View Full Version : So SNME bombed...

Based on Nielsen's fast national numbers, NBC's Saturday Night's Main Event bombed in the ratings yet again, only scoring a 2.65 rating. Not the final rating of course, but a total disaster for WWE. It's not hard to figure, in my opinion. The show felt like just another episode of Raw, with a slight taste of Smackdown and ECW. Its amazing, WWE has three separate brands and the SNME show came off like another edition of Monday night entertainment.

The lack of promotion on the Smackdown side (I know they couldn't, but still) is probably a factor, but how many people were hyped for SNME?

I actually almost forgot it was coming on, but remembered just before I went out and set a VCR for it. I'm always hyped for new wrestling, but nothing on the card really stood out as spectacular, and I wasn't expecting a fantastic show.

Saturday night is just an awful time slot, anyway.

I ONLY remembered because I saw it on here. So I taped it too. I was busy playing Hitman.

Meh. A friend had just rented it. It was last night or have nothing to do. I chose the lesser of two evils. :p

I was at work. Forgot it was even on. Oh well.

I shall give a couple reasons why I think SNME did bad again in the ratings

1. terrible promotion esepically this past one. I kept forgetting about it, and yes the card was nothing great.

2. Also over exposure like we see these matches every week on TV so it wasn't must see TV so to speak. So people would have much rather gone out and had a good time then watch SNME.

Its too bad the last two bombed, as WWE was really given a chance to get back into the mainstream, I don't see NBC giving them another special anytime soon, maybe another SNME right before Wrestlemania next year, but thats about it.

If the WWE can't put on a decent show with the talent they have at their disposal, they don't deserve to have mainstream exposure.

RAAAGH!

I thought it was a DECENT show, just nothing to get really hyped for.

It wasn't THAT great. It was sort of watered down. I had the choice of watching this or Smackdown. I also like how NBC is trying to draw away the wrestling audience this fall for their new show Heroes on mondays.

I'll make it simple:

All of this is the result of hiring ass-kissing writers who don't have any backgrounds in wrestling.

It's sad, but I don't think the WWE can make consistently compelling programming even if they tried now. :(

I remembered SNME was on, both times. Didn't care enough to watch it either time.

I thought it was a DECENT show, just nothing to get really hyped for.

Which is too bad, since that's what it's supposed to be. A special, not normal programming. Hell, PPVs are like that too.

PPVS usually strike me as "just" TV. Sure, I'd watch it for free, but why pay?

I think this time the lack of SmackDown matches was to be expected (they DO have the Bash coming up just a week after that aired, so this time there was an excuse for that), but why no ECW? THAT would've been VERY good to see. THAT there was NO excuse.

Agreed. I usually only watch PPVs at Hooter's anymore. Sure I pay for dinner, but I would've eaten dinner somewhere anyway.

The only difference between PPVs and Raw anymore is basically the length of the actual matches.

Kane Knight

Yeah, I've caught a couple PPVs recently at friends' houses or the like (I'd go to a bar or something, but they don't play 'em around here). Not something I'd go out of my way for if I wasn't watching for free...

...And they wonder why the programming doesn't sell.

The fuck? I didn't even KNOW they were holding a SNME until J.R. mentioned it in passing on a recent RAW. I never even know which Saturday it was on, so I missed it entirely.

Like seriously, they never said "Attention! SNME will be held once again! This time on July ___! Tune in to NBC!" No. Instead, they mentioned it like we were already supposed to know about it. Idiots.

Kane Knight

They've been mentioning it for weeks.

JUST like that (Like we should already know), but it's nothing partciularly new).

I watched it, but didn't thouroughly enjoy it. I didn't hate it though. I was just pretty "meh" about the whole show. It's supposed to be a special. It's supposed to be like a free ppv, but all it felt like was if Raw and Smackdown had a regular joint show where wrestlers wrestled guys in their respective brand.

I'm sorry, I mean superstars entertained superstars in their respective brand.

I don't know. I was letdown. That DX match was horribly anticlimactic. The 6 Man tag was Meh. The ME was a copout. This is the kind of programming I could see turning a new viewer off entirely.

That DX match was horribly anticlimactic.

The best part of the match was when three Spirit Squad members fell onto each other very sexually. It's pretty bad when that's the highlight of the main event on SNME.

I forgot about SNME entirely and tuned in by accident half way through the DX match. I was a little pissed that I forgot about it and had missed the first hour of the show. But by the end, I was pissed that I accidently tuned in and saw the last hour of the show. :nono:

Agreed, that was the highlight of the show, from what I saw. You know, there's nothing like making your champion look like a total wuss douchebag on NBC. Total R-rated depantsing.

DUUURP! You'd think I'd remember that. The show was just so meh that I forgot about the actual main event.

Also originally I thought the DX vs Spirit Squad match was the main event. Then it was brought to my attention that there was an hour more of show left.

All the shows are "just another show". The PPV's feel just like the TV shows. I haven't watched a PPV in years because they dont' feel special anymore. Any special they have is just another show. SNME is nothing worth watching.

On the info, each hour was listed separate, so maybe that threw you off. I guess DX/SS was the main event of the first hour.

This is sorta obvious, but it's because they ARE "just" TV. When you have like 14 or 15 PPV's a year, they become commonplace.

This one's for Victoria. :'(

On the flipside, the more I think about it....any show that results in Mark Henry being out of action gets an A++++++++ in my book. (Not that I wish injury upon anyone, but ain't karma a bitch?)

They could still manage to make them special, they just don't.

I'm not saying they'd have the same bang as when there were less than half that a year, but they really could make them better than "just TV"

I didn't forget about it, jsut set my DVR to record it. I saw the DX match before I went out, it was meh. Came home, read the results and the thread here and figured it wasn't worth watching so I deleted it from the DVR.
