxing talk whatsoever.

I bet 75% of the people don't even know who the Heavyweight Champion in Boxing is.

I'll admit, I am one of them.

I'd say with the 18-26 year old age group it is, so eventually as that group gets older it'll overtake boxing.

And to answer your question I dunno who the heavyweight champ in boxing is, is it one of the Kiltcho or whatever brothers?

Boxing fans don't even care about heavyweight boxing for fucks sake, i like MMA more than heavyweight boxing! Still prefer boxing overall though

WHY??

Boxing is to MMA what SuperSlim is to Anybody Thrilla..

I don't like the grappling much tbh, its even slower than heavyweight boxing:p

I thoroughly enjoy both, and i don't think they're particularly comparable. Put most top MMA fighters in a boxing ring and a top boxer would have them down in a few rounds, ditto put a top boxer in a MMA cage and a top MMA guy would have him tapping in no time, completely different disciplines.

I also love K1 when its on, except when they have those stupid 7ft gallutes in it who are practically dead on their feet after 10 seconds

Couple of devastating powerbambs.. Also, LOL @ the guy who keeps trying to fight after the ref calls it (around minute three)..

MMA is cool IMO because of the different styles of fighting each person employs, it makes for some interesting match-ups.

Boxing I find rather...blah, because they punch each other in the face for a few seconds, hug for a few minutes, and repeat until someone punches too hard and there is a knockout.

You seriously need to stop watching heavyweight and start watching featherweight boxing, so much more action!

But i agree with you on the different styles and stuff in MMA, it is interesting from that point of view

Who the hell is the Heavyweight Champion

ct2k
07-13-2006, 07:02 AM
There are about like...20 Heavyweight champions, the 4 legitimate (in the losest sense of the word) are Wlad Kiltschko (IBF), Hasim Rahman (WBC), Nikolai Valuev (WBA) and some Belarussian guy is the WBO champ, not exactly the most impressive of lists.

Why is Bob Sapp not in the UFC? I see heavyweight champ all over him.

Mind you, most of the fights in that clip he was beating up little shits.

Also he's got little to know skill in anything other than striking, he's not quick or agile enough to avoid getting taken down so he'd have to learn some techniques before doing proper MMA

How big is he?

Kris P Lettus

6'5" 350lbs

He would have done well in UFC back in the day, before weight restrictions.. Back when more than half the guys were huge gullutes who just swung for the fences..

Not now..

I wish UFC would change the weight restrictions a little bit or even have some cool promotional matchups where someone like Matt Hughes could fight Chuck Liddel right now.

Those are money matches. You only do them once out of 10 PPV's or something.

It'd be awesome to see how Royce Gracie would have done against him, when Gracie was in his prime. I mean Gracie did make Dan Sevren tap, but then again Sapp is like 100lbs biggern the Sevren. I think is Gracie could survive the first two minutes, he could easily choke out that guy.

Bob Sapp's style looks like a retard that's just been told he got a girl pregnent from kissing her. Just a complete retard flaling style, which is so unpredictable it could result in a lucky knock out.

I dunno..

Sapps been beaten by many but if he landed that one good blow, who knows..

That's like saying Gracie would choke out Tyson..

The first UFC Match I watched I seen a guy named Tank Abbott knock someone out with one punch. I like Matt Hughes alot that lid is awesome. And maybe I should watch featherweight....

That is Gracie's ears too close to Tysons mouth, I doubt he would risk it

MMA fighters are better fighters in general, boxers tend to be better strikers in gereral, MMA fighters find a fay to win, they are more well rounded.

ct2k
08-23-2006, 01:09 PM
MMA fighters are rarely particularly good strikers in comparison to Boxers, the ones who are primarily strikers seem to either knock a guy out in quick time or get taken to school on the mat.

The Mask
08-23-2006, 01:21 PM
well yeah, no-one is going to punch as strongly as a boxer, but then in MMA it would be suicide to try and throw punches like a boxer would anyway cause you're open for being took down or having your knees kicked off.

I think the grappling and submission stuff is the most important in MMA...That and a good chin obviously

The Mask
08-23-2006, 01:29 PM
definitely. a good anti-grapple like cro-cop can work wonders too. the most important thing is to be a russian terminator like fedor though, that guy is fucking ridiculous.

So has there been a high profile fight fixing in the UFC or any major fighting promotion. We all know Boxing has had tainted fights. There's bound to be one in MMA if it hasn't happened already.

ct2k
09-02-2006, 04:16 PM
Not sure about that yknow its a good question Stickman. I'd say this, if there's been a MMA tournament in Germany, you can garauntee the decisions were dodgy!

Also, Amir Khan in action in not too long tonight:y: And Clinton Woods the pride of the north, hope he can rough up Glen Johnson, hopefully then Joe Calzaghe will stop being a pussy and take him on.
