View Full Version : Let's talk about Kevin Thorn.

I've only seen him wrestle twice, but I like him a lot. The gimmick isn't new, but it doesn't seem very familiar. That 'stunner' thing he does with the opponent's feet on the ropes is SICK (especially the way Guido sold it). His valet is hot in a creepy way. I can see him being a big time player. What do you think?
P.S. - I didn't watch SmackDOWN! during the time of Mordecai. Is that him?
Kane Knight

I think it's ironic that the game guys who were balking at the Zombie (The announce team) are creaming themselves over how Thorn is all ECW.

Yeah I like the character, I'm not sure which I prefer out of this and Mordecai. But seeing as this is his character now, I'll roll with it. I agree that he seems like hes going to be a big time player, he seems to have all the right tools. It's just getting the right gimmick. I think this could very well be it, but then again everybody said that about the Mordecai character.
But until being proven otherwise by the gimmick failing, you can count me in on the Kevin Thorn bandwagon.

Well, the Zombie was intended as farce and showed no in-ring ability. Thorn actually appears imposing and has a viscious moveset.

But even so, he's still a fucking vampire. Gimmicks weren't what ECW was about at all. They were kinda being hypocritical, but that doesn't mean he can't still be awesome.
Anybody Thrilla
08-09-2006, 06:02 PM
How'd they describe it? ECW is a place for outcasts or something? That may be kinda true, but it was never a place for the supernatural. To their credit though, at least they say he's into the vampire life style instead of trying to sell him as an ACTUAL vampire.

I like him. I like his valet more, but then again...Daffney is my favorite "Diva" of all time.
Do you think we eventually could see a "Flock" of sorts consisting of bite victims?

That's a pretty good idea. It'd be a good way to get more guys TV time simultaneously too, since they've only got an hour. I just hope Shannon Moore doesn't join him.

I was thinking the same thing and I agree anyone but Shannon! If you want to go with a Brood/Flock type thing, I think Joey Mercury would be a good addition once he's out of rehab...and dare I say...Jeff Hardy?

I do think there is a lot they can do with the character, it could be an interesting social comment type of deal, the same way Raven was, although obviously there will obviously not be as much depth. Still, a nice change, and hopefully it isn't going to be just a total cartoon.

They're not saying he's a Vampire. They're saying he follows Vampirism. Two totally different things. It's that whole underground scene thing. I'd mark out if Kevin Thorn ran in during The Great Khali and Undertaker's Last Man Standing Match and knocked them both down for the ten count.
Kevin Fertig is a pretty talented big man, and he's great with characters like this. The only reason Mordecai flopped was because of his lame-ass brawl with Hardcore Holly. No disprespect to Holly, but he should have taken a squash loss to Mordecai.

They could even mock Sports Entertainment in the process. I mean, they used to have a superhero team. A couple, actually, considering Molly, then later Rosey....

If he did, we would have the words "Gangrel is a part of White Wolf" down our throats everytime the WWE made reference to their copyrights.
But yeah, I like this Kevin Thorn (this is alot better than the shitty Mordecai, even though that was booked VERY wrong). I have a liking for vamps myself, so this is worth the price. And yeah, I would bang Ariel (and bite her ALOT if she wanted to) the second I had the opportunity.

They signed the wrestler, and he was rumoured to show up in support of Fertig, possibly as part of a stable. That doesn't mean he has to be called "Gangrel" anymore than Fertig had to be called "Mordecai."

Wassis? A gimmicked wrestler in ECW getting a good reception from smarks?
Nah, its all good. Ferig looks like he can carry himself in the ring and, as WWKD has already said, he's not a vampire as such so its not nearly a cringe-worthy. All it needs now is a bit of Heyman spin and realism and we'll have a star on our hands.

Do you see where I'm going with this?
As I said, the Zombie was intended as farce. While Styles and Taz mocked the Zombie as a contender and a fool, the Zombie's tru purpose was to poke fun at the Scifi BoD that were begging for a science fiction tone to the show. Thorn, OTOH, is in shape, has an imposing presence, and actually looks like a contender. Hence, referring to him as wrestling material.
Do I need to write the same thing in a longer paragraph? Or "do you see where I'm going with this"?

You can keep repeating that it was a farce, but that's understood. What you don't seem to understand is that explaining that doesn't make it any less ironic, the point is only really ironic because of that.
So you can repeat it again if you want, but all you're really proving is that the answer to "do you see where I'm going with this?" Was no.

You see, this is part of what makes it ironic.
They play up one gimmicky character as a farce, and play up another as having a home. They take a string of these guys and mock them for having no place in eCW. Then they have Fertig debut in a gimmick that's not only similar to one they've already used (albeit less retarded), but in a similar fashion to the stuff they've already labeled as not belonging.
It's not ironic because it ignores the intent behind the characters. It's ironic because the intent is to now push a concept which you had similarly devalued over a series of weeks. I guess my trouble is that I don't see what irony has to do with anything here, Whiteness notwithstanding. I just kinda get the vibe that you don't get what I'm saying.
Zombie was intended as a joke, and made to be cartoonish and lame.
Thorn is admittedly "villain"-like, in a pseudo-howo style, but is based on an actual -- thought fairly uncommon -- lifestyle.
Both ideas are based in the scifi catgory, but are about as related as Scooby-Doo and Stephen King.
