--WWE had a live one hour press conference carried today on The Score to officially announce Raw moving from TSN on 8/7. The big surprise is that Raw will never air live, as it's going from 10 p.m. to 12:05 a.m., on a one hour tape delay. It will also have a replay at 12:35 a.m. However, The Score promised that Raw will never be pre-empted. There were a lot of snide comments made regarding TSN's preemptions of Raw for curling and hockey by the wrestlers there (didn't hear who said what but Edge, Trish Stratus, Ric Flair and Shane McMahon were all there, and Shane praised TSN for the many year relationship, but he was the only one). They also announced, but did not give a date, that Smackdown would be moving from Thursday to Friday, airing at 8 p.m. with a midnight replay. This goes into effect on 8/11. This is the same backward step in the U.S. that has badly hurt the show on UPN. The Score has picked up Thursday NBA programming for this season so the move was not a surprise. The Score is also going to add a one hour WWE weekly analysis show in prime time on Sunday nights, but the time slot was not announced.

Hmm... not having Raw live will upset me a little. I just hope the Score doesn't edit a crap lod of shit out. If it's definitely 10:00 - 12:05 we'll be losing 5 - 10 minutes.

Moving Smackdown to Fridays is a really bad idea. There's a good chance I'll only be able to watch it sometimes.

I also hate that damn ticker. You don't notice after a few minutes, but it gets in the way.

The reason behind the 10pm slot btw is this:

"The 10 o'clock time slot was an issue for us because we actually have horse racing on until 10 o'clock at night now," explained Errington. "We don't want to pre-empt that. Horse racing is a lot of CanCon [Canadian content] for us. We couldn't replace CanCon with foreign. It's really a CRTC-regulated CanCon versus foreign issue. We'd prefer to have it at 9 o'clock."

ECW has a canadian TV deal. From Observer:

WWE just announced that ECW will premiere on Global Television Network in Canada in a Friday night at 11 p.m. time slot, as well as Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at 4 a.m.

Global airs a lot of NBC programming and as far as exposure goes, is multiple times as strong a station as The Score which will be airing Raw and Smackdown.

As part of the deal, WWE also has gotten Quebec broadcast clearance for Raw and Smackdown. Raw will air on CKMI, a network affiliate station, starting in August at midnights on Monday. Smackdown will be airing on CJNT in Quebec on Fridays at 12:30 a.m.
