View Full Version : Batista's Open Challange

Mark Henry is already apparently in Birmingham, AL to see Dr. James Andrews today regarding the injury he suffered at Saturday Night's Main Event.

During today's Great American Bash press conference, Batista confirmed that with Mark Henry's knee injury from Saturday Night's Main Event, that match won't be happening. Thus, Batista has issued an open challenge for the PPV.

-Wrestlezone.com

Apparently since Mark Henry's injury Batista is issuing an open challange. Hopefully, he didn't say "I'll take on anyone from any ring four sided, six sided or eight sided" which seems to be the new cliche when it comes to open challanges. Recently there has been a great deal of open challanges.

Well hopefully this news will be an excuse to get someone good from Raw over to Smackdown to fatten up there roster. I would like it to be Carlito or someone, but that seems unlikley seeing how they're both Faces. The best thing they could do is make Shelton Benjamin take the open challange and push Batista to the limit. On Smackdown Benjamin would be a main event superstar which would be cool because he could feud with Mysterio, Booker T, Batista, Chris Benoit, and possibly The Undertaker.

Odds are however the open challange will just be some jackass that is already on Smackdown, or someone from ECW or Raw that just come over for one night only which would just be a complete joke. Perhaps this is Benoit's reason to come back, but even so that wouldn't be all that intresting.

Shelton would be a good choice. I agree that he could, and should, push Batista to the limit. Make it a good back and fourth match. Batista still has some ring rust to get over, and Shelton is a good choice to make Batista (and himself) look good.

What I don't want is for someone to accept Batista's challenge and completely job out to him.

It'd really be funny seeing Batista getting knocked out by a guy 3 inches shorter and 110 pounds less then himself.

God I hope he doesn't say the old anyone from any ring thing. Being beaten by King Booker already threatens his credibility as a legit tough guy. Being anihilated by a 6'1" 205lb Chuck Liddell would immediately crush his career...But boy, I would pay to see that fight. BATISTA vs. LIDDELL

I think if they were smart, maybe do an Orton/Batista match, maybe have a Hogan run in, that way gets Batista on card, gets Orton over as the cocky heel while not losing any steam, adds to hype for Hogan/Orton at SS.

Could easily go with this since already have a history. Just hope they don't just waste it on a squash

Eh I think he could last a minute or so with someone in the Welterweight Division... Unless it's St. Pierre or Hughes in which case, he's pretty much get his ass kicked.

Why do I have a feeling that it's gonna be Kane coming to SmackDown to face him?

I just have a very strong feeling that it's going to be Kane. Would make the most sense, because that's one of them that they said the WWE wanted to move over there.

Shelton Benjamin ran through my mind as well. They seem to want to push Shelton, but there's nothing really for him on RAW. Showing up on SmackDown! and hanging with Batista would be interesting.

I can see Chris Benoit coming back for a match. I doubt he would defeat Batista, but Rey Mysterio vs. Chris Benoit at Summerslam for the World Championship? It's a nice thought. I could see both Mysterio and Benoit losing, which leads to a #1 Contender's Match at Summerslam, which Benoit wins due to interference from Chavo Guerrero.

It will likely be someone from ECW, though. Big Show ran through my mind, but I think they would have just promoted that right from the get go, just to get ECW viewers buying as well. If it is someone from ECW, I would suggest Fertig (seriously). The two are familiar with one another from their Disciples of Synn days in OVW, so they could work a decent match together. No doubt Batista would go over, but Fertig looks better for lasting with Batista than he would winning a three-minute squash on ECW TV. The Brood's old entrance should be used, just for the chills. Have Shelly Martinez (are they calling her Arial now?) with him, and have JBL mention their past. I say JBL, because he can play up the fact that he's a former OVW Southern Tag Team Champion.

That likely won't happen, though.

Kane or Umaga seem like the likely RAW bets. Kane should beat Batista. The guy needs a reward for doing so well with See No Evil. Have King Booker cost Batista the match, so Batista destroys King Booker, which leads to Rey Mysterio vs. Kane vs. King Booker vs. Batista at Summerslam. Hell, throw in two other guys and make it an Elimination Chamber. Umaga is the more realistic choice, with Batista probably defeating Umaga. The guy shouldn't be past mid-card at this stage, anyway.
