If you had to introduce someone to wrestling, what one match and one promo (doesn't have to be related) would you choose?

I'd say something like TLC 1 or 2. Most new fans would go nuts over the spots, and eventually they could be introduced the the more finely tuned wrestling as time goes on.
Because let's face it, we didn't all come into wrestling to watch the technical stuff; we were drawn by the characters, angles and gimmick matches and then our tastes evolved as we became more familiar with the product.
In terms of promo, I'd have someone sit down and watch Jericho's WWE debut. I still think it was one of the biggest 'mark out' moments of the last 10 years, and anyone can relate to Rock and Jericho's banter without being a wrestling fan (and therefore understanding the significance of his appearance).

I'd try to show them recent stuff. Just so they don't say "So what? This stuff you're showing me is old? The current stuff is still crap though".
So for promo...
I'd show them some of Mick Foley's recent promos. Or perhaps one of Eddie's from his feud with Rey.
For match... Maybe HBK vs. Shelton Benjamin from Raw awhile back. The first opne between them, not the second.

I would probably use something crazy and full of high spots. Regardless of how "fake" wrestling is, stuff like that is amazing to see. I can't really thinkof a match at the moment, but something like the TLC Matches, or more recently, the Money in the Bank Ladder Matches. Hell, a lot of people would probably laugh at me for this, but Billy Kidman vs. Paul London from No Mercy 2004 was a near perfect match, in my opinion. Pretty decent crowd reaction, great psychology, excellent story, some nice high spots.
So yeah, the match would be Billy Kidman vs. Paul London from No Mercy 2004, although a Vengeance 2004 tag team match with The World's Greatest Tag Team vs. Rey Mysterio & Billy Kidman isn't bad, either.
The promo would probably be something from Chris Jericho or funny Kurt Angle. Jericho has that aura about him, and he seems more "with it" than most other wrestlers. Angle's just hilarious when he needs to be. Some of his stuff with John Cena is "LMAO!" quality. The one where Kurt Angle makes the remark "Well, looks like I've found someone whiter than me" would probably be it.
So yeah:

Promo: Kurt Angle and John Cena from SmackDown!

I mean, I've never figured out why the WWE doesn't actual use cruiserweights in more prominent roles. I agree that pushing them as the top guys seems stupid (see Rey Mysterio), but it is the stuff they pull off that seems more "real" than the stuff that the other guys pull off.
Seriously, what do you think is going to get someone into wrestling who has the thorough belief that it is fake; two guys who move around so quickly and do such things that you think "they must have done some serious training to be able to pull that shit off" or two 300+lbs guys who slug it out, clearly not hitting each other, making the same audience think "damn, this shit is so fake"?
Maybe this is blind markdom, but I honestly believe that Paul London could draw more than The Undertaker. Just think about it for a little bit. The Undertaker does stuff that a lot of people can just brush off as "Pfft, anyone can do that", whilst Paul London pulls off all this springy stuff which can make people think "Holy shit!". Am I wrong for thinking that?

If you really want to show somebody a Flair Promo, I would show the one where Edge took his Mugshot and had someone voice over his picture. I laughed forever.

Okay, how about this question...
Which part of which book would you introduce them to?
I'd introduce someone to the prolouge of Walking A Golden Mile simply because it shows someone at his lowest, or the part of To Be The Man where Ric Flair's ghost writer talks about when Hogan whipped the shit out of his son. Some things are planned, but it shows that it's not all fame and glory.

If you're going to do anything with those three teams, do the Triple Threat Ladder match at Mania 2000. Now there's something that'll draw people in and make 'em watch.
As for promos...Anything with Jericho. He is truely the man.

If you take a step back out of smarkism, and look at the bigger picture from a layperson POV, it does seem strange that the more talented guys aren't pushed. But then we remember that Vince has a hard-on for man boobs and biceps

Agreed. I actually like that match better than any of the TLC matches (BLASPHEMOUS!). In this one, the idea of those three teams using all those weapons seemed FRESH and INNOVATIVE (sorry, couldn't resist). In the TLC matches, it started to look more like a game of "Can You Top This?" with everyone trying to come up with a more insane stunt than the one they pulled the last time.
But the first time those six guys went at it, it was damned amazing.
match: daniels vs styles vs joe....1st one

Match: torn between what kind of match to be exact. If it's to show what Wrestling as Entertainment is all about (Ready Flames), Triple H vs. Batista-WM XXI
What the ART of Wrestling is all about: Bret Hart vs. Mr. Perfect Summerslam '91 (I think that's the year it was. I think everyone knows the one I mean. Not their best match, but it was the best match of Summerslam, and one of the best matches in PPV history.)
promo: CM Punks "This is STRAIGHT-EDGE promo" on Raven from ROH. (up there with Cane Dewey as far as Intensity and Emotion. Although both follow Micheal Hayes' rule of promos: The Heel must believe he is right, regardless of how out there his words or actions are.)
Cane Dewey as well or...
Edge's "Is that it...?" promo, where he more or less single-handedly saves the Edge/Matt Hardy storyline.

I would show them better stuff, but as soon as they watch what's on now a days they would ask why it sucks bad. At least this way should they ever happen to accidentally watch wrestling again they will think it has improved and stick around to see this new and better product....then once they realise today's shit sucks I go back and show them good stuff.
Yeah, I rock.

Match: Balls Mahoney vs Masato Tanaka - Hardcore Heaven 2000
Promo: Something with The Rock. No sense in showing an intense promo with a ton a references to someone who wouldn't have a clue what they were talking about.
Match: Samoa Joe vs. Christopher Daniels vs. AJ Styles - Unbreakable 05 -
I actually did show this match to a non-wrestling fan, and he was totally into it for the duration. He even commented "this isn't the same shit they have on WWF, right?" "Not even close."
Promo: The Rock Concert 1
Fucking brilliance there.
