I need suggestions. My 80 gig hard drive is almost full, and I want to format it to get rid of all of the garbage. Should I get an external hard drive, a CD-R and about 80 CDs, or some other method? I think that getting an external hard drive would be the most reasonable way, but I can't find anything affordable: I'm unemployed. What's the cheapest external hard drive that can hold at least sixty gigs?

why not another internal harddrive?
I picked up a 120 gig 7200 rpm drive for 130 bucks canadian money.
and holy shit @ 60 gigs of music. I got around 8 gigs and I thought that was more then i'd ever use.

why not just burn them cd-rw's or something. a ten pack or so could probably hold close to what you need and then you could re-use it for something else later on.

Really depends if all you need this external harddrive for, is for a short time.
If you only need it to hold the MP3's, format your exsisting HDD, then transfer the MP3s back over.
Then what you could do, is buy the external hdd from a shop that has a really good return policy. Ask them about it before you buy the external drive. Get the drive, do the transfering, then return the drive for a full refund.
Its a little sneaky...all depends on how moral you are about that type of stuff :p

I have about 100 bucks to my name until I decide to beg my parents again. I'm trying to save as much money I can without actually getting a job.
Also, how would 10 CD-RWs hold 60 gigabytes? I've never seen a CD that can hold 6 gigs. Is this a new creation I should be aware of or just faulty math?

Buy another internal harddrive. That's what I did. I got a 60GB for like $60, I think, from Best Buy.

You could burn the music to some blank DVD's (have a much bigger capacity than CD-R's)

Pretty sure they each only hold like 800 MBs.
Mighta changed in the few years that I have bought any though.

Ignoring the fact he doesn't have a DVD burner...
Probably better off getting another internal hard drive. The ultimate expensive option is buying 2 iPods to store the stuff on. :o

The cheapest hard drive there is 70 bucks. How much is the cheapest computer on the market? My computer blows, and I'm thinking of just getting a job and getting a new one.
You looking for a bundled package (tower + moniter) or just the tower?
Bundled you could probably find a decent one for like $650 - $700
Just the tower probably around $400 or something :-\

dont buy a pre packaged system.
Set a price in mind, then buy each part according to your price.

If I do that, I'll want the best possible everything. Once I get a job, I'll do that.
PS - I won't be employed any time soon.

Do this. You'll be able to afford a decent one in 2 months, provided you don't blow money on other stuff.
