Do you like music because of the lyrics or the sound of the instruments? Lyrics can ruin an awesome song yet a song can be made by the lyrics. I suppose in my opinion the lyrics are important, but all the violent sick lyrics dont' appeal to me they're just there. For instance, Marylin Manson, Eminem, Slipknot have sick lyrics but the song is good.

I don't think lyrics matters as much as the way they're sung.

I'm pretty split. I love good lyrical songs, mainly because Ryan Adams is my favorite artist of all-time, and he is, IMO, the best songwriter of his generation. So there's that, but I like bands like Underoath, whose lyrics you can't understand, but the music itself makes it great. As for rap/hip hop, I'm all about the beat and the hooks. I could really care less what they say, partly because it's usually dumb, and partly because I can't understand that either.

I can understand it when it's not filled with made up words that end in -izzle and slang to describe sexual activities. I would argue a difference between ebonics and rap lyrics. It doesn't prevent me from liking some rap. I mean, I like some of Busta Rhymes's stuff, and you can't understand a word he says. But a good beat is all that matters. There is a reason dorks like Scott Storch are getting paid ridiculous amounts of money to produce beats, they're just as, if not more, important to the music than the lyrics.

the music is what really matters
they could be just talking jibberish and it could still be a good song
