I hate wrestling games where it looks like there's an invisible wrestler that the guys are trying to nail with punches and the like.
It looks ok

I don't know...It looks pretty good to me. There wasn't a damn cut scene after Jareet pinned Angle in the 2nd video..which is a plus. Also, the gameplay and animations seem to be drastically smoother than that of SmackDown! vs Raw. I can see myself picking this one up.

If you want to see some new vids head over to YouTube and looked up "TNA Impact Game." Then sort by "date added."
So far the best moment for me was seeing Hernandez give Black Machismo the Border Toss. He tossed him clean out of the ring. Hopefully there will be breakable tables in the game.

It looks alot less 'stiff' than the smackdown series. And moves look alot more fluid. Just like Disturbed said though, I hope that all the finishers don't go right into pins. That would be annoying

Well, good luck with your shitted up SVR where they continually take away even the most trivial stuff. Ooo, create a move, yeah, THAT's going to save it.
Not saying Impact will be better (it won't be, I'm confident it will be shit in fact) but SvR is terrible and has been for a while now.

It's times like this that I must say: Fire Pro.
That goes without saying, though.
Don't know about anyone else, but I'd rather have literally hundreds of moves, most of which not in SvR, and a very deep yet simple customization system, than be able to add a taunt onto a move or string two moves together, or take three hours to make a half-assed appearance when it takes less than 10 (usually) to get a great looking CAW.

So has anything been said about match types, other than the Ultimate X?
Not really other match types. There were rumors of KoTM, but they turned up to be untrue. No Six Sides of Steel either.
So let's get this sorted...
Only CAW's in Season
Small roster
Very little match types
No brawling outside of the ring area
No custom soundtracks
Probably no alternate attires either
Oh and Mike Tenay as a playable character

08-06-2008, 01:57 AM
WTF? So I just watched a random video on IGN... It was the Steiner video... Now I was a little confused that the Recliner starts as a standing move (He punches them and knocks them down as part of the move.) but the submission seems to use the exact set up for a pin... Like, it actually counted to three.... what the hell?
Destor
08-06-2008, 02:14 AM
Yeah, by the looks of it you've got to escape submission the same way you escape pins. Which I guess could keep the pace of the matches up which could be nice...dunno. (The crowd chanting one two three for them is ridiculous though.)

Then again, I reckon DoR2 has one of the best story modes in wrestling games, so I'm not complaining.
The storyline looks stupid as hell. So I guess they're striving for realism.
Also, loading screens between each entrance? What kind of bullshit is that?

The more i'm playing this shit the more I hate it, there supose to have 8 grapple but every way I try I only found the way to do 4-5 moves, your move change depends if your to the left or right of your opponent, everybody do the same move, in Quebec they change West and Tenay for french commentary that are even worse, I got to read the manual in english cause I don't even understand the translation they made of it.
This shit is only good to wait for smackdown!!!!!

I got the PS2 version, and there's a lot missing.
There is NO online.
There is NO CAW. When you play story mode you can pick your new name and that's about it. Suicide is just given a new full body costume, which is a pretty cool costume but it doesn't make up for anything. Your finishing move consists of you spinning around your opponent twice, before ending up in a power bomb position, then doing what I guess would be called a sunset flip bomb to finish the move.
The graphics aren't nearly as good as the PS3 and XBox 360 installations. Of course, I was expecting that. But let me put it this way, it's nowhere near as good as Smackdown: Know Your Role (Smackdown 3) either.
There are plenty of glitches. The game froze once, and in one match my opponent ended up stuck inside of the ring. Only his chest and head were visible. Luckily he did find his way out and I got to finish the match.
Almost half the characters are locked, and almost everyone I unlocked so far absolutely sucks. Examples... Demonic DJ, Lenny, Benny, and Mr. Suplex or something like that.
As a "video game" it's not HORRIBLE, but as a wrestling game it's a very big disappointment.
I did get a free TNA DVD though, cause I pre-ordered.
Overall, this game is enough to make God say His own name in vain; and I'm not sure I'll ever be the same.

Got it earlier and its....ok. Controls take a while getting used to, but get there eventually.
Story mode is pretty funny, but only because of how kayfabe and mark-ish it is. Currently on the tag team part and keep losing to LAX, which is both frustrating and gay.
Ultimate X is a pretty decent mode, but the way you have to get X down is very annoying.
Overall I'd agree with Gamespot review. A fair amount of things they need to improve on, but no way as bad as it could have turned out to be.

I finished storymode and it grew on me. They made Jeff Jarret as cheap as fucking Shao Khan from MK for the last fight, but whatever.
If they can improve this for a sequel (EG no spam attacking someone on the ground, signature moves and not just finishers (hell, even getting some peoples finishers right, no Lethal Combination for Jay :(), better CAW, more match modes and better online) they could be onto a winner.
Smackdown needs to take a few things from this game. Notably, each move has a proper reversal, not some lame punch before they hit the move, and reversals acan be reversed. Letting people twat people out of mid-air is brilliant (dropkicking someone going for a cross-body is so fun) and apron moves.
All-in-all, it's probably the best "first-in-a-series" American wrestling game bar WCW Vs. nWo World Tour.

LoL, I completed story mode last night and was treated to commentary by the developers during the credits. The developers basically brag the game up to the point you can't help but laugh. One of them even said they feel like they blew the competition away, while another one claimed that they proved all of their critics wrong with the finished product.
I don't know whether to laugh at them or feel sorry for them. What this does tell me is that they are not listening to what wrestling fans want in a wrestling game, because if they had there is no way they would have been so confident with the finished product.
Another funny tidbit on the PS2 version... You can unlock all of the "Jobber" characters that you face in story mode. I checked out the bio for all of them last night and they ALL share the Cradle Shock for their finisher. LoL, they couldn't mix it up a little?
I was somewhat pleased with "AJ Styles X" and "Chris Sabin X" which are basically both characters with their looks from back in 2003 - 2005.

I think story mode is actually pretty decent, but in a "B Movie" kind of way rather than a wrestling storyline kind of way.

I've also come to the conclusion that my favorite TNA game to date is WWE Smackdown: Shut Your Mouth.
I should sell this on EBay. I sold Iron Man for $2 less than I bought it for. I can put the money toward the pre-purchase of either Ghostbusters or Spiderman: Web of Shadows.

I don't know yet. Smackdown has an alarming habit of dropping the ball more often than not recently.
Even if Smackdown completely sucks I can't see it being anywhere near as bad as TNA Impact. Now that I've beaten season mode it has absolutely no replay value whatsoever. The only thing that gives me any satisfaction in the game at all is hitting the cool springboard moves.
If you notice, the kicks and punches are very similar to the old WWF games "Wrestlemania: the Arcade Game" and "In Your House." The lunge kick (Strong kick from a distance) and the ground stomps / punches are almost exactly the same as in that game. This game is basically just Pit Fighter with a few wrestling moves and throws thrown in for fun.
Every time I think of this game I feel like the "Angry Nintendo Nerd" from Cinemasscare.com.
The thing about Smackdown is that even if it's a horrible wrestling game, at least it's a WRESTLING game. I was looking forward to playing as AJ Styles so I could hit the Pele out of nowhere, surprise an opponent with the moonsault inverted DDT, hit the Spiral Tap for a pin fall... I get NONE of that. The only move that is in there that I mentioned is the inverted DDT, but every high flyer has the move so it doesn't feel exclusive.
Then, you beat the game and they are BRAGGING about the game in the credits. "Boy, we sure showed our critics wrong." WHAT!? Out of the kindness of my own heart I gave these guys a chance, and now I'm not sure if I'll ever do anything nice for anyone again. :'(

The only confidence I had in this game at all was the fact that Samoa Joe and AJ Styles, who claim to be gamers, were involved in the developmental process. I find it hard to believe that even they approved of this game, specially considering the competition.
I do have to disagree with you as far as TNA deserving a game like this. Some of the current storylines are about as appealing as a soiled diaper, but TNA did give us some great matches and great memories.
When I saw the Triple Threat match between AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, and Christopher Daniels I imagined what it would be like to play a game and have a match like that.
This game COULD have worked with a few very slight, but very important moderations.
For example, if they implemented both special moves and distinguishing styles we could have the feel of playing as each character. When I fight Samoa Joe I want to feel the danger of being submitted. When I fight Abyss I want to be in for the fight of my life. When I fight AJ Styles I want to have to be ready for surprise aerial attacks. This game is missing all of that.
Usually I'd put my hope in the next game, but since it's probably being developed by Midway as well I've lost all faith. They seem to have come to the conclusion that they can compete with Smackdown vs Raw, which is laughable at this point.

Just got this in the post yesterday, so I thought I'd post some feedback.
The CAW is horribly basic. Smackdowns 'paint on clothes' etc has annoyed me to no end, but in comparison I'll take SD anyday.
The story mode is far to linear, no options, a goofy story, and a CAW only option isn't a great result.
But as for the main exibition mode? I don't mind it. Its different, and Ultimate X is fun.
All in all I'm going to finish story mode to unlock the characters and have some fun in exibition. But I personally see me trading this in pretty soon, and possibly getting COD or Batman.

Every time I read something like this... I can't stop thinking of the video during the credits of the PS2 version where Midway brags up the game and claims they will give Smackdown a run for their money. Wow.
