Add this to a list of his failure. He and Jericho should have a competition.

Depends on how you define success, really. I think he'll do good for himself as a novelty atraction.

Success: will he have a winning or loosing record?

He wont draw that much, hes been out of the limelight for too long, plus he wasnt that big of a star anyways.
He will get owned, maybe get a few nice hits in, but ultimatly will lose due to lack of experience.
he goes 0-5
Then quits until a year from now he tries boxing.

Nope. Try being cut before the season started.
I remembered when he came onto the field they played his enterance theme and people were just....quiet.

I think he is going to do very well. First off, he is a former NCAA champion. As far as takedowns are concerned he's going to do very well for himself. I've seen video's of him compete and he's amazing. Then there is the fact that he is being trained by Royce Gracie. So Once he gets the guy on the ground hes going to kinow how to end it.
I guess it all depends on how well his jiu-jitsu training goes. If he can successfully integrate Gracies training into his already phenomenal wretling and takedown skills, I think he will be a monster.

God damn stupid asfkighkj sig button.
Lesnar is a competitive beast.
Obviously he's no good when it comes to team sports, but he's proven time and again that when it comes to singles competition, he can kick ass with the very best of them.
As a former NCAA champion, a fucking beast of a human being, and with Royce Gracie as his trainer, I'm very, very excited to see what he can do in the world of REAL fighting.

Lesnar nearly got kicked out of NCAA for being too aggressive. What was a hindrance in college might give him a huge edge.

He has ALL the right cards. Time will tell if he can put them together and become something HUGE. Brock could really lead this little verbal war (and I use this term loosely) between UFC and WWE into a whole new direction. Makes for an interesting story, gonna love to see this play out a year or two down the road.
Kane Knight
09-06-2006, 09:35 PM
I think what really matters is how well he sticks to it. He hasn't exactly had a hsitory of that. Otherwise, he's got what it takes.
Destor
09-06-2006, 09:38 PM
Correct me if I'm wrong, but that only been in Pro-Wrestling right? I think its the lack of real competition that leaves him... un-inspired. Given the opportunity to compete I don't think you are going to have that issue to the degree, if at all, that you have in his Pro-wrestling career.
Plus there's a lot of down time for him.

Pro Wrestling, football...
He was cut, but if he was really interested in football, he would have stuck it out somewhere else. There are other leagues, but he refused. Out and out. He falls short, he goes somewhere else.

I don't really see football as being the same. He was cut from the team in pre-season. I wouldn't keep at it either. But he must have met his dates in College, but I'm sure he was on a scholarship, so there were heavy consequences there. Dunno, I think this will be different. I still have a little faith in him. After this though...

I dunno. He fell pretty damn short at WrestleMania XIX, but he still hung around.

I personally think he will get his ass handed to him.
Lesnar is a huge guy, and he knows how to take a guy down and how to keep him down. If it comes to that, Lesnar could do some damage. Most guys would know this, though. They'd know all about Lesnar's grappling abilities, and try and turn it into a striking match. You can't go into a sport like MMA so publicised and expect people to be ignorant to your abilities.
Lesnar's also taken some pretty sick bumps in the ring. His body would have been worn down from life on the road. That Shooting Star Press gone wrong at WrestleMania XIX could come back to haunt him if someone gets his neck.
Lesnar is one badass motherfucker, but there are other badass motherfuckers out there, a lot of them who are probably better than Lesnar. The guy doesn't know where his lines are, and he will likely step over them.
I hope he does fail, so that we can see him in the WWE, again.

As far as his success goes I'm gonna take a stab and guess amatuer wrestling is a totally different ballgame than mixed martial arts. Now Undertaker I'd like to see take a crack at it.

I want to know what would make Taker more qualified than Brock.
Especially with Gracie in Brock's corner.

Brock is gonna be a monster in MMA. If he can get to 265lbs and get into the UFC, he'll be the biggest star in MMA history.

Nah.
Pat Miletich already said in a year he is gonna be unbeatable. And that's a bold statement coming from a former UFC champ who currently trains with Matt Hughes and Tim Sylvia.
As long as they feed him the right guys early, it's gonna be a matter of time before it's Brock vs. Fedor.
What Would Kevin Do?
09-07-2006, 09:59 AM
They're going to have to protect him for awhile. They can only feed him the right guys for so long though.
It could happen, but I really don't think it will Even with Gracie training him, it's going to take time. Inexperience will hurt him.

It could.
They are assuming Lesnar will be a draw. Meaning he may be put into big fight situations with people better than him quicker than other guys of his experience.
I mean, let's say misc fighter A who know one knows has the same experience, or lack their of as Brock. Who is going to get picked to be in a big fight? The guy no one knows, or the guy who has name recognition.
They won't feed him to thewolves, but I have a feeling Brock will be put in a match he's not ready for down the road, and it will show, and show bad.
We'll soon see about his opponents. I have a strong feeling you are wrong though. Everything I have heard so far makes me believe Brock Lesnar is about reading to fuck up some people and make a name for himself in the MMA world.
Do you forget his level of real wrestling ability? I think Mark Coleman is the only heavyweight out there with something resembling it.

Not that I doubt the striking power of lesnar, but not everyone top tier fighter has had the total package. I believe lesner will but its not necessary.

Lesnar could potentially beat people with wrestling, a la Rashad Evans def. Stephan Bonnar. It would not be entertaining, but it would work for a while, unless a striker like Cro Cop or the Iceman gets lucky and lands clean once or twice.

As a guy who broke into MMA as a am. wrestler, I really really want to see Brock do well. He has all the physical tools in the worlds and with the right intensity (which I think he has), and a couple of matches under his belt, Brock will rock the MMA world.
Yes, Brock should be a legimate monster in MMA. But I would hate to see him get destroyed, or worse, be a big ass pussy like Bob Sapp's sorry ass.
Bob Sapp a pussy? You on drugs dude?
This man was taking fights against people he had no business fighting and was winning. And then he took fights against even more people he had no business fighting and did it with ZERO training. They ruined in him Japan by over working him with every fucking piece of media work known to mankind. If he had time to train, he would have been a killer.
Brock is getting time to train.

I'm not worried about his wrestling ability, I'm worried about his striking ability.
Exactly what I was thinking. Even if he is learning GJJ from Royce, he needs to work on striking as well. What would he do against someone with an awesome take down defense?
With that aside, I do think he will do pretty well for himself. Like it has already been said, he just needs to get the proper training and not rush in to anything.

Gracie's a vet. I somehow doubt he's stupid enough to neglect striking.

You guys act like you're pro MMA scouts. You say Brock has no striking skills, you say people with good take down defense will stop him. I'm no pro MMA scout, but lets look at this for a minute.
Striking.
You think he doesn't know who to throw a punch?- Why?
You think he can't learn or be taught it- Why?
Take Down Defense
Brock's size is all he needs to push through someone's takedown defense. Disagree? - Why?
Think a much bigger Matt Hughes simply picking someone up.
I predict, like Rob and others, that Brock could become the biggest thing in the MMA sport.

Anyone can learn to throw a punch. Knowing how to punch is different than being a good striker. Likewise, knowing how to throw a punch doesn't mean you're good at defending against them... Same thing with kicks, knees, etc.
Likewise, with take down ability/defense. Yeah, he can take people down, but if it's all he does, people will watch for that shit. If he goes to take someone down and gets a hard knee to the face, or gets caught in a good facelock, he could be in trouble.
Lesnar has the size, he has the wrestling ability, and he has the attitude... I just dont' know if he has the patience. I'm not saying it's impossible for him to do well, i'm just saying I think they are going to blow their load on him too early, give him a big fight too quick, he might fuck up due to experience, and then suddenly, he may not be the hot shit that he was when he was killing lower guys.

I know for a fact he is doing intensive stand up training and has been for weeks. The word is he knows his wrestling is the nuts so he needs to learn everything else first.

No need to train in take downs anyway. He should already have that down pat.
